Well…this is kind of weird! With America’s Got Talent auditions heading for the finish line (Live shows begin Aug 9), AGT may be saving some of the oddest acts for last.

Case in point. Freckled Zelda enters the stage like a joke act, but exits in tears of triumph, with 4 yeses from the judges. This, despite “Zelda” insisting that she’s a “music fairy” and will never ever change the way she presents herself. She’s from the freckled forest!

Zelda sings and plays an odd looking instrument called an “ocarina.” Sofia Vergara compares it to a heart, but Zelda compares it to a potato, adding “It’s also known as a sweet potato flute.”

“Well…you’re interesting,” notes Simon Cowell.

After introducing her performance on the flute, she sings “Colors of the Wind” from Disney’s Pocahontas. She’s not a terrible singer, and she’s very earnest. As ridiculous as the bit seems on the surface, she really sells it. The judges find her hard to deny. Zelda is in tears by the end.

But Zelda had to prove herself first. When the pointy-eared lass walked out, Simon assumed that her act would be terrible. “But actually,” he says, “You’ve got a really good voice.” He thinks she should ditch the potato flute, but suggests she “carry on looking like that if you want because you’re interesting.”

“Yes. I’m 100% fairy…fairy for the rest of my life!”

Sofia asks if she’ll always sing wearing the outfit, and Zelda insists, “Yes. I’m 100% fairy…fairy for the rest of my life!” OK then.

“You nailed that. I loved it,” says Heidi Klum “You have an amazing voice. I thought the potato flute was really cool too.” She points out that AGT is a variety show and “we don’t all have to be the same.”

Howie Mandel starts off giving Zelda her first yes.  Four yeses for Freckled Zelda. FAIRIES FOREVER. America’s Got Talent airs on NBC on Tuesday at 8 pm ET/PT.
