During Saturday’s (Jan 6) NFL wild-card match-up between the Atlanta Falcons and Los Angeles Rams fans of Carrie Underwood were delivered a treat. A sneak peak of the American Idol season 4 winner’s new football anthem “The Champion,” was played over some highlights.
Sunday Night Football executive producer Fred Gaudelli asked the singer to write the anthemic tune for the upcoming Super Bowl LII. The song will be released in full before the the big game on February 4.
Carrie Underwood’s Injuries Due to a Fall More Extensive than First Reported
“I think it’s going to become a sports anthem,” Gaudelli said of the new song. “It’s going to be one of those songs that you see cut to highlights for the next 25 years.” Carrie became the face of Sunday Night Football in 2013, taking over for Faith Hill.
