Maddie Poppe Talks the Whirlwind of Sudden Fame, Her Post-‘Idol’ Plans at Billboard Live Music Summit – Poppe has every reason to be emotional. The native of Clarksville, Iowa, (population 1,500) became a star nearly overnight after winning the latest season of the rebooted singing competition series, leading to a contract with Hollywood Records and a management deal with Jonathan Shank of Red Light Management. Shank, who joined Poppe on the panel, told the audience that even if she hadn’t won, he would have quickly snapped her up. “I had walked into … the artist’s lounge [at American Idol] one day where everybody’s just kinda hanging out,” said Shank. “And Maddie was playing ‘Piano Man’ by Billy Joel. And I just kinda snapped my head up … it just was very pure and real. And I approached her and said, ‘Hey, even if you don’t win the show, I definitely want to work with you.'” – Read more at Billboard

Scotty McCreery Says His Wife Is His ‘Biggest Fan’ — But Still Makes Him ‘Take Out the Trash’ – Despite his star status in country music, the American Idol winner says his wife of five months, Gabi Dugal, keeps him grounded by making sure he takes on his fair share of chores around the house. “She’s my biggest fan, but at the same time she couldn’t care less — which is awesome,” McCreery, 25, told PeopleTV ahead of the 2018 Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday. “I get home and she’s like, ‘Just go take out the trash and do the laundry.’” – Read more at People

From Idol to Broadway, David Cook ends a year of new experiences with his first acoustic tour – “This tour was something I wanted to do for a while – rework these songs and give them a little bit of a different sound. More for me than anybody else. I’ve been playing some of these songs the same way for 10 years,” Cook said, following a Halloween gig in Chicago where he and the band wore costumes that “made it look like animals were giving us piggy-back rides.” – Read more at Charlotte Observer
David Archuleta Interview: “American Idol” Star Sets a Christmas Mood with “Winter in the Air” – You released a Christmas album in 2009 (Christmas from the Heart), so how does Winter in the Air compare with that one? David Archuleta: For the first one, I wanted to make sure it was a reverent Christmas album. I felt like that was how I always looked at Christmas and approached it. It was called Christmas from the Heart, so I wanted to make sure it really was from the heart. With this new album, Winter in the Air, I wanted to have a little bit more fun with it, so I had some songs like “White Christmas” and “Holly Jolly Christmas,” and I tried to write a fun bouncy one myself called “Christmas Every Day” because those bring a lot of special fond memories with them as well. I just thought I’d have a little bit more fun with this one but still have some songs that are the reason for the season as well talking about Christ like “Mary, Did You Know?” and I wrote a song called “He is Born.” So this album is a mix of the two worlds. – Read more at Smashing Magazine

Paul McDonald’s debut solo album chronicles crazy times – Chronologically, you and Reed split, she got three houses, three cars and your German shepherd Enzo in the divorce settlement. Then what? It was an interesting transition. We had a really nice place out in L.A., but as soon as we made that call, I grabbed my stuff, put it in a U-haul truck, took our second dog Ira and drove cross country to Nashville, where I set up shop in a little condo on the East side. It was a few blocks away from where I used to live, prior to moving out to L.A. The Grand Magnolias had broken up when I moved to L.A., so I was really lost. – Read more at SF Examiner
