Big Brother 15: Kaitlin Barnaby Insists Her Remarks Were Not Racist

Kaitlin Barnaby wasn’t as nasty as her fellow “mean girls” in the Big Brother house, but she called gay people “untrustworthy” and taunted Candice in the infamous “bed fight” about her “black side.”  So now that she’s out of the house–evicted unanimously last night–what does she say about the racism of her cohort, Gina Marie and Aaryn? And how does she defend herself? Read on.

On the “mean girls” racist remarks:

“There were parts of that that I was unaware of and I was shocked that that’s even in Aaryn and GinaMarie’s personalities. To my comment, Candice was always joking around that she had a ‘white side’ and a ‘black side’ to her because she’s mixed [race]. The night she was getting upset, that’s the only reason I said that. It was not derogatory in any way. Candice and I are on great terms. It was definitely inappropriate on Aaryn and GinaMarie’s behalf, I’m not defending them at all. There were definitely times when I told them to put that to bed, but then there are other times when you just kind of awkwardly laugh through it. I was definitely guilty by association.”

On why she didn’t speak up:

“Aaryn was definitely the leader of our wolf pack, how much could I really yell at her? I think she knows she’s in the wrong and she’s definitely upset about it.”

Others made homophobic and misogynist remarks. Do they deserve as much attention as the racism?

“Probably not as much as the racism, but it’s definitely not the best terms to be using. I know that the f-word towards gay people was used multiple times and I yelled at people. I also yelled at people using the r-word for mentally challenged people because it’s ridiculous. I told them is this really the way you want to be on national TV? It was very inappropriate. I think Spencer — I don’t know if it necessarily had anything to do with the way he was raised or if he’s from the South — but I think he needed a bit of a muzzle when he talked”

On Spencer

“He is a very interesting and untrustworthy person, that’s all I’ll say.”

Eh. If you counted them up, Kaitlin didn’t make as many nasty remarks as Aylyn or GinaMarie, but she was still really mean and catty. There was a reason she was drawn to those two. Birds of a feather and all.

Also, any remark that belittles a group of people is horrible. One is no worse than the other.  Kaitlin is ridiculous. And dissembling. And not owning up to her own bad behavior. But it’s not surprising. Such an unlikeable bunch of people living in that house.
