American Idol Ratings for First Live Show Stay Steady

AMERICAN IDOL: Top 10: L-R: Judges Keith Urban, Jennifer Lopez, guest judge and Season 1 winner Kelly Clarkson, and judge Harry Connick Jr. on AMERICAN IDOL airing Thursday, Feb. 25 (8:00-10:00 PM ET/PT) on FOX. © 2016 FOX Broadcasting Co. American Idol’s ratings ticked up 1/10th from last Thursday’s edition, which is great news!

However, it was at this point in the season last year, when Idol ratings really began to tank. A huge drop–2.4 to 1.8 Thursday to Thursday between Top 12 and Top 11 week precipitated a steady decline all the way until the Top 2 final where Idol was only able to garner a measly 1.3 rating in the demo and 5 million viewers.  The Idol 14 finale, the lowest rated by far, earned a 1.8 in the 18-49 demo and 8 million viewers.

If Idol ratings do begin to tank, there are only six weeks of bad numbers to suffer through. So, there’s that.

Last night, Idol tied for 3rd in the demo with Grey’s Anatomy. CBS’ Big Bang Theory and Life in Pieces were 1st and 2nd respectively.
