Montgomery, Alabama native Lady K finished American Idol season 20 in the Top 10 earlier this season with soulful renditions of songs such as “I’d Rather Go Blind” and “Love on the Brain.” Now, the singer has a perfect smile to go with those beautiful vocals.
While her gap-tooth smile was fine, it’s something Lady K has wanted to fix for years. The singer joins former talent show singers Elliott Yamin (Idol season 5) and Crystal Bowersox (Idol season 9) in getting cosmetic dental surgery after leaving American Idol.
“I always tell ppl I favor my celebs bc of personal ways I relate to them, not just their music. So to think that I already related to @iamcardib when I seen her on tv with a flawed smile unapologetically!” writes Lady K as she explains why she got the work done.

“But I sat in my auntie car one day & Bodak yellow came on, and this specific day my cousin @shannonelizabethtaylorr was doing my makeup and I posted singing videos and she actually photoshopped a pic of me with teeth on the same day I said idk how or when it’s gone get done, but the same person who fixed cardi teeth gone fix mine and 4 years later IT BECAME MY REALITY !!!”
Lady K is very excited about the Cardi connection: “I literally shared the same cosmetic dentist as CARDI TODAY and this beautiful woman treated me like I was already a billionaire.” Dr. Catrice Austin is the cosmetic dentist who gave Lady K her new smile.
“If you don’t believe you have the power (magic) to create the life you want with your words, then you’re sleeping on yourself !!! I have memories from today in past years where I was just embracing myself , not knowing today would come!!!”
And apparently, Lady K got the work done in an unusual setting: “We made HISTORY today FIRST CELEB TO GET A SMILE MAKEOVER IN A VAN!! the stock just went up.”
Lady K assures fans the dental work didn’t affect her voice.
And to prove to fans that the dental word did not affect her singing voice, here is Lady K singing a day after she had the work done. “I know a few ppl were concerned if my voice would change with the new teeth!!” Lady K writes, “So here is the test !! I just got over the flu so imma li. Rusty but I think I did good the day after my makeover singing @jazminesullivan !!!! Don’t play with my dentist !!!”
However, the work was temporary. About a week later, she debuted the final smile. Lady K is having a really great holiday season showing off her new smile as she sings “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas.”
