  1. It’s a family affair! Nice video; I bet Mike never thought he would
    be in a music video,though!

  2. Such a great video. Shaun Silva did an awesome job. Carrie should stick with this director for a couple more videos.

Mrs. Underwood is a pretty good actress as well ;)

  3. I don’t think my Mama would have worried about me if I was driven in a chauffered luxury car, wearing a million dollar diamond, and embarked on a multi-million dollar private jet. The sentiments of the song are nice old-time country smaltz but the setting is a bit OTT (even though it’s straight out of Carrie’s fairy tale life)…but then it is a perfect video for all the little girls out there who are convinced that Prince Charming is going to ride up on a…or should I say skate up on a pair of golden hockey skates.

As usual with Carrie, for me, her singing is great..her choice of material is suspect, and her video leaves me cold.

  4. I was toast just as soon as Mama Underwood started talking. It’s a simple video but I think it got the mom’s & daughter’s emotions just right by focusing on the moments it did. It totally tugged at my heartstrings. I’m a sap that way.

I don’t think mothers only worry about how rich their daughter or her husband is. Or at least, that’s based on what I know from the mothers I’ve met.

Plus, being rich doesn’t exempt a girl from getting mistreated by her man.

  6. I’m not a Carrie fan, not a country fan, but I thought this was just lovely.

  7. Aww that was beautiful. It tugged at my heartstrings too. That song has always made me tear up but the video just adds to it.

  8. Hey Tess, Can you say anything nice about Carrie ever? Why even comment or watch if everything is “cold” to you? I don’t get it.

Anyhoo, I thought the video was very well done. I loved the personal aspect of it and it seemed so sincere. It’s making me rethink my stance on this song being the wrong single at this time. It’s exactly what’s going on in Carrie’s life so it’s perfect!

  9. FANTASTIC. I loved the video and am soo happy for Carrie and all her success.

  10. Carrie’s Mom is beautiful. You can see where she got her genes from. Every ‘little girl’ should have a wedding video like this. I see it more as that than a music video. Still, very beautiful and touching.

I like the song. I also agree that ‘money’ doesn’t buy marital bliss. The gossip columns make that abundantly clear.

  11. Hey Tess, Can you say anything nice about Carrie ever?

As I did in my statement I think Carrie has a lovely, lovely voice but most of her “visuals” just aren’t up to par with her singing and I keep waiting for her to “break-out” of the “sorority princess” mode and act and look like a real person (I hope but I just keep waiting). And I watch and comment because the information is here for me to see and read. I also think Fantasia has a great voice but the rest of her leaves me cold….so Carrie isn’t the only one.

  12. I keep waiting for her to “break-out” of the “sorority princess” mode and act and look like a real person

I think she is her real Carrie no?
Liked the MV but I was confused at end for 5 secs lol

ETA: God, I think he’s HUGE

  13. I keep waiting for her to “break-out” of the “sorority princess” mode and act and look like a real person

Fair enough. I don’t know how more “real” she can get though. I thought this video was her most personal one yet.

  14. I think it perfectly captured the feelings of a mom watching her baby girl start a new life. Mine is getting married in November, very real.

  15. I think it perfectly captured the feelings of a mom watching her baby girl start a new life.

Exactly. The song on its own I have never really enjoyed but seeing it in the context of the video really brought it home for me being the mom of two almost teenage girls. Here’s hoping my girls wait til they are 27 to take the plunge into marriage.

  16. fisch: I don’t know how more “real” she can get though. I thought this video was her most personal one yet.

Pretty much. I don’t even think there was much acting required.

    Congratulations :)

ITA with what you said too. Mama Underwood’s the star of this video and I love how the video captures that feeling of loneliness mixed with happiness after the wedding ceremony when her daughter heads off with her new husband. That moment is a microcosm of what a mom might feel watching her youngest take the next step in her life and the song’s the perspective of a daughter who understands that.

It is cheesy? Yes. Is that part of who Carrie really is? Yes. There are aspects to Carrie that are THAT “uncool” and THAT old fashioned. It’s one of the things Simon criticized her for but she’s not the type to be ashamed of it.

By the way here’s a little behind the scenes clip from the video shoot featuring Carrie and her mom.

I honestly can’t understand what’s “fake” about her video here. As someone already said, it can’t get any more real and personal than this.

After winning Idol, she hasn’t changed much, except for opening up more to the fans and media. Sure, she’s a bit old-fashioned, but her fans had always loved that about her – that shy/cheesy/polite/dorky/humble personality. So I think if you’re expecting her to “break out” and change into someone who’s cool/hip in your eyes, that probably ain’t gonna happen.

Personally, I think her voice matches her “visuals”. Her popular ballads are serious and more “old-fashioned” anyway.

  18. It’s sweet, and having her mother be the focus of the video was a good directorial call.

But I can’t help but be amused that the crew toned down the color palette so much. Because the saturation of pink at her actual wedding wasn’t believable/suitable/whatever.

I am a horrible person, but it makes me giggle.

  19. Tess – Are you out of your cotton pickin’ mind? You are comparing Carrie to Fantasia? You’re whacko! You’re cynical, jealous, and very bitter that Carrie has gotten it all, and you most likely have been dumped on all your miserable life.

I was a big Fantasia fan during season 3, picked her to win during the first auditions. But my support ended there! She’s trash and always will be.

Carrie was another of my picks right out of the box. When many of you were trashing her for not having any stage presence (as if that isn’t the easiest thing to teach), I was pointing out that she had the voice of an angel. Had she not chosen Country, she could have easily been a giant Pop star … and still might be someday. She is the epitome of the American Dream, and your snide remarks about her only show what a bitter, dried up prune you really are.

  20. Wow, Carrie and her mom are both equally gorgeous, and what a touching video/song. I’m not a huge country music fan, and therefore am not a huge Carrie listener, but her stunning voice, star power, class and stellar character cannot be denied. Also she seems pretty goofy, down to earth and has a great sense of humor. And the fact that she is good friends with David Cook tells me that she has EXCELLENT taste (not withstanding the pepto-pink wedding). :)

  21. I thought it was lovely and classy like pretty much everything Carrie does. I just found out a couple hours ago that my beloved niece got engaged. I happened to walk in just as her parents (my brother and his wife) found out. They balled like babies. I sent them this video.

I found the video touching and very sincere. How could it not be? All parts are played by the real thing? Actually, the video adds real heart to the song, which I think is good but nothing that extraordinary. Well done.

  22. Tess:

Who on earth has a mother who worries about them no matter who they are going to marry? And how stupid can someone just married be… believing that their newly married husband is their Prince Charming? Hmmm, I’m guessing romance is really dead for some around here.

  23. Lovely video! It was simple and perfect!! Perfect!!! :-)

I am not sure how many people can relate to the Rolls and private plane, but the video really couldn’t have been done any other way. It would have really looked rediculous to see Carrie and Mike riding along in an old jalopy with Carrie wearing an engagement ring that was hard to see!!!
Mike and Carrie’s wedding was simple but extragavant. The video captured their lifestyle perfect, down home values but with a large income to make things extra special. They work hard and deserve to play hard. They are wonderfully generous people as well, they never flaunt! They truly are equally yoked. Also, what a stunning couple Mike and Carrie are! Could they be anymore gorgeous?

When I was looking at Mama and noticing what a beautiful woman she is, I thought that Olay must be very excited right now!! lol Carrie mentioned that when she was little she always remembered her Mom using the original Liquid Olay and as anyone can see, Mama has beautiful skin!

I hope Carrie has a wonderful night tonight as she starts the Fall leg of her tour. I am wondering if the end of her “Mama’s Song” performance will be changed and replaced with a wedding photo. I bet it will!
