  1. Danny’s album is currently ranked #3 on the overall album chart on Itunes and #2 on the country albums chart. That is fantastic. :)

  2. Jx223: That’s good news. I sincerely mean that. I’m a crazy Adam fan, but I wish the best for Danny. I’m probably repeating myself, so sorry for that. I hope Danny does well. He deserves it.

  3. Congrats to Danny. It seems like he’s been working on his album for quite some time but it really hasn’t been that long at all since he was officially signed.

I will be buying this for sure and looking forward to hearing him on Idol.

  4. Danny has a great voice and a lot of charisma! I screamed for him almost as much as I did for Adam during the AI concert. I really enjoyed Danny’s performances this summer.

  5. mj – just a clarification: the Opry appearance is a week from Saturday, March 13th. (per Opry.com)

  6. I am so proud of Danny and everything he has a achieved. My Best Days is a great showcase for his voice and talent. It will definitely more than satisfy his fans and bring in new fans. This is his moment.

I am really looking forward to Danny’s comeback performance on AI Season 9 this Thurs.

  7. Congratulations to Danny for creating this amazing CD for all of us to enjoy!!!

  8. dishwalla, good way to describe Danny’s performance as comeback. I hope he does an upbeat song to celebrate his successes after the ups and downs of his Idol journey.

  9. Danny has a great voice and a lot of charisma!

iluvai; just wait until you see him now singing his own songs-he has an actual glow about him- and make sure and ask for a hug. He gives the tightest (he is all muscle, lol) most sincere hugs and you can tell he means it. Sigh, I do sound like a giddy fangirl. But many others can attest to the magic powers of a Danny hug <3

  10. I know digital sales are a very minor portion of album sales; but it is still very sweet seeing Danny sitting at #3 overall; above Sade.

I hope the AI performance helps his sales; because he has had no other national PR for his album release; only the little local TV morning news clips.

Go Gokey! You deserve some success; your album is great.

  11. Good job Danny! It’s nice for him that his opening price is a sale price on itunes!

  12. Danny just hit #1 on the country iTunes album chart.

Still #3 overall; topped by Lighthouse and DeRulo.

Not sure how long it’ll last buy already people are tweeting him about fulfilling his streaking promise, lol.

  13. That is totally unexpected, but good for Danny!

Some of us may not be as surprised as others, lol :)

WMZQ in DC posted pictures from Danny’s CD launch appearance at a Best Buy store in northern Virginia. Gives a nice feel of the fairly large and somewhat diverse crowd that came out. There were a lot of young people there, and families, as well as some more err, my age, and some senior citizens as well.

  14. I am not a country music fan but I am a Danny fan so I downloaded the CD from iTunes. He was my favorite last season up until Top 4 week and I am really happy for him getting to put out an album. The music isn’t really hard country or whatever they call it so I am enjoying it since I really like Danny’s voice. I wish him the best.

  15. Wow. All those nights of summer tour when I was the only one, or one of 2 or 3 at most on here. I thought about this. And now here it is. Who knows how it will all play out in the long run. But this is a nice moment.

  16. Josie, it surely is amazing what 10 or 20 fans can do for a performer. Lol.

  17. I know Steph. I’m all verklempt! I almost forgot to keep voting. ;)

  18. Congratulations Danny! I think he is getting awesome treatment by his record label and everyone on his team. Wishing him the best of luck.

  19. I got my copy. So proud of Danny. Still have to listen to some but like what I heard so far. Am skipping around, I really like The Coach alot, I Still Believe, and I will Not Say Goodbye.

  20. I am so happy for Danny. I am really enjoying listening to the CD. Like the bonus song The Coach – listening to it reminds me of Simon. Congrats to Danny and special congrats to his fans – both old and the new ones.

  21. Congratulations on #1 in Country itunes and #3 overall! That’s great, especially since competition for sales is so fierce. I think Danny will a good career. Good for him.

  22. I am listening to Danny’s album for the first time and I love it. So pleased to hear he is doing well on Itunes. He has been working extremely hard and I am very happy for him and for his fans. Can’t wait for his performance on AI Thursday.

  23. This is exciting!! It’s great to see fans of others coming on here and giving props to Danny as well. Thanks!! Just checked itunes…he’s holding steady at #3 overall; #1 on country. WHOO HOO!! Can’t wait for Thursday to see him perform. I do believe he is performing his upbeat single, My Best Days Are Ahead of Me…for whoever asked. :D

  24. Am listening to Tiny Life right now really really beautiful.

  25. I just downloaded and am listening to the songs for the first time – had only listened to snippets before. It really is a good album and I am proud of Danny for staying true to himself. There are so many good songs – I can’t decide which ones I like the best.

Glad to hear his album is doing well on Itunes and can’t wait for his performance on AI on Thursday.

Congrats to Danny and his fans.

  26. *

Am listening to Tiny Life right now really really beautiful.

I love Tiny Life also. It was written by Jeffrey Steele- author of “What Hurts the Most”. But I think my favorite is “Crazy Not To”. I love fun, sexy Danny (kind of like Come Rain or Shine), and his voice is just so good and the tune is so catchy; it makes me curl my toes!
Because of the stage in life he is at, I think he is more angsty on some songs, so I look forward to more songs like this one- LOVE songs!
Its funny how so many have different favorites; I think that is the mark of a great album- it speaks to everyone in different ways.
I do love IWNSGB too (the one he has gotten the most ‘technical’ praise for) but its sad- I love the sweet “Crazy” the most!

  27. If Danny has already hit #1 on the ITunes Country Chart and #3 overall, I can only imagine what’s going to happen when he appears on Idol this Thurs. Because up to this point, the promotion for Danny has been more grass root – as opposed to any big, splashy national promotion. I certainly applaud the great support he has gotten from 19E and RCA Nashville.

  28. congrats to danny on such a strong showing on the itunes country and overall charts… it’s a jungle out there in the music business, and if he’s able to carve himself out a solid niche in it, and find success at the end of the day – good for him! enjoy the day gokey fans, it’s always fun watching the album go up and up :)

  29. Good for Danny! I hope he has great album sales this week. After his idol appearance, I will bet he will do quite well this week. Congrats to him and his fans. I am a huge Adam fan and not into country at all but I am hoping for Danny to have success on his sales this week. Any estimates on them from anyone?

  30. I am a huge Adam fan and not into country at all but I am hoping for Danny to have success on his sales this week. Any estimates on them from anyone?

Actually, a lot of Adam fans (as evidenced by their remarks on Twitter) are liking the album. Its definitely not too country- probably the main criticism it will get from country critics.

I am hoping he sells 40k and will debut into the top 5 country albums on Billboard; that would make me happy. Digital sales aren’t that important so I am not overconfident just because he has a good showing on iTunes. The competition is not that stiff there right now either (no Susan Boyle, lol!)

  31. I am looking forward to seeing Danny on Idol on Thursday. I think he is going to have a great week and definitely deserves it with his talent.

  32. I am hoping for Danny to have success on his sales this week. Any estimates on them from anyone?

Since I read an opinion at this site a while back that Danny only had 10 or 20 fans who were interested in what he was doing, I’m gonna consider any sales of more than 21 copies a raving success ;)

But in all seriousness, no idea. I hope he does well relative to where the market is, which doesn’t seem to be that high overall lately. He did have quite a nice turnout when I went to the CD launch event in DC last night, hopefully that is a good sign a fair number of people will be interested to pick up the physical CD in stores once they realize it’s there.

  33. Review from Philadelphia Daily News:

GOKEY GOES FOR GOLD: With those earnest, powerful pipes, he could have come out of the “American Idol” wringer as another blue-eyed soul singer. But what would that have gotten Danny Gokey? Status as “the next Taylor Hicks”? Uh, pass.

Fortunately, the third-place finalist of Season 8 listened when guest mentor Randy Travis suggested country. On Gokey’s debut, “My Best Days,” (19 Recordings/RCA, B+), it fits perfectly.

Does it help the backstory that Gokey used to be a big-rig driver and church musical director? That his wife died unexpectedly a month before the competition?

All that gives him the gumption to gather and earnestly sing wholesome, sometimes lighthearted twang-rockers and ballads about making each moment count, keeping the faith and never letting love leave your heart.

  34. Monte, I agree with Brian too, except that Crazy Not To is phenomenal!

That is my fave, although IWNSGB is really good.

  35. Don’t really post here anymore, but had to come in and congratulate the Danny fans! Hope your guy has great success!!

Aek and JosieX, I spent a lot of time this summer during the AI tour in the concert threads reading your posts and you both gave me a new appreciation for Danny. I plan to buy the album when I get home! Congrats!!!

  36. Aww, Cindy. Your post makes me happy. I always remember your kindness at the end of the AI tour, and it did make me feel better about our (Danny fans) long summer of discontent…lol. I’m glad you’ll be buying Danny’s album. I think it’s a great one!

Must say I shouldn’t be posting at work, but I am just very happy for Danny today. It’s been a long road, and I’m so proud of the product that Danny has put out. I’m also happy to see the itunes rankings. Yes, I understand that itunes is only a very small part of total sales, but still I wasn’t really expecting it and it feels good!

I can’t wait to pick up my hard copy later today, and to see Danny on AI this week!

    Congrats, Danny!

  37. Cindy, I remember you too. I’m glad you came back even if just briefly so I can say thank you for your kindness in saying that we made a difference to you. You made a difference to us too! It is so encouraging to know that even if we don’t know it at the time, maybe someone is listening. Thanks again! I’m glad you’re getting the album, I have no doubt you’ll enjoy it. It’s really good!

  38. Congrats to Danny! I am not a country fan and really know absolutely nothing about the country music business, but it looks like he is off to a very good start. What a fun week for him (and his fans) with the album drop and AI performance.

  39. Have any other fans had trouble getting Danny’s CD? I am starting to hear stories on how stores have only had less than 10 copies.

I went to Target and he only had one slot, which was empty. The kid told me “we only had 7 or 8 copies”. WTH? This is in MILWAUKEE.
When I asked the manager he said corporate only shipped them that many and they already asked for more.

Any one more experienced in this whole album debut thing have any insight- is this just a screwup or is their some ulterior motive?

  40. Have any other fans had trouble getting Danny’s CD? I am starting to hear stories on how stores have only had less than 10 copies

    My Walmart didn’t stock it!!

  41. They didn’t stock it because they don’t expect it to do well.

He really has no big time competition on Itunes right now either. I predict he will be out of the top ten in a few days. Sorry to be the buzz kill, but he isn’t going to have much of a career.

  42. Sumer, no worries, the buzz is not even dinged much less killed. Perhaps it’s possible that he won’t have much of a career, just as it was possible that he would be hated on tour, and never get signed, and never release an album, and be hated and reviled by country music fans. Danny doesn’t worry about predictions to the contrary, he just keeps excelling. No one has a crystal ball but my personal opinion is that he will keep doing that.

  43. I hope that Danny’s label isn’t going after just short-term satisfaction and chasing any particular number. So far they seem to have been pursuing a relatively graduated rollout and thinking for the long term, which seems smart to me.
And one thing we’ve seen with Danny, is that he is going to go after his dreams and not let negative talk or doubters hold him back. I don’t see him picking up the phone to cancel his AI appearance and tell Sugarland not to bother, because someone passed him a note that his career can’t be successful. He’s pretty driven to succeed at this point, and he has some good people in his corner.
Danny does receive some interesting comments online. Any time I’ve seen him in person (3-4 times now), I try to look around the crowd and see how people react to him and his music. It’s usually very warm and positive, if he can keep that going combined with his gifts as a vocalist, he should come out fine.

  44. Sumer, no worries, the buzz is not even dinged much less killed. ITA. I think Danny will do just fine. He has a great track record of proving his critics wrong time and time again. I could not be more pleased with Danny’s showings on ITunes and Amazon, especially when you consider that a lot of the promotion up to this point has been more a grass root effort. I definitely think that 19E and RCA Nashville are investing in Danny on a long term basis. They definitely have a lot of confidence in Danny. Danny is the most recent of the Top 4 to be signed, yet he is the first to go out on a major tour. Huge honor, especially for a new artist.

  45. awww

Only @dannygokey would be bold enough to setup at PFChangs and perform n kill two songs unplugged after we ate dinner. (via @IvanSantiago)

  46. Apparently a women’s basketball team was at that restaurant where Danny did the impromptu concert.

AlabamaWBB: The Tide is at PF Changs and american idol’s Danny Gokey is singing for us!
about 1 hours ago via mobile web

    and from Danny

I got recognized by the Univ. of Alabama girls basketball team @ PF Changs~They asked me 2 sing~The band set up & I sang 2 songs over dinner

  47. I could not be more pleased with Danny’s showings on ITunes and Amazon, especially when you consider that a lot of the promotion up to this point has been more a grass root effort.

ITA. PR has been all grass roots until his AI appearance. He doesn’t even have a banner at iTunes or at the official AI forums!
RCA is grooming him for long term sales and not a flash in the pan.

  48. I don’t worry about Danny anymore =)

And how awesome and accommodating for him to set up and sing for that college basketball team at a restaurant! I’m sure he is exhausted, but that is just the kind of guy he is; always thankful and sweet to his fans.

Album Reviews are rolling in and they are good. Even critics of Danny like Howard Cohen and EW are giving him decent reviews.

  49. Glad to see Danny’s album is still holding at #1 in country albums and #4 overall on Itunes. I do believe he will get a bump after he performs on AI on Thursday. Kind of a bummer that some fans are finding sold out stores that only stocked a small number CD’s. Guess maybe they underestimated his popularity but that can be a good thing cause I know if I go to a store and see that something is sold out – I want it even more. I do hope some of these stores are able to restock before Friday morning.

  50. A few things…
Do you guys remember when Danny made the top 12 and that picture of him and his wife was held up. He got alot of critisism for that. Was that his bass player? I know his Bass player is Sophias brother, but i wasnt sure if it was the same person who held the picture up. They look the same! Thats crazy.

What happened to Def. I was watching a performance yesterday and they had a new guitar player, but all the other players were the same. :( Def was cool

And my friend tried to get the CD, he couldnt get it anywhere around here. They were sold out everyone around 2 PM… I think thats a good sign!
