Dancing with the Stars – Semi-Final – Results

*Watch this Space*

I’ll post the Dancing with the Stars results in this space. Look out for that.

Joanna Krupa and Derek Hough were eliminated from Dancing with The Stars tonight…

Not a surprise. Joanna was a competent dancer, but she never really connected with the viewers.

Donny and Kym, Kelly and Louis and Mya and Dmitry will compete in the Final next week.

  1. Buh bye Joanna and Derek. Don’t let the door hit ya on the way out.

  2. Yessssssssssssssssss! I can actually enjoy the finale next week!!! (Sorry, I suppose that’s rude, but I don’t care. LOL.)

However, I am not enjoying hearing the singers butchering “Hallelujah” again.

  3. Missed the show…. so Joanna and Derek got the boot? If so, then from a dancing perspective it won’t even be close. Donny and Kelly aren’t that good of dancers.

  4. Joanna was Mya’s only really dancing competition. Joanna had a lot of grace and raw talent. I love Donny and Kelly, particularly Donny, but they don’t come anywhere close to Mya as dancers. As I watched the biographical videos last night, it seemed that Donny was the only one whose video didn’t have some information that could hurt him with voters. Kelly blamed her drug use on people talking down about her instead of owning her mistakes. Mya said she’d love to win the contest, which is okay to say once you’re in the finals, but looks presumptuous beforehand. Joanna didn’t say anything wrong and couldn’t really help what went down in her video; the producers put that together. Hugh Hefner???!!! Bleech! Some voters may not vote for her once they realized she wasn’t American, but those Hugh Hefner clips were a really turnoff. Joanna isn’t the first person who knows Hugh Hefner that’s been on the show, but that was the kiss of death. And Hefner looks like death too.

  5. so Joanna and Derek got the boot? If so, then from a dancing perspective it won’t even be close. Donny and Kelly aren’t that good of dancers.

You never know. I think Joanna was better technically than Donny and Kelly. It will be interesting.

  6. I am a little bit surprised. I will admit I’d love to know what Derek had planned for the Finals. Having said that, I am happy for Kelly. This is something she could only dream about.

Mya is not a complete shoo-in on the Mirror Ball. Personality and fan clubs do help. I am thinking about last year when the best dancer did not win. With Joanna out, this gives Donny more of a chance to win.

    It should be a fun.

Yes she was. I wouldn’t be so sure Mya will be a lock for this. Everyone thought Melissa would win ….. didn’t happen. A perky girl with a big smile and a huge fanbase won …… which is why I wouldn’t be shocked if Donny pulls this out.

They at least got Mya in the final like they wanted. She still doesn’t connect with me. I think a lot of her votes are coming from Dymitri’s SYTYCD fanbase. Sigh, I’m going to miss Derek’s pretty there next week.

  8. So totally wrong on a dancing standpoint. I didn’t watch this week’s dances, but Joanna has turned out some outstanding dances, including the futuristic paso for a recent example. Kelly? Not so much. Heck, she hasn’t even been trying as hard as Joanna lately. But hey. Kelly is more “relatable”–she isn’t as pretty or as thin (although arguably she’s even more spoiled)… She def. has a bigger incoming fanbase. So I guess I should’ve seen this coming :( But still. I’m sad. Derek turns out AMAZING freestyles… D:

  9. Happy with the 3 finals. Why does Barry Gibb sing so high, it get higher with age. Maybe trying to keep those damn teeth in, hey I love the Bee Gees and their Saturday Nite Fever songs. And when one more of them dies will they be just the Bee Gee?????

Did I say Fever?? Off to listen to Adams Fever once more before bed.

  10. Yes she was. I wouldn’t be so sure Mya will be a lock for this. Everyone thought Melissa would win ‘ ¦.. didn’t happen. A perky girl with a big smile and a huge fanbase won ‘ ¦’ ¦ which is why I wouldn’t be shocked if Donny pulls this out.

Everyone thought Melissa would win?? Maybe here, but definitely not on the DWTS fanboards and the main DWTS site I used to frequent. Girl got a LOT of hate. Nope, people thought Gilles would win…he was the frontrunner, after all, like Mya was. I personally thought that Shawn was a better dancer though, from a technical standpoint, and imo the judges overpraised Gilles’ dance ability and under-praised Shawn’s. She was a better dancer, by the end, than Donny is now. But Donny is a guy, which is an advantage on DWTS, plus he has a huge fanbase, so I think at this point he’s got a really good chance…better than Shawn did at this point last season, and better than Mya does now… plus I think they’re looking to shake things up after having a whole bunch of female winners in a row. So we’ll see…

  11. I have to agree on the Hugh Hefner thing. That is a real turnoff.

Mya is no doubt the best dancer, but we all know these shows aren’t about who is the best. There are other factors involved.

One thing I have been disappointed with is the wide disparity between the professional dancers. I don’t think Donny’s partner is as good at dancing or Choreography as Derek Hough or others. I guess in the end, Derek’s and Joanna’s talent or good looks didn’t matter.

  12. Interesting fact from Wikipedia concerning Dmitry. His dancing coach since 2004 has been Louis van Amstel. Oh, such beautiful irony…

Barry Gibb has joked about how difficult it has been with his falsetto. With age, the voice normalyl deepens. He should rely more on his other range. This appearance meant so much to Bee Gees fans. Maurice is forever missed. I had hoped they would get one of their sons to be the third partner.

  13. I am completely disgusted. Compared to Joanna, Kelly Osborn is an absolute clod. Derek Hough is possibly the best choreographer and dancer of the professionals. It is a complete travesty that they are not in the finals. I don’t think it helped Joanna to have Hugh Hefner speak for her last week. I didn’t realize she had any connection to the whole playboy thing. I just thought she was a legitimate model and a lovely dancer. Too bad it becomes more of a popularity contest than a dance contest, but I can’t believe Kelly Osborn is popular with the viewers. I find nothing likeable and her dancing is underwhelming.

I agree with you, and to me it’s not a dancing competition – it’s a popularity contest. Kelly and Donny are both stiff and rigid when they dance and IMO not graceful at all.

  15. I’m kind of afraid to ask, but wasn’t Whitney Houston supposed to perform tonight? It seems like things haven’t gone so well in her live performances lately so I am curious.

  16. Donny’s dancing has been on life support the last couple of weeks. I suspect that doing four dances in the finale might be the final nail in his chances of winning.

Ms Kroupa hardly was a great dancer, so any tears I shed over her departure would be of the crocodile variety. Her two biggest problems were her left foot and her other left foot. Very close was her inability to move her hips with any real swing.

Kelly is simply a mess as a dancer, I’ll assume that she is there to cry, pout, text to Twitter and provide somebody that the “common man” can relate to. Even the cherry picked clips they showed tonight were rife with awkwardness. And she copped to forgotting her solo…brilliant!

Mya should win. Good dancing connects with me. I guess that I’m funny that way.

  17. YES!!!! i’m so glad that smug ass derek is not in the finals. there’s just something about him that i don’t like. i voted for kelly cause i like her and i love louis & i voted for mya cause she’s the best dancer and i really love dmitry!!!! i’m so watching the finals now!

  18. I usually vote for the star who has grown the most over the season. I love the transformation as a dancer and as a person. It can be a very humbling experience to stand in front of those judges.

I will also admit that I like some of the pros more than others and that it does affect my voting some. But at the end of the day, I vote for the star who connects with the audience and who is the most improved, not the star who is necessarily the “best” dancer.

  19. I usually vote for the star who has grown the most over the season. I love the transformation as a dancer and as a person. It can be a very humbling experience to stand in front of those judges.

I will also admit that I like some of the pros more than others and that it does affect my voting some. But at the end of the day, I vote for the star who connects with the audience and who is the most improved, not the star who is necessarily the ‘best’ dancer.

Idk to me that’s like grading for effort in schools, or medals for most improved player on little league teams… It’s one of the aspects of American culture I don’t like. Besides, when you start off good, there is less room for obvious improvement. You can improve drastically from poor to fair but once you’re good then the change from good to very good is far less dramatic and harder for amateur eyes to spot, tho it still takes the same amount of effort. At a certain point you start to plateau. So voting for most improved pretty much guarantees that you can’t pick the best dancer. I understand where you’re coming from tho, just sharing why that doesn’t work as much for me :)

  20. Wow, that was a ridiculous elimination last night. Hopefully Mya will get the boot next week. I hope next season they do not put another dancer/choreographer in the mix. So Donny and Kelly – get your games on and hopefully one of them takes the mirror ball home.

  21. so Joanna and Derek got the boot? If so, then from a dancing perspective it won’t even be close. Donny and Kelly aren’t that good of dancers.

So thank God it’s not about dancing perspective!

Mya leaves me absolutely cold- I wouldn’t care if she danced with the precision of a mechanical marvel, I wouldn’t vote for her.
I vote Kelly because I like her and I want to, but think Donny has a better chance at winning. I may have to eat my preseason words and vote for him to keep Mya from winning.

  22. I’m happy because Donny & Kelly have been my favorites all along. I’ll probably have to give Donny all my votes next week because think he has the best shot at beating Mya. I didn’t think Shawn was anywhere near the best dancer last season but that’s not necessarily what the show is about just like AI isn’t always about the best singer winning.

  23. So thank God it’s not about dancing perspective!

Then they should really rename the show to Performing with the Stars. Nigel would be yelling at the voters if he were associated with the show.

I said before the season even began that Donny would be in the Finale, and probably win it, whether his dancing deserved it or not. Which is a shame, because the show is supposed to be about dancing.

You can improve drastically from poor to fair but once you’re good then the change from good to very good is far less dramatic and harder for amateur eyes to spot, tho it still takes the same amount of effort.

    Well said.

  24. I have to admit, I only keep track of the show through this blog (love Mya). Last night though, I watched the whole thing, which made me realize that there is a second host (Samantha Harris). Is it just me, or did Samantha Harris’ dress was see-through? Was that a “malfunction”, or is that normal for her?

  25. Joanna may have had some better skills than Kelly and Donny, and certainly had sex appeal, but she lacked an entertainer’s charisma. Personally, she turned me off from day one. Goodbye Barbie and Ken.

Kelly has surprised everyone, including (I bet) the producers, who cast her in the “Steve-O Crackpot / Recovering Addict / Comic Punching Bag” role. She was clearly CLEARLY earmarked to leave this week; they gave her the freakin’ kiss of death dance: the Quickstep! No one survives the Quickstep!! Kelly actually has some natural ability and has been surprisingly endearing. Her dancing has dramatically improved each week. She’s the underdog, for sure, and America loves an underdog. Don’t count her out.

Mya is in a different league, dancing wise. She could be a pro. In fact, she did appear as a DANCER in the movie Chicago so… she is a pro. Even so, Mya is far and away the best dancer and to my knowledge never did ballroom dancing before this. She’s always fan-freaking-tastic, week after week. I’m just sayin’…. the girl has had some training.

Donny’s had years of training too, as a showman, an entertainer, and yes – as a dancer. He’s appeared in musical theater as well as on the pop stage. He’s also 51 years old. His sons are older than many of the former winners of the show!!! He’s a good dancer but not the best, and though he’s in great shape, he is losing steam now. Even so, you KNOW he has a huge voting block – his fans are likely the core demographic of the show.

I’m with MJ, that Donny has the best chance to win. Mya is the best dancer, but from a fanbase perspective, I think Kelly has the only chance of beating him.

  26. Forgot to say – I flove Dmitry’s choreography, but IMO Louis is the best choreographer and teacher on the show.

I actually like all three pros in the finals, but I’m very happy to see Louis there.

  27. I think I’m going to like this final. Kym, Louis, and Dmitry are three of my favorite pros, and I like their choreography, especially Louis’s and Dmitry’s. Mya’s a great dancer, whom I really enjoy watching, and I find both Donny and Kelly kind of interesting, engaging, and fun to have around, as well as people who’ve made great strides in their dancing in the course of the show. Should be quite an enjoyable final. I think they’re all very deserving of being there. Think Donny will win, though.

  28. I’m kind of afraid to ask, but wasn’t Whitney Houston supposed to perform tonight?

JosieX – She’s scheduled for next week’s results show.

  29. Mya is the best dancer but I think this show is more about the growth we see in each dancer and the obstacles that they overcome. Donny – his age, Kelly her past, that is why I think either of them should win this thing. Mya also leaves me cold also, I am not excited to see if she pulls it off this week or wows, she always had this dancing thing down, no surprises or omg’s with her, same old same old so watching her is boring because she is almost as good as a pro but without the wow factor. So – go Donny and Kelly!

Oh and Louis is my favorite pro ever, love him

  30. I have grown to love Mya through this season, her personality and spirit, she’s hardworking, has a great attitude, poised, gracious, and a great dancer. I also really enjoy Kelly and am glad she stayed. I thought Donny should go, but knew he wouldn’t. Joanne was okay but a bit offputting. I like Derek but I also like Louis so either way was okay with me.

  31. If Donny wins, will he be the oldest to have won DWTS? 51, he may be slowing down but he is in excellent shape! I saw him at Chastain Park in Atlanta 5 years ago and he was not in the shape he is now – he had a pouch!

  32. Kelly has surprised everyone, including (I bet) the producers, who cast her in the ‘Steve-O Crackpot / Recovering Addict / Comic Punching Bag’ role. She was clearly CLEARLY earmarked to leave this week; they gave her the freakin’ kiss of death dance: the Quickstep! No one survives the Quickstep!!

Don’t agree at all. The producers want to keep Sharon Osborne happy. (There’s so much incest in the reality TV shows AI, AGT, DWTS.) I’m sure it was no mistake that Hugh Hefner was interviewed to “support” Joanna. Mostly women watch the show (and, more than men who do, vote) and, liberal or conservative, young or old, are very likely to be disgusted by Hefner. The producers knew that. Joanna probably knew that –and that they were essentially kicking her off the show and that’s why she was crying on Monday. She and Derek both seemed to know they were going. Thank God the producers didn’t do that to Brooke Burke, who was so talented and charming.
