Could this be the week that Kate Gosselin finally gets eliminated? The judges gave her an A for effort, but if the truth be told, her dancing is still pretty wretched. Kate had the lowest score of all of the stars, but something tells me she’ll last another week. I’m sure the producers are hoping so–she’s been good for ratings.
High score for the night went to Evan Lysacek once again. He is pretty entertaining to watch, and I think he has a good chance of winning the whole deal.
The DWTS singers butchered THREE songs from Idol alums tonight–Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” was the backdrop for the rumba demonstration. Aiden and Edyta danced (badly) to Kris Allen’s “Live Like Your Dying” and Kate and Tony tangoed to Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment” as the singer mangled the high notes.
Are the DWTS producers rubbing 19’s nose in the fact that their cheesy dance show has been beating Idol in the ratings the past two weeks? Idol is still tops in the key demos (really old people watch DWTS), so they aren’t too worried. Yet.
Live blog and videos after the JUMP…
Double Score showdown tonight! Host Tom Bergeron brags about DWTS Ratings victory (sorry Idol). The judges will score for performance and technique. The dancers will either dance the tango or the rumba
Two pros demonstrate how to execute Viennese Crosses, Outside Swivel and Contra Check. The pairs have to execute each of these techniques in the Tango. – VIDEO
Erin Andrews and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – The Tango – Len says Erin has “sloppy feet”. The doctor had to come by and look at Erin’s sore back. Erin starts off the dance by grinding up against Len. I’m sure he’s enjoying that. Erin looks a little stiff and uncomfortable, there. Len liked the start. Ha ha. Len appreciates that it’s a full-on tango. “You came out and really worked hard. You’ve got to get on your heels, ” Bruno says, “You started very very well, then you went wrong, it’s a shame, I know you can be good.” Carrie Ann says, “Your performance suffered, because you were concentrating on your technique.” (technique, performance) Carrie Ann 6 – 7, Len 6 – 7 Bruno 6 – 7 – 39 – Erin says her heel got caught on her dress. She’s very nervous about her scores. – 1-800-868-3403 – VIDEO
Evan Lysacek and Anna Trebunskaya – The Tango – Tuck the butt, and work on those feet, says Len! Evan is looking really good out there. He’s a natural showman, and his ability to train hard means he improves week by week. Bruno says, “Strong, powerful” Carrie Ann says, “That technique was amazing” Len says, “You nailed the Viennese Crosses” – (technique, performance) Carrie Ann 9 – 9 Len 9 – 8 Bruno 9 – 9 – 52 – 1-800-868-3406 – VIDEO
The judges discuss the rumba, and the dancers’ technique. The three special moves the stars will have to display are: Opening Out, Sliding Doors and Spiral into rope spin. The pros demonstrate, dancing to Kelly Clarkson’s “Because of You” — Uhm Kym Johnson forgot to get dressed! – VIDEO
Niecy Nash and Louis Van Amstel – The Rumba – Louis says the Rumba is “spiritual” and dedicates it to Niecy’s dead brother. Hm. Niecy isn’t making any mistakes, this week, at least. She’s a better actress than she is a dancer. Len says, “I thought opening outs were good, I would have liked to see more hip action, no highlights, a bit boring, ” Bruno says, “You looked like you were in a trance, the hips never happened, it didn’t gel”, Carrie Ann says, “As a tribute, I felt the emotional connection, it didn’t read well in the dance.” Niecy says she really wanted to have a performance that showed there’s a life on the other side of loss. (technique, performance) Carrie Ann – 6 – 6 Len – 6 – 6 Bruno – 6 – 6 – 36 – 1-800-868-3405 – VIDEO
Aiden Turner and Edyta Sliwinska – The Rumba – Aiden is a little shy, and doubts himself every time, says Edyta. OMG!!!! They are rumbaing to Kris Allen’s “Live Like We’re Dying”! Unfortunately, it’s horrible. Ugh. Aiden is dancing like he’s dying. Carrie Ann says, “You looked more comfortable, you did a lot of movement generated from your shoulders.” Len says, “You acted out the dance, but there was no flow to it. It was no good.” Bruno says, “When you started dancing, it was like stop motion animation. All the movement has to come from the center.” (technique, performance) Carrie Ann – 5 – 6 Len 5 – 6 Bruno 5 – 6 – 33 – 1-800-868-3409 – VIDEO
Nicole Scherzinger and Derek Hough – The Rumba – Nicole and Derek giggle through rehearsal. Here comes the ringer! This is ridiculous. Nicole performs like the trained dancer she is. No contest! Bruno says, “Beautiful to watch, sometimes you were hesitant, a few stumbles, a little more hip action.” Carrie Ann says, “You were nervous tonight, your ankles were quivering all over the place. I liked the traditional lines. You’re out of your game tonight.” Len says, “You got the balance correct, the rumba is tough. Your arms got over-exaggerated a little bit.” (technique, performance) – Carrie Ann – 9 – 8 Len – 8 – 8 Bruno – 8 – 9 – 50. – 1-800-868-3408 – VIDEO
Jake Pavelka and Chelsie Hightower – The Tango – Jake says he had a hard time trusting his pro, but now he does! Jake looks like a douchebag. I take it he is one (didn’t watch the bachelor). Oops! He fell! Chelsie’s dress is really pretty. Too bad she’s not an All-star on SYTYCD this season. Len says, “You attacked the dance, but because of the aggression, you had an incident, but well done.” Bruno says, “It was very very very messy, you lost your posture, your footwork was questionable.” Carrie Ann says, “Your biggest problem is the way you hold her, you’re not quite connected, emotionally, physically, but I liked your performance.” (technique, performance) Carrie Ann – 6 – 7 Len – 7 – 6 Bruno 6 – 6 – 38 – 1-800-868-3404 – VIDEO
Kate Gosselin and Tony Dovolani – The Tango – Waa Waa Waa Kate whining about her life. Oh, now she’s making excuses. OMG Kate is a horrible horrible horrible dancer. And now, the DWTS singers are murdering Adam Lambert’s “For Your Entertainment”. Never thought I’d hear that song on ABC again. Bruno says, “Step in the right direction, technique is still bad.” Carrie Ann says, “I’m really proud of you. You may not have artistry, but you have determination.” Carrie Ann calls them on a lift. Len says, “Tony, you’ve done a great job to help Kate produce her best dance so far.” OMG they are definitely grading on a curve. Maybe it’s reverse psychology on the voters. (technique, performance) – Carrie Ann – 4 – 6 Len – 5 – 6 Bruno – 5 – 6 – 32 – 1-800-868-3410 – VIDEO
Chad Ochocinco and Cheryl Burke – The Rumba – Chad is having a hard time with romance! The big giant ring he gave Cheryl makes up for it, I’m sure. That was actually, pretty good. Carrie Ann says, “You turned on the heat, this is your best dance. Your posture improved.” Len says, “Improvement in the posture, the performance, your best.” Bruno says, “I’m telling you the hunk is smoldering tonight, you were fluid, you sustained the lines. Very few men do that.” Cheryl flashes the big ass ass Chad gave her as a thank you. It’s on her ring finger… (technique, performance) – Carrie Ann – 7 – 8 Len – 6 – 7 Bruno – 8 – 8 – 44 – 1-800-868-3401 – VIDEO
Pamela Anderson and Damian Whitewood – The Rumba – Len tells Pamela that she has to refine her dance. In other words–don’t whore it up for the rumba! Pamela dances really well, but I’m thinking some of the women who watch and vote just Do. Not. Like. Her. That’s why she ended up in the bottom 2 last week. Len says, “It was understated, you’re a little bit over-dressed, but well done.” Bruno says, “Refinement and elegance and still be drop dead sexy, best dance you ever done.” Carrie Ann says, “There was something very profound happening, your arms were strange, but really well done.” (technique, performance) – Carrie Ann – 7 – 8 Len – 8 – 7 Bruno 8 – 9 – 47 – 1-800-868-3411 – VIDEO
