The new record is another step in David’s evolution toward an adult-oriented singer-songwriter sound, and I think he’s on the right track.

  1. Thanks for the links, MJ! Heading over to Amazon thru your link right now!!

  2. Either it had a ton of pre-orders, or people are really fast with their ordering fingers, because it’s already up to #30 on itunes :)

  3. lol yeah the preorders went through.

Btw, banner ad on the main music page.
Yeah his album is at 30 and 42 on the main chart. 6 and 9 on pop.

  4. I hope the album does well! I just got my copy on itunes and i love the bonus track! I’ve got a few ppl to gift thru Amazon as well. I’m loving the promo of the album!

  5. I don’t know what number are David fans expecting his album to sell first week, but after almost one full day of sale and his album is only #30 on Itunes and #245 on Amazon – these rankings do not seem to indicate a high sale volume.

But with all the TV appearances in the next few days, his sales may pick up and the album will probably move to higher positions on Itunes & Amazon, of course there are always sales of hard copies from Walmart etc which is an unknown, so he may end up selling well.

  6. The album hasn’t had one full day of sale. It was just released about an hour ago.

  7. lol… one full day… lol…

A lot of people already got their hard copy preorders from the OS(got mine on friday). Especially the fan pack, where its the only place to get it.

I’m not expecting high sales though. Because he doesnt have anything on radio and there hasnt been much promo yet for it. Some commercials started a few days ago on teen nick and i think vh1/mtv?

Also, he’s got two in the top 50 not all that far apart. The other new releases I think just have one(or at least the main releases) in the top 200.

  8. Yup, its only the first hour of October 5…….and charting #30 overall; #s 6 and 9 under Pop……is dang good.

  9. Hopefully, the banner ads will convince some people to buy who didn’t know that David had a cd out.

  10. Are there any special/bonus versions like Walmart, Itunes, etc? Just want to make sure if I should buy at a certain place..

  11. LOL.. that is funny. It’s only been like 2 hours or something of the release. The official site shipped out orders a couple of days early, but those sales won’t be known until next week.

ANYWAY! I don’t care about the sales number to the point where I’ll be depressed or anything. David has a great fanbase and his concerts are amazing! This will be a great week of promo in Archieville and that’s all I’m looking forward to. This album is a GIANT LEAP towards David’s musical future and that’s pretty exciting in itself!

I thoroughly enjoyed his first album and xmas album and now TOSOD.. and can’t wait for his spanish album. LOL

  12. Trina.. iTunes has a bonus Day After Tomorrow..and it’s awesome in my opinion.. There will be a bonus track on a Japanese release in November I think. I was hoping for more bonus tracks.. but I’ll take what I can get. :)

  13. Is that right Kris? bummer.. I thought they did that w/ Waiting for Yesterday, Falling, etc on the last album but then sold the Deluxe at a later time w/ all the original bonus tracks? I can’t remember.

  14. oh btw, on Oct 5th at 4pm he has a chat and performance on z100

Somebody Out There was the pre-order track last time. The deluxe had a few bonus tracks on itunes as well last time. Works For Me was the walmart exclusive track.

This time there was a pre-order bonus track and deluxe has an interview/behind the scenes vids.

  15. Waiting for Yesterday, Falling, and Let Me Go were on the Deluxe Edition. Somebody Out There was the pre-order bonus track. This time around Jive decided to do videos instead of bonus tracks. It would’ve been better to do bonus tracks instead because it seems like a lot of people have decided to buy the regular edition instead of the deluxe because of the lack of bonus songs.

  16. Yay for David!!! My fan edition came in the mail last week and I’ve been listening to it nonstop!!

  17. I love the behind the scenes stuff, but yeah.. I would have loved another 2 bonus tracks or so. I’m greedy w/ David tunes. He did say that he wrote like 50 songs this past year. I’m sure there were a couple of keepers in there!

On the promo note.. I can’t wait for the @jambajim elevator bit.. the z100 chat and the billboard interview.. and of course the talk shows.. and I wonder what will happen w/ the jr high/high school promos. Will be interesting and I’m glad the industry is supporting David’s talent.

  18. well we’ll see if the promo moves it higher. because it’s been stuck at #30 on iTunes for 2 hours now. I’m used to seeing more movement the first few hours when Idols have albums drop. But I’m sure after he does the Today show and some of the other promo, there will be some sort of movement.

  19. Buying the album and hoping for a single to take off! David’s future is bright! Whatever the sales are, he is a rising star that cannot be stopped.

  20. I’m used to seeing more movement the first few hours when Idols have albums drop.

It depends which album you are looking at, whether it is a first album, it is supported by a single with substantial radio play, it is from Kelly/Carrie/Daughtry or neither of the above. In this case, for now it is only the core fanbase that’s going to buy and it would be surprising if a lot of movement was going to happen until the promo/single kicks in.

  21. I’m just now downloading the itunes album that wasn’t available when I went to bed last night (had to have the extra song and I’m very excited to hear it!) Nice to think pre-orders were healthy despite a lack of airplay. I’ve also got my TV station on MTV because I’ve heard that Jim and David did a 30 second spot to be aired. It’s 5:30 a.m. Oh yeah, the stanning continues. :)

  22. omgosh… David’s TOSOD is #5 Overall on itunes and #1 POP this morning!!

  23. I’d say this is pretty good for 6.5 hours since it’s been on Itunes! :)

    5. The Other Side of Down (Deluxe Version) – David Archuleta

    18. The Other Side of Down – David Archuleta

    number 1 on Itunes pop… as of 6:25 a.m.

David worked hard on this cd, and I am really hoping he starts getting the respect he deserves. I’ll take the “real deal” over a manufactured “wanna be” with a swagga coach! lol Keeping it real though, just hope he gets some respectable sales numbers, and some new fans along the way. Radio airplay would be a bonus, but not worried about that anymore, just gonna enjoy my cd, without having to listen to the junk on top 40!

  24. Archie is doing great on the charts considering that he has no hit single yet and not much promo until recently. This is very impressive. Way to go. He is just 19 and has a huge career a head of him.

  25. Archie should have no problem beating Bruno in sales. I just went to download Bruno’s album and there are only 4 songs on there that I didn’t have already, and the rest are just different versions or videos of JTWYA and The Other Side. I am sure other Bruno fans will do the same- just buy singles.

  26. Japanese bonus track of David Archuleta’s #OtherSideOfDown is “Nothing Else Better To Do”! Thanks @INTSonyMusicJP for confirmation!

Huge #othersideofdown panel at TowerRecord Shibuya Tokyo saying “Teen charismatic idol saves the World!” ha? lol http://bit.ly/ansPqU

    From the japanese fans^^

I hope you’re right but I would not count out Bruno yet. He’s a monster on Top 40 right now. He and Toby Keith are still my guess as finishing first and second next week among new releases. In the past, Justin Bieber, Jonas Brothers and Taylor Swift have all released multiple songs before their albums came out but this did not stop their albums from opening big. Anyways, being number 5 overall with 2 years after his first pop album, with no radio hit and no TV appearances is pretty impressive.

  28. I probably spoke too soon, as Bruno just inched ahead of him to take #5-but Bruno will have alot of Itunes sales, and idols always do well with physical CD’s. Suppose we have to wait till next week to find out :)

  29. He doesn’t need to beat Bruno Mars. Bruno has a huge hit right now, and has appeared on 2 big smashes this summer.

Archie just needs to make a decent showing. His label knows that this is going to be hardcore fanbase driven.

He’s doing well so far. Go Archie!

  30. No way is Archie going to sell more albums than Bruno Mars. Archie has very little radio support. Hopefully his fan base will give a decent opening week. So far he’s off to a good start. I think 40-50K would be a very good opening week for an album w/o a hit song.

The usual formula for even successful Idols is that each successive album sells about 1/2 the total of the previous one. So if Archie can move about 350K albums total, he’s fine. It doesn’t look like Jive loaded the album up with expensive producers, etc.

  31. I would be happy with that number. Actually anything over 30k is good, cause i wasnt expecting much lol

  32. I think 65-75K would be a very good opening week for an album w/o a hit song.

That would be incredible! Albums with hit songs get that these days. LOL! That’s what I would have expected if SBL had charted.

I think it will be 25-30K myself. 40K tops.

  33. I don’t have high expectations for David’s sales because of the lack of radio play and promo. What is most important to me is that David was able to make the album that he wanted to make.

  34. I corrected that number but you’re right. I forgot what sales are like in 2010. I think 40K sounds about right. I think Archie will do better than 25K but without any radio support and not that much promo, it’s hard to estimate.

It was nice to read the Daily News review of Archie’s album.

  35. No way is Archie going to sell more albums than Bruno Mars. Archie has very little radio support.

I don’t know, Bruno’s album doesn’t have much more than the EP already had, I expect them to be bought as singles. Does anyone know the opening numbers for his EP? The Posner/Cruz/Derulo crowd hasn’t shown that they can move albums even with hit singles. I do think Bruno Mars is more talented than those three, too bad he resorted to drug use. HIs album is good. Are there any hdd predictions or articles predicting Bruno yet?

Archie has a built in fanbase who does buy albums, it could be closer than expected. I would say 40-45k debut.

  36. Yea, I have no idea how many EPs Bruno sold. I didn’t think it was that much, but I could be quite wrong. Hmm.

Bruno will do way better than Posner/Derulo/Cruz though. He’s nowhere near as disposable.

HDD predictions don’t come out until Friday, I think. Maybe late Thursday?

  37. Well good luck to Archie. I have no idea about his sales, so total guess 37.5 K. Just why not?

One thing, I had to decide about those boots, and I’ve decided that I really hate them, and they’re distracting to me. Like it’s all I can see when I look at that picture, are those ugly, ugly shoes.

  38. I love David’s album. The AOL livestream was great but the actual sound on the cd playing in my car was an experience. His voice sounds crisp, rich, smooth in all the songs. The Other Side of Down is doing beyond good so far.

One thing, I had to decide about those boots, and I’ve decided that I really hate them, and they’re distracting to me. Like it’s all I can see when I look at that picture, are those ugly, ugly shoes.

LOL, this truly displays that all is a matter of individual like, I looooove those boots. They look great to me, perfect.

  39. I don’t think those shoes are that ugly.. lol I do think that it’s a good choice using a bigger shoe as opposed to his usual sneakers for that pic. It makes the pic look balanced.. supported for someone tipping back in a chair. lol ..I don’t know.. I’m just babbling!

Cool MTV snippets! Very thoughtful and sweet Archie shines thru.

  40. David has a resepctable showing after 11hours (?) on iTunes. I’d like for him to stay in the top 10 albums so he can remain visible this week.

  41. ^^^
’bout the boots (lol) I love it, looks hip and cool to me!

I heard Elevator is release to HotAC, probably explains why there is no add on CHR since word came out that it’ll be the second single. Anyway, I hope Jive will release Falling Stars to Top 40 radio soon. I can see it hit like Bruno’s Just The Way You Are. Beautiful song, great production.

I’m not expecting much for first week sales for this album. There is just nothing out there to represent the album to casual buyers. But I am optimistic once Falling Stars hit the airwaves, this album will explode, in a good way lol.

  42. interesting that of the songs on the album that are on the iTunes chart right now, none of them are Elevator

    #355 – Falling Stars
#805 – My Kind of Perfect
#860 – The Other Side of Down
    #889 – SBL

  43. I love “Things are gonna get better”. The first time I heard it on the Jerry Lewis telethon I thought it was corny. It still is a bit corny but it really is a very beautiful and inspirational song with a very positive message. Not really a Top 40 song but I actually think that the message of the song is very relevant to younger fans who may not have the benefit of life experience in dealing with difficulties they may view as insurmountable.

  44. #2 and #6 on pop albums and not to bad overall with no radio play. Mars is played every half hour on all stations is at #3, interesting.

  45. I am so happy for David. The album is so good. I love so many songs on the album. So many videos of Archie online to catch up with. It’s a great day for a fan like me. Congrats to David on another amazing album!

  46. I remember that Danny Gokey’s album was #1 on itunes album chart and sold 65,000 copies in first week.

  47. #2 and #6 on pop albums and not to bad overall with no radio play. Mars is played every half hour on all stations is at #3, interesting.

Wouldn’t a better measure be where the album sits on the overall chart?

  48. Wouldn’t a better measure be where the album sits on the overall chart?

Probably, but I was making an observation. David doesn’t get all the promo, radio play, pimping that some other singers do. It’s been sitting at #9 in overall albums this evening, it looks like the album is doing pretty good in spite of….IMO.

  49. “Wouldn’t a better measure be where the album sits on the overall chart?”

I think #9 on the overall chart is pretty decent. Competing against well known country artists, rappers and freakin’ Mraz! I’d say that’s pretty good being #9. I just hope it stays that way all week. :)

BTW: that Mraz EP is awesome!

  50. David is not concerned with becoming rich and/or famous. This does not bode well for a long term relationship with a major record label. I think there are 2-3 songs on his new CD that have top 40 potential, but he will get zero radio play. Program directors just don’t like his music and, unfortunately, Elevator as the second single release is not going to change a thing. Songs like Elevator just don’t resonate with the masses. It’s nice that David has gotten the opportunity to record his music, regardless of big sales numbers, he got the opportunity to put his music out. He will probably sell 100-150k, hopefully he will learn that there is a commercial side to the business that must be attended to. David has a terrific voice, which has been mostly wasted on the music he has released to date, and he is one of the kindest persons on the planet. I’d really like to see this kid succeed.

  51. He will probably sell 100-150k, hopefully he will learn that there is a commercial side to the business that must be attended to.

I think that David will do much better than 100-150K. He managed to sell 211,000 of his Christmas album in a year with a huge Christmas album — Andrea Bocelli’s “My Christmas” which sold over 5 million copies.

David has a terrific voice, which has been mostly wasted on the music he has released to date, and he is one of the kindest persons on the planet.

But I agree with you on this — he deserves better songs!!
