There will be no planned double elimination on tonight’s Dancing with the Stars, because unfortunately, contestant Jeannie Mai is forced to leave the competition due to health concerns.
The TV host was hospitalized after being diagnosed with epiglottitis, a potentially life threatening inflammatory condition that can cause swelling and block airflow to the lungs, reports ABC news.
Jeannie confirmed she has to leave DWTS because of the diagnosis.
“My doctors discovered a health concern with my throat which requires immediate attention and surgery,” she told Good Morning America in an exclusive statement. “I am heartbroken that my DWTS journey has to end here.”
“I have pushed myself to new limits physically and mentally, and I am so proud of how far we’ve come,” she added.
Jeannie and her pro partner Brandon Armstrong were set to perform the Charleston to “Shout” by The Isley Brothers, along with participating in the season’s first relay alongside two other couples.
Dancing with the Stars confirmed the news on social media this morning. “Jeannie Mai will not be able to continue to compete on #DWTS this season due to a health concern that requires immediate attention. Jeannie has inspired us, along with millions of fans, with her energy and dedication. We wish her a full and speedy recovery.”
