Katy Perry’s upcoming concert in Manila, Philippines has been postponed due to the Southeast Asian nation’s recent tragedy. The show was moved to a later October date and was reformatted as a charity event instead with “American Idol” finalist David Archuleta.

According to local showbiz correspondent Tim Yap on his Twitter page, the MTV Philippines Live event, scheduled to take place on October 3 at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds, has now been tentatively rescheduled to October 17.

@iamtimyap twittered:

David Archuleta is pretty much confirmed. As I tweeted, only Katy Perry’s sched is pending-let’s hope her sched allows/opens up for this

Plans seem tentative for now. I’ll post updates as soon as they are available

I am only now getting to watch the news (at my sister’s house) and so many people in other areas are apparently still in evacuation centers or trapped on their rooftops and houses (where floodwater has not yet receded) and have been without food and water for days. Help is still badly needed and I would really appreciate it if you could help spread the word. Thank you,

  3. I was really touched when I heard about this. I hope it pushes through.

  4. hoping katy perry confirms, and that this relief concert can proceed… what an awesome gesture of support from david and these organizers… really hoping this thing takes off, and gets the type of awareness and international support needed to assist the victims of this typhoon… get well david, you have work to do in the philippines!

  5. Aw, that’s fabulous. Archie has a really strong fanbase there as well, so it’ll be awesome just from a comfort/morale boost. This kid is just awesome — not to mention talented.

  6. this is the kind of guy i will support for life….a man with a golden voice and a golden heart!!!

i really pray that this charity event will pushes through so they can raise enough money to support the victims of the typhoon ondoy.filipino archies have been tweeting this to david and he responded to them…what a blessing to have david at times of crisis like this….hope and pray that david is feeling a lot better by that time!!!

    go david!go Philippine Archu-pelago!

    thanks mj!

  7. hi pj,

i sent my donation thru paypal….and i got a confirmation from them that they will transfer the funds to national philippine red cross….i’m really glad!thanks for the updates!!!

  8. i hope it happens as well even thought i dont like katy perry it be great for our philipinino people.

  9. OK, so this brought a tear to my hardened eye. Well both my eyes actually. It’s not just that David is going there, it’s about how much they love Idol, I’ve seen proof. It’s about somebody taking a bunch of time to post all the links for help.

I just really hope that they will be ready for this concert when it happens. I guess it’s a rescheduled one, so tickets should have already been paid for, but what if your ticket washed away in one of those horrific rivers that decided to take over your life.

In any event, I love Archie. He’s so very caring. I have a difficult time thinking that they would reschedule on a day when Katy wasn’t available. The diversion will be great. We all need that on occasion.

  10. Oh I hope it goes thru as well as it would generate help to those who need it oh so much. Pretty sure by all the tweets the folks there are very excited if it does happen too! Great idea!

  11. If this is true, thank you David for helping the people of our country. You have a golden heart and I cannot wait to catch you in concert again :)

  12. To be honest… I don’t want David to go here… just because I don’t think I would be able to go… :| although If I were be able to go… and if possible, meet him personally then GO!!! I wasted my chance last time :( I was so close to meeting him (long story) so sad…

Also… I just want to say THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! For those who have donated/prayed for the Philippines… we really need all the help we can get! :)

although I’m kinda contradicting myself by saying that we need all the help we can get and then not wanting David to go here…

again THANK YOU VERY MUCH! Please continue to pray for our country!!! :)

  13. Good going Archie. I’m so proud of you. My heart goes out to the Philippines and I hope that this concert is a great success.

  14. Hope the concert happens, and I too really feel for all who are suffering loss in the Philippines.

  15. Hopefully Katy Perrry will respond soon, so they can get the concert plans going and get the aide to the people in need. So glad David’s schedule was clear so he could support this worthy cause for charity and help the unfortunate victims.

  16. How does he do all this traveling and still work on an album? How many days will he lose going there and back? 4?

Nonetheless, it does sound like a great thing for DA to do.

  17. well he was traveling and stuff on the first album and the xmas album.. he hasnt sat still in one place for very long since idol. Cept for now he’s had some time.

  18. Yup, frogcooke, I don’t think it’s about his traveling. It’s a long flight but he’s young and strong. I seriously think they won’t swine flu quarantine him again. I think that’s the least of their worries at this point. In fact, I think they’ve learned that our idols are too awesome to have swine flu (you can quote me or not as you see fit). Anyhow, I’d much rather him delay his next album for a week in order to help out this huge need. I happen to think he’d agree with me.

  19. How does he do all this traveling and still work on an album? How many days will he lose going there and back? 4?

sometimes it takes a disaster or crisis like this to put all the frou frou we engage in at times into crystal clear perspective….. this is a concert, for a cause that really matters… making up lost studio time seems to pale in significance stacked up against helping the people decimated by this typhoon get the food, clothing, shelter they need, and boosting the morale of many after enduring such a horrific event. this is one thing i admire about david – he ”walks” his talk of care and compassion for others… two things that will never be out of vogue, or uncool …

  20. AMEN GG!

and this is why we love our david…he is simply the BEST!

GO DAVID ARCHULETA!!!!THE WORLD LOVES YOU!

  21. Thank you, David, and thank you, Katy Perry.

From @MTVphilprog) – Response re: Katy Perry
@maeleneee Yes, it’s true. We are preparing a bigger show with Katy and other artists. Stay tuned for our announcement coming very soon.

  22. “To be honest’ ¦ I don’t want David to go here’ ¦ just because I don’t think I would be able to go”‘ ¦
    ——————————————-

You don’t want David to go there cause you can not go?
    How selfish

  23. Bless your heart David., this why we love you. always supporting good causes, supporting your friends and other people but I don’t see you promoting yourself. So selfless. Many success in your endeavor.

  24. Has Katy confirmed it yet? Hope it works out fine. Timing is right for David before he finishes tour with Demi and starts Christmas album tour. Good going for Katy and David.

BTW, I just want to share a comment made by someone I happened to find in an article on examiner.com concerning Katy and David concert.

David, I had lost hope in the world. And specially in young people. I laid in my bed for six months, unable to move cause of severe depression I was seriously thinking some crazy alternatives. Then I rolled over on my remote by mistake. It switch to American idol and you were singing “imagine”. I have followed your career ever since. My life has improved 120%. I will probably never meet you in person, but I want to thank you from the bottom of my heart…. I’m going to stop now cause computer is getting all wet with my tears and I’m in public and somebody just ask me if I was ok. I told them they were tears of joy…. Sincerely your 55 y/o ex depressed man. tnx tnx tnx

Tears were flowing down on my face when I read this. David doesn’t know how inspirational he is by just being who he is. On his next blog, I am sure he would say he is excited to go to Philippines again and to be a part of helping hands for the people there.

  25. ^^ Oh, ghl, that was such a beautiful story! I’ve heard many stories like that. It’s very touching. I really hope the concert comes to fruition for the sake of the victims of the flooding.

If for some reason Katy Perry won’t be able to make it, hopefully they can find someone else to take her place. Heck, David could headline that concert on his own and still draw in a huge crowd. They absolutely LOVE him down there! He’s always been at the top of their charts.

  26. this is my soul brother #1 takin’ care of the folks. nice story. hope it goes off w/out a hitch.

  27. Well said gg! IF this is all true, what a great thing to do for a terrible thing that happened!

  28. Whoa, David could bring Charice on stage and they could do they’re duet. The crowd would go nuts.

This is a great thing they are putting on. A big morale boost for sure. Philippines hang in there, I’m praying for you and the Samoan Islands as well.

  29. I hope and pray this gets confirmed! David has lots of fans there and they showed the Davids their love when they did a concert there.
David A has also done a Jingle concert with Katy Perry last year.
Thoguhts and prayers go to all affected by these horribe storms.floods etc. Also am so touched by the man who found inspiration by accidentally bumping the remote to turn Idol on when David was singing Imagine. I’ve read many inspirational stories on this journey and so hope this benifit concert will added to that journey.
I’m thinking postive that this charity will lift the pain of those suffering.

  30. Wonderful thing, hope it happens for David A and Katy Perry going. My thoughts are with those in the Phillipines at this time, I wish them the best going forward and thanks for the links for being able to contribute!

  31. PJ – Thanks for the donation links! I wasn’t sure where to go to help, and this helps a lot.

  32. You’re all welcome. Purps sent them to me, so I thought it would be a good thing to post it here. Also, I donated a small sum to the Philippine National Red Cross directly. I figure they are on the front lines helping.

    Again, Kudos to Archie! :-)

  33. Thank you sooo much guys!! thanks MJ for posting this….this is the worst to hit Manila, we are doing whatever we can to recover from this, my cousin’s home got washed out by the flood, but she’s thankful her family is intact. The storm ended with tragic results so it is really a nice idea to have Archie perform for charity.

God bless Archie for doing the charity, and esp. to you guys, everyone in this blog who donated and prayed for us here in Manila.

  34. OMG. Archie is such a great guy! I live in the Phils. and what he and the other artists (if others are collaborating) will do will indeed touch the hearts of us Filipinos. How much do you think the tickets cost?

  35. Thank you, mj and pj (especially for posting the links to help), and to everyone who donated (mhel)/will donate to the cause and who are praying for us. This is indeed a great tragedy and we could use and appreciate all the aid we can get.

To the folks who were concerned/asked about me, thank you. The first floor of our house (where we actually stay) was submerged and almost everything got soaked in floodwater but I and my family are safe…when the water was already neck-deep, we stopped trying to save stuff and went up to the detached second floor of our house. It was a scary, uncomfortable day and night for us, but we certainly didn’t have it as bad as the others did, for which we are grateful (and a little bit guilty). We just hope that this new super (Category 4 to 5) typhoon (Pepeng) that is said to be also upon us changes its course to where it cannot hurt anyone.

(Archie is a good kid. Bless his heart.)

  36. I just donated too.

I think any amount will go a long way. So skip a coffee or two and send the money instead!
