This year’s season of the Bachelorette casted its first ever black contestant, Rachel Lindsay, along with a more “diverse” pool of suitors than in the past. And if ABC considers “racist” a component of diversity, well then that explains why they cast Lee Garrett of Nashville. (not to mention “transphobic”, Bryce Powers as well)
The 31 year old singer-songwriter is under fire after a trove of racist and homophobic tweets he allegedly made railing against feminists, the Black Lives Matter movement, Islam, the LGBT community, the NAACP and liberals in general.
Garrett’s twitter account, the bio of which describes him as “pleasantly offensive” and “facetious,” has since been set to private. The tweets were supposedly posted in 2015 and 2016 and have been collected in a series of screenshots online.
Spokespersons for ABC and production company Warner Horizon Television both declined to comment on the controversy.
Gotta love how @BacheloretteABC casts Lee…wonder how @TheRachLindsay feels about it? #TheBachelorette pic.twitter.com/RX6lkGpgyB

OK then. It’s hard to believe that potential contestants’ social media aren’t thoroughly vetted by the network before casting decisions are made. Which is why I’m leaning towards the opinion of the OP who discovered the tweets–that maybe ABC knowingly cast a bigot in order to stir up some drama in the storyline.
