America’s Got Talent Qualifiers came to an end with week 5. The final 11 acts performed, and while several acts were finale worthy, only two acts will advance to next week’s finale. (Read our Recap).
Every week, our polls predict who is advancing to the next round. It’s an unfortunate consequence of the new AGT format. Fifty-five acts perform for a second time, but only 11 acts will make it through. This week will be particularly rough, as Kristen Cruz, Max Ostler, Kristy Sellars, urbancrew, Aubrey Burchell, Shu Takada and Mayyas would all make worthy finalists!
Also, the Instant Vote for the 11th finalist will take place during Wednesday’s results show. Does that meant that no acts from Week 5 will be eligible for the Wildcard? Each of the judges will choose one act for America to vote through. If so, the gimmick isn’t well thought out. Wouldn’t an overnight vote be more equitable? Yes, but it wouldn’t be as exciting.
I’ve been re-watching American Idol season 1, and it’s amazing how Simon’s judges style has morphed over the years. Now that bullying and cruelty is out of fashion, Simon wants viewers to like him. But apparently, Howie Mandel doesn’t care, because he’s now the mean judge. He buzzes children, makes cruel jokes about acts that aren’t even on the stage. His unnecessary bluntness is ill-informed and cringe-inducing. He needs to take a seat.
Only TWO acts will advance on Wednesdays to the final performance episode, based on America’s vote. The judges will choose 4 wildcards for America to vote through an 11th finalist.
