First there was Carrie Underwood’s Christmas special, featuring the Idol winner in several comedy skits.

Next, was Carrie’s turn as Tiffany the Pharma girl in an upcoming episode of How I Met Your Mother (set to air March 1), Now, Variety is reporting, the newly engaged Carrie nabbed a role on the big screen:

  1. Ok. I guess 19 is serious about making money outside of recording music. I’m befuddled at the idea of Carrie in a surfer movie though.

  2. Well, I thought they were trying to move her “brand” outside of music, to boost profits. But I can’t say I ever expected this.

I guess they figured that if acting could make Jennifer H a star it’ll work for Carrie, too.

Carrie still looked pretty stiff to me on the holiday special in those “acting” bits — cute…but stiff. Hope they’re prepared for a lot of takes on this film. Since it’s indie, though, I suppose they’re thrilled to have her, since she’s going to pull in tons of moviegoers to an indie film that otherwise might have to struggle to get attention. This way, every country music fan will want to see it. Smart move on their part.

Up next: the remake of From Justin to Kelly, ??

  3. Carrie still looked pretty stiff to me on the holiday special in those “acting” bits

Nah. She was great. Stiff isn’t a word I’ve heard used to describe her since her Idol days. I don’t buy into it anymore. She’s a totally different person now.

  4. Very cool to be making a movie of Bethany’s story. The girl is amazing. AnnaShopia Robb is a good choice to play her.

I love Helen Hunt and Dennis Quaid’s acting abilities. I doubt that Carrie’s role is really that big , but I could be wrong. Kudos to her for getting the part.

  5. once again, big ups to carrie for going outside of her bread and butter in snagging this role. who cares if it’s a small role, it’s another feather in her cap of expanding her ever growing reach beyond this little idol bubble some still want to trap the alums in… she is doing what i’d think we’d like to see all our faves do, but anyhoo… i say go on carrie, keep doing your thing :D

  6. Slightly off topic but newsworthy.

I’m sure everyone has read (or seen) how tragically awful Taylor Swift was at the Grammy’s. She is just one more in a long list of “superstars” who can’t sing worth a damn live but are “auto-tuned” into greatness in the studio.

This just makes REAL singers like Carrie, Adam, Kris, etc stand out because they actually CAN sing and are not just an updated version of Milli Vanilli (great packaging, no talent). Adam may be one of the technically most perfect live performers of all time.

    THE MILLI VANILLI THING:
Seriously, what is the difference between what Millli Vanilli did and what so many artists who seriously CANNOT sing (Taylor Swift) do with auto-tuner in the studio. Both are forms of fraud IMHO.

  7. I don’t see Carrie as an actress, she has never seemed to me to have that particular talent, but I’m open to being surprised. I wonder if she’ll be herself or play a character and how big her role will be. I trust that the director knows what she can do and so I can only say, kudos to Carrie for branching out. Nothing ventured nothing gained. This girl has more to her than initially meets the eye.

  8. Respectable cast. I doubt Carrie has a big part and I guess she really is making an effort to step outside her comfort zone. I’d be perfectly content if she just stuck to singing and am way more excited about her getting invited to perform at the Hollywood Bowl with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra.

  9. I am glad for Carrie. She will do real well, I thought she was good in her special, and she always does a great job acting in her videos.

  10. Nah. She was great. Stiff isn’t a word I’ve heard used to describe her since her Idol days. I don’t buy into it anymore. She’s a totally different person now.

Nothing to buy! I watched it and she looked stiff to me! As I said, cute — very cute, as usual — but quite stiff in most of the non-singing stuff, in my opinion. You watched it and she looked relaxed — not unusual for things to strike different viewers differently.

Not much of a problem for a movie, though, of course. With a bunch of takes, there’ll be plenty of shots where she’s relaxed, I’m sure.

  11. I just have to say that Carrie’s acting was great in her latest video. Don’t discount what this girl can bring. I think she has a lot of surprises within her.

  12. Good for Carrie, hope she does well. I actually thought she was funny on her Christmas special, I like her sense of humor ;)

  13. I agree with everyone– this doesn’t sound like a big part at all, and for that, I’m glad. I think she has a chance to do really well in a small part. Better to ease into this acting thing, definitely.

  14. Can’t say that the skits in Carrie’s special were “acting”, but she has done a creditable job in music videos, notably “Just A Dream” and in yesterday’s new release, “Temporary Home”. If Carrie is playing Bethany Hamilton’s youth minister, someone who probably was in the inner circle after Bethany’s accident, hopefully she can show that same empathy and emotion from TH. I watched it yesterday three times and cried all three times.

    Exactly! Carrie rules.

    Great Posts!!!!
Taylor is getting on my nerves everytime she wins an award with the over the top Oh My God! speech. It’s getting pretty old.

  17. Taylor Swift is within inches of going “pants-on-the-ground”overexposed. Especially now that people can see she really can’t sing well enough to even get a golden ticket on AI.

It’s hard enough to not get overexposed when you are actually deserving of all the praise, but when you get the OTT tongue-bath she has gotten THEN people realize ur a fake? Not good.

    Carrie can sing.

P.S., How many “superstar” singers today could make it top 20 on Idol singing live? Beyonce, Christina, Gaga – yeah of course, but many others no.

  18. Big mistake. She was awful in her Christmas special. Those skits were cringe worthy. She’s a good singer and should stick to it imo.
