UPDATE: Casey’s GoFundMe raised over $11,690 in less than 24 hours. That’s more than twice the fund’s $5,000 goal. Casey drops another video, thanking his fans: “New bassy will be in my facey soon! I Love You All!” He plans to thank every donator personally. “Man, is this a good feeling,” he says in the clip. “I’m really excited to play my bass. Thank you for the support.”

Oh no. Casey Abrams, the jazzy bass playing finalist from American Idol season 10 has been robbed. A thief broke into his car and stole 3 musical instruments. Sadly, one of those instruments is an upright bass he has been playing since 14 years old.

Fans saw Casey play that bass on American Idol in 2011, on videos with Postmodern Jukebox and more.

The singer and musician has taken to social media, asking fans to help him pay for a new upright bass.

“Hi I’m Casey Abrams, You know me from American Idol, Postmodern Jukebox, and from playing the bass.” Casey writes on Instagram. “My whole life is the upright bass, as you can tell by all of my social media being @CaseyBassy.”

“Someone broke into my car and stole 3 instruments, one of which was my upright bass I got when I was 14”

Casey continued, “A couple weeks ago, someone broke into my car and stole 3 instruments, one of which was my upright bass I got when I was 14.”

The bass is not only his means to earning a living, but also a sentimental part of his musical life.

“It was played in all my jazz recitals, rock concerts and was even the bass I played on American Idol,” said Casey. “It was the bass tracked on all my records, in every Postmodern Jukebox video and in every social media video you’ve ever seen.”

Currently, Casey is borrowing a bass from a friend, but he needs one “badly.” It’s “not only for my love of music and jazz,” he said, “but for my whole career.”

“This bass cost $4,500 with the case, stand, pickup, tuner and bow”

“This bass cost $4,500 with the case, stand, pickup, tuner and bow,” said Casey.

Musical instruments are expensive. “I’m asking $5,000 for the taxes I’ll have to pay.
I’d love to have this by Nov 9th as that is when I’m headed to a memorial service in Vegas and then to go play for my 103 year old Grammy in her new place.”

Casey ends the message, “Please send anything you can! I will thank you with a video!” He started his GoFundMe only an hour ago and he is almost halfway to his goal! If you’d like to contribute, Click This Link.

“This was a horrible thing to happen”

On the GoFundMe page he posts a youtube video.

Casey also lost a guitar he bought in New Zealand and a new electric bass. He promises to send a thank you video to every individual person who contributes to the fund. And once he buys a new bass, he’ll play it for you “to your heart’s content.”

“This is such a horrible thing to happen,” Casey said. “It’s mostly just the…memories. I’m never gonna get that back…there’s an empty space in my house.” He’ll never be able to say, “this is the bass I played on American Idol.”
