American Idol Rejects America’s Got Talent Duo Mirror Image

Here’s an interesting little tidbit from the American Idol audition tour. The Idol bus stopped in Pittsburgh on Sunday (Sept 3). Among the many hopefuls auditioning for a chance to sing in front of the judges were Colton and Trent Edwards, aka “Mirror Image” from  the current season of America’s Got Talent.

The boys had only been booted from the show less than two weeks ago before trying their luck on Idol. Auditioning separately, it wasn’t meant to be. Neither made the cut.

Murrysville twins Colton and Trent Edwards, who recently reached the quarterfinals of NBC’s “America’s Got Talent” with a song-and-dance “Mirror Image” act, auditioned. Wearing matching black pants and embellished white T-shirts, they performed seperately; neither made the cut.

Maybe the boys were hopeful, considering another rejected America’s Got Talent contestant, Nick Fradiani, went on to win American Idol season 14.

However, Nick and his band Beach Avenue were presented as serious musicians on AGT, while the Edward twins, with their OTT vocals and “dance moves” survived as entertaining cannon fodder (and Simon Cowell foils) until the quarterfinals.

The twins being rejected right off the bat is a good sign that American Idol’s reboot aren’t looking for the next William Hung. Or maybe they are, and the twins just couldn’t bring the lulz as solo performers.

The American Idol audition tour continues on both coasts through September 14.
