A new episode of Big Brother 17 airs tonight on CBS. Read a live recap of the episode here.
James is the HoH, and he nominated Clay and Shelli for eviction. Tonight the Power of Veto competition will take place. Will the Veto be used to save either Clay or Shelli from the chopping block? Let’s find out.
After the nomination ceremony, Clay and Shelli are upset about being nominated. Vanessa tried to give Shelli a hug, but she brushed her off. Right afterwards, Clay snaps at James and says his word means nothing in the game. Shelli tells Clay to calm down, but he says he doesn’t care anymore and will go home before she does. They’re both frustrated that they are the ones being blamed for Jason being evicted last week instead of Vanessa, Austin, Liz, or Julia. Vanessa asks Shelli and Clay why they’re mad with her, and they tell her that her decision last week has hurt them. Vanessa is now very offended since saving Austin and evicting Jason was a group decision, not just Vanessa’s. Vanessa runs out to the backyard and vents about Clay and Shelli to everyone. Afterwards, Clay and Shelli talk to James about why he broke his word to them. He tells them that they didn’t have to vote out Jason, but they did so anyway. He also points out how Clay and Shelli are a tight showmance pair and will save one another before anyone else in the house.
Shelli apologizes to Vanessa for her reaction after the nomination ceremony. She also breaks down in tears that she and Clay will be split up right before the jury portion of the game. If one of them is evicted this week, they won’t see each other again until finale night.
It’s time to pick players for the Power of Veto competition. James draws HouseGuest Choice and picks Jackie, Shelli draws Becky, and Clay draws Vanessa. Vanessa has mixed emotions about the Veto. She wants to win to prevent herself from being backdoored, but saving Clay or Shelli would upset the rest of the house. Becky is also torn about what to do since she has a good relationship with Clay and Shelli too.
The Power of Veto competition begins. Each player must catapult a dart onto a map one round at a time. At the end of each round, the player with the lowest score is eliminated and must choose a prize. As the competition goes on, the eliminated player can keep the new prize or steal a claimed one. After Round 1, Jackie is eliminated. She claims the first prize, which is the Power of Veto. After Round 2, Shelli is eliminated. She opens the next prize, which is to wear a knight costume. She trades with Jackie for the Power of Veto. After Round 3, Vanessa is eliminated. She opens the next prize, which is an Ireland vacation. She keeps the prize. After Round 4, Clay is eliminated. He opens the next prize, which is to be the squire to shine Jackie’s knight costume. Clay trades with Vanessa for the Ireland vacation. After Round 5, James wins. Becky opens the next prize, which is $5,000. She decides to keep it. James opens the last prize, which is to complete a swordsman routine 2,400 times in under 24 hours. He trades it with Shelli. James wins the Power of Veto. Clay and Shelli are understandably crestfallen since one of them will likely be evicted this week.
After the Veto competition, Clay and Shelli comfort each other. After she goes to the diary room, Meg drunkenly goes up to Clay and she has her hands all over him. He asks her to vote him out instead of Shelli, and she refuses. She starts crying as she tells Clay she believes in him and wants him to stay. After that awkward scene, we see Shelli, Jackie, and Vanessa having to endure the punishments they won at Veto competition. Shelli’s task is very difficult, but the entire house cheers for her when she completes it in time.
Clay and Shelli begin their campaign to stay in the house. They go upstairs to try to sway James to use the Power of Veto. James tells them in order for him to use the Veto, he needs good information. Shelli then throws Austin under the bus. She tells him about Austin’s alter-ego Judas and how Austin was the one who voted to keep Audrey. James will tell them he’ll think about using the Veto after hearing about this.
At the Veto Ceremony, Clay and Shelli give their last pleas to stay in the house. Clay stands up and just expresses to Shelli how much she means to him. Shelli’s plea is that she doesn’t think she or Clay deserve to be in this position. James decided not to use the Power of Veto. In the diary room, Shelli is in tears and doesn’t want to have to campaign against Clay even though she wants to stay in the house. Clay says he wants to compete, but he believes Shelli has a better chance at winning the game than he does.
And that wraps up tonight’s episode of Big Brother 17. Thanks for reading and come back tomorrow night for the live eviction.
