Dancing With The Stars – Season 18 – Week 9

Dancing With The Stars : Season 18 photo DWTS18_fin.jpg

Hey guys!!! Amanda (Celebrity Bug) is back in action and here to recap another exciting week of Dancing With the Stars. Last week, the contestants danced two dances and Danica McKeller said goodbye to the competition.

Tonight, the remaining five contestant will dance for a shot at making the finals, but one celebrity and their pro will fall short and head home. The contestants kick the night off as they are introduced by Tom and Erin. Kenny Ortega, a three-time Emmy winner, is sitting in tonight as the guest judge and he wants to be taken to a place he’s never been before.

Results will come later, but for now, let’s get into some dancing.

Candace & Mark (Viennese Waltz)

They are excited about her getting her highest score last week and the clip shows how much fun they have together. Her personal icon is Angela Thomas, a bible teacher and author, and she gets inspired by her because they both love God. They dancing is okay. She overacts a bit, loses her timing a bit and just seems to be over-thinking the routine.

Len thinks the pressure got to here, Kenny loves her determination (Another fully guest judge? Great!), Bruno thought she started great and Carrie Ann thinks this dance could be an inspiration to do better for her second dance.

Tom reveals that Candace and Mark are SAFE, and going to the finals. Wow!

Charlie & Sharna (Fox Trot)

His icon is Scott Hamilton, the Olympic champion in 1984, and Scott thinks he needs to show his versatility to win the competition. He will try just that with a hip-hop inspired routine later, but first, he is going to dance to “New York, New York”. So light. So playful. So Charlie. I thought the 10’s last week were completely insane, but this was delightful.

Kenny calls it “indescribably delightful”, Bruno compares him to Fred Astaire, Carrie Ann calls it brilliant and Len calls it just right.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 & Kenny-10 = 40/40

Amy & Derek (Quick Step)

She is working with different footwear this time and he talks about staying away from traveling dances because of the limitations that they place on her. I’m sure she will kill it like she does everything else. She gets a call from her icon, Oprah Winfrey, and she looks up to her because she has overcame a lot and given back after becoming successful. Dinner is on Lady O, if they win. As for the dancing, it’s completely enthralling as always.

Bruno calls it jaw-dropping and incredible, Carrie Ann said it took her breath away, Len would have like more body contact and Kenny tells America to bring them back.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-9, Bruno-10 & Kenny-10 = 39/40
To Vote For Amy:

Peta and James are SAFE, while Meryl and Mak are IN JEOPARDY.

James & Peta (Cha Cha Cha)

James feels like they can win this competition and tonight he is dancing to his icon, the late and great Michael Jackson. He gets a visit from LA Reid and he plans to strive to make him proud in his dance. He is really trying, but the dance is too fast for him. He is a step behind Peta and all the moves look awkward. Props to him for saluting his icon, but this was his worst dance in weeks.

Carrie Ann calls it spectacular, Len thought it was a perfect blend of Michael and Cha Cha Cha, Kenny calls it electrifying and Bruno calls it “effortless cool”. I’ve been a big fan of James on this show, but I completely disagree.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 & Kennyy-10 = 40/40
To Vote For James:

5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Meryl & Maks (Jive)

Her icon is Kristi Yamaguchi, a former Olympic and Dancing With the Stars champion, and she loves that she gets both of those things. Maks, however, is worried about disappointing her and lets his anger show. Her dancing is amazing.

Len calls it fantastic, Kenny said it was like she was ice skating, Bruno calls it impeccable and Carrie Ann tries to give out some critique, but Maks starts giving out kisses. Sign me up!

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 & Kenny-10 = 40/40
To Vote For Meryl:

The final Macy’s Star of Dance performance continues to salute icons (Michael Jackson, Prince, Marvin Gaye) and as usual, it is a completely dazzling experience.

Candace & Mark (Jazz)

They are dancing to “Nasty” by Janet Jackson, and this is clearly a mismatch for Candace. Better than her first dance, but not nearly nasty enough for me. Len thought it wonderful and totally unexpected, Kenny compares her to the old ladies of Broadway, Bruno calls it “nasty but tasty” and Carrie Ann thought it was so together. She would have like to see more attitude though.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-10, Bruno-9 & Kenny-10 = 38/40
To Vote For Candace:
Call 800-868-3407, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Charlie & Sharna (Samba)

Charlie is aiming to show his versatility this time with a hip-hop routine, and it is clear from the very first move that this isn’t in his wheelhouse. He’s even more awkward than James was earlier, but James did get a perfect score so perhaps this will go over well with the judges as well. Kenny thought it was clean, but lacking funk. Bruno agrees with Kenny, Carrie Ann loves the joy he brings to dancing and Len thought it looked heavy, but says he deserves to be in the finals. I agree.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-9, Bruno-9 & Kenny-9 =36/40
To Vote For Charlie:
Call 800-868-3412, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Amy & Derek (Jazz)

Derek is a force to be reckoned with in terms of his choreography and the creativity that he brings to it. He is just amazing and undeniably better at working around the limitations of his partner (past and present) than any other pro. I’m speechless. Bruno calls it a “classic moment”, Carrie Ann says there was one out of place moment, Len salutes Derek for his choreography and Kenny says it was perfection. Carrie Ann can have several seats, because I agree.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-10, Bruno-10 & Kenny-10 = 39/40
To Vote For Amy:
Call 800-868-3410, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

James & Peta (Rumba)

Who’s safe and not is pretty surprising, but James has had the biggest progression as a dancer of the remaining contestants. Isn’t that what it should be about? Plus, his chemistry with Peta is off the charts. Carrie Ann loves his effort, Len says his arms and hands lose expression, Kenny calls it “stylish and sexy” and Bruno agrees with the rest of the panel.

Carrie Ann-9, Len-9, Bruno-9 & Kenny-9 = 36/40
To Vote For James:
Call 800-868-3402, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Meryl & Maks (Viennese Waltz)

They are dancing to “Just A Fool” by Christina Aguilera and Blake Shelton. Love this song! Back to the task at hand now, the dancing is superb. I don’t know if it was spellbinding enough to get a perfect score, but given they are freely handing out 10’s tonight and the fact that three of the judges are standing signals that they could. Len loves that they went for it 100%, Kenny thought it power and grace, Bruno calls them unbelievable and Carrie Ann calls her incredible and talks about how she enchants the audience.

Carrie Ann-10, Len-10, Bruno-10 & Kenny-10 = 40/40
To Vote For Meryl:
Call 800-868-3406, or Use ABC.COM and/or Facebook.
5 Vote Limit Per Method /Per ABC.COM / Facebook Account.

Now, it’s time for the results. Candace should really be going home now, but she was announced safe earlier. Instead, either Charlie, Meryl or Amy, all deserving of being in the finals, will be packing their bags one week shy of the finals. Amy and Derek are SAFE, Meryl and Maks are SAFE, Charlie and Sharna are ELIMINATED.
