Chris Sligh writes New Rascall Flatts Single

I planned to post the awesome news that Chris Sligh had co-written Rascall Flatts’ new single “Here Comes Goodbye”, but then I got an email message that Chris had taken down his blog post, and not to mention it until Monday.

But maybe it was so the blogs wouldn’t scoop USA Today.

I won’t be making that mistake again. Heh.

Seriously, though, what a fantastic coup for Chris, who was my favorite singer of the Season 6 crew. Chris wrote “Here Comes Goodbye” last April with Clint Lagerberg, who also co-wrote Chris’ single “Empty Me”, a Top 10 single on the Christian charts.

“He had the idea, ‘What if we treated goodbye like a person?'” Chris says. “We sat down and took it from there, painted this whole picture.

“I remembering sitting after we finished it and thinking, ‘This song is going to make a lot of women cry.'”

The writers cut a demo with Nashville singer Sean McConnell the following day, and the day after that, the group put it “on hold” — meaning Chris and Clint couldn’t pitch it to any other acts until Rascal Flatts decided whether or not they would record and release it.

Chris found out in late October that Rascal Flatts actually had cut his song. He learned Wednesday that it would be the first single from the band’s new album, Unstoppable, out April 7.

Chris hasn’t heard the Rascall Flats version yet. He describes the song as “pretty heartbreaking.” He says, “The demo we did was just piano/vocal, I know that they did full band, and they’ve got strings on it and everything.”

“Here Comes Goodbye” goes to radio stations Tuesday, 1/21.

Chris co-wrote a song with Season 6 contestant, Gina Glocksen, for her upcoming album. Plus, Phil Stacey and Luke Menard are both considering Chris’s songs for their next projects.

“To have the first major cut be a single for Rascal Flatts is pretty insane, ” he says.

Congratulations, Chris.
