According to “sources” American Idol producers, and executives, “hatched” a plan to replace Mariah Carey with Jennifer Lopez, who sat on the panel on seasons 10 and 11. Mariah reportedly, responded with a thread of litigation and that was that. Producers are STILL negotiating with Jennifer to appear on the finale in May.

American Idol Source: No More Save, But There is a Contingency Plan To Fix Schedule (POLL)

TV Line is reporting that, according to sources from American Idol, The Save can no longer be used in competition. The only problem with that? There were only 10 finalists, but 10 weeks of final competition to fill. In other words, if The Save had been used, it would have made up for an extra week in the schedule. No double elimination needed.
