Tonight’s the night! The $1 million winner of America’s Got Talent 2017 will be revealed. Who will it be? Diavolo, Mandy Harvey, Kechi, Angelica Hale, Light Balance, Preacher Lawson, Darci Lynne, Sara and Hero, Chase Goehring, or Evie Clair.
The work of judges Simon Cowell, Mel B., Heidi Klum and Howie Mandel is done. All that’s left is sitting back and watching appearances from Kelly Clarkson, Shania Twain, Derek Hough, James Arthur, Kevin Nealon, Jeff Dunham and Season Two winner Terry Fator, introduced by host Tyra Banks.
Kelly is singing with Kechi and Angelica Hale according to twitter.
Tyra announces that the show had the BIGGEST VOTE IN AGT HISTORY. Simon calls the prior night’s performances “really really incredible.” Any of the acts deserve to win. And…it’s time for a recap of last night’s performances. So, Simon gives each of the acts a pep talk before/after their performance? How nice. Simon is just so….nice.
First time wasting clip features the judges “dishing the dirt” on each other. Zzzz. After a commercial break, it’s one last trip to the “Dunkin Lounge.” PRODUCT PLACEMENT. Nearly twenty minutes into the finale! And here we are.
First up it’s Kechi and Angelic Hale performing Kelly Clarkson’s “Stronger” and of course, the American Idol OG winner joins them on stage. OH HELL YEAH.
Next, Kelly goes solo to blaze through her new single “Love So Soft.” FIERCE. Tyra asks Kelly for advice. She says they should be happy, because they got as far on the show as they could–whether they win or not.
Next, Diavlo and Light Balance perform a mashup of their performances. The former reprises the routine set to Harry Styles “Sign of the Times.”
Light Balance performs their “24K Magic.” Derek Hough drops in next…not sure why? Just to chat with Tyra, I guess. ETA: He performed with Light Balance!
The next video clip features Tyra and a bunch of the joke contestants. It’s Pumpkin head dude. There’s choreographed dancing to “Nothing’s Gonna to Stop Us Now” by Starship. And a bunch of smizing. They keytard dude makes an appearance.
NEXT…it’s a sneak peek at this summer’s “My Little Pony” movie. Bronies unite. Or don’t. On second thought…nevermind. Fun fact: Sia sings the theme song.
The next video clip features Sara working with the judges’ doggos. Cute! Simon’s Squiddly and Diddly. Howie has a bulldog. Mel B has some Frenchies. So cute.
Deaf actress, Marlee Matlin signs an introduction for a duet by Mandy Harvey and Shania Twain. Mandy sings and signs her part, while Shania harmonizes. Hm. The harmonies are off. I bet Mandy isn’t used to harmonizing with others.
After, Shania takes the stage solo to perform her latest single, “Life’s About to Get Good.” She’s got a stage full of backup dancers. Dudes in pastel colored jackets and shorts? And white tennis shoes. Super cheesy. And not in a good way.
Next clips: What do the judges find annoying about Heidi? She has lots of fashion advice. Also, Simon feeds the audience tangerines.
Next, Darci Lynn is joined in her dressing room by fellow ventriloquist, Jeff Dunham. He shares how he got started in the business. He has his grumpy puppet Walter with him. Next, Darci Lynne and her puppet Petunia is joined by AGT 2 winner Terry Fator. He brings his frog Winston. They make jokes at Simon’s expense before the puppets launch into a performance of the Broadway song “Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better.” Darci misses her first cue, but recovers nicely. It’s a cute bit.
After, it’s a little sneak peek of The Voice season 13. We’ve seen these clips before. Jennifer Hudson throwing shoes, etc.
The next clip features Howie Mandel reminiscing about his days as a young comic in Hollywood. He drops in on Preacher’s gig and backstage they chat about comedy. SNL comic Kevin Nealon joins them.
Evie Clair takes the stage to perform an original song called “It’s Going to Be an OK Day.” She introduces X Factor alum James Arthur who joins her. On her original song. Interesting. Then, James performs his hit “Say You Won’t Let Go” Chase Goehring joins him. It’s Chase’s first performance of a cover.
Another clip! It’s the judges and Tyra playing “AGT Trivia.” Zzzzz. C’MON RESULTS. We want some now.
After the break, Simon insists Tyra hand him the microphone in order to introduce a clip of Tyra’s best moments. What best moments? She’s the weakest link in the show right now. But after a season of incredible ratings, Simon won’t change the lineup if he can help it. Apparently she’s really great at consoling contestants backstage.
NO MORE CLIPS PLEASE. Next, the Top 10 share what they gained from their America’s Got Talent journeys. BLAH BLAH BLAH.
FINALLY. After the break. The first results. Five acts will be eliminated.
250 million votes last night, says Tyra!
The acts are on stage. Mandy Harvey and Chase Goehring step forward. The act taking the first spot in the Top 5 is…Mandy Harvey. Next, Evie Clair and Sarah & Hero step forward. What’s that booing? Weird. The act taking the second spot in the Top 5 is…Sarah and Hero. What the hell?. Really? That act didn’t deserve a spot in the Top 10–certainly not the Top 5. Evie is eliminated.
Diavolo and Light Balance step forward next. America has voted. The act taking the 3rd spot in the Top 5 is Light Balance. Preacher Lawson and Darci Lynne step forward. Preacher’s gotta know he’s toast. The act taking the 4th spot in the Top 5 is Darci Lynne. Lastly, Angelica Hale and Kechi step forward. America has voted. Angelica Hale takes the last spot in the Top 5. Both Angelica and Darci are sobbing. Top 3 revealed after the break.
The Act Finishing in Fifth place is…Sara & Hero. The act leaving in 4th place is…Mandy Harvey. Oh. There’s some booing. The act finishing in 3rd place is…Light Balance. The winner will be revealed after the break.
Time to reveal the winner. But first, clips of the Top 2’s journeys. Darci is crying her eyes out. And the winner of 1 million dollars and starring in the Vegas show is…….Darci Lynne!!!
Darci Lynne was expected to win. I knew the little dark horse, Angelica, would finish in the Top 5. But second place? And that’s with very little pimping from the judges. I expected Mandy to finish higher, but she was not at her best last night. Sara & Hero were the big surprise. I expected them to finish last. Ha. I can’t believe they beat out Evie. Speaking of Evie, hopefully she’s got a ton of support around her now that the rush of competition is over. I worry about these younguns competing on these shows. Angelica and Darci both looked like they were gonna have a meltdown as they waited for the results. Too young.
5. Sara & Hero
4. Mandy Harvey
3. Light Balance
2. Angelica Hale
1. Darci Lynne – WINNER
