American Idol Top 5 finalist from Kentucky, Noah Thompson releases an original song this week, “One Day Tonight,” along with his fellow Top 7 finalists. The song soared to No. 4 on the iTunes overall chart upon its release
The plaintive country singer didn’t let people hear his voice till he was in high school. After hearing him sing, many of his peers pushed him to join the school’s choir and participate in talent shows. The 20-year-old was working construction when his friend and co-worker Arthur signed him up for American Idol.
“I fell in love with ‘One Day Tonight’ as soon as I heard it, just by the sound of the melody,” Noah shared in a press statement. “The lyrics are beautiful, the song has so much meaning and it is also so catchy! Can’t believe I get to sing it, to be honest, it blows my mind. I hope so many people love it just like I did when I first heard it!”
“One Day Tonight” was produced by Jimmy Robbins (Maren Morris, Kelsea Ballerini, Brett Young) and written by Brett Sheroky, Jered Griffin and Trannie Anderson.
“I had so much fun”
“I have never ever in my life done anything like that,” is how Noah described recording his debut single to Billboard. “Being in the studio working in the sound booth was one of the greatest things I’ve ever done in my life. I had so much fun because I didn’t know how any of that stuff worked, so it was all new to me. It seemed surreal that I was in there working with Jimmy Robbins as my producer. He’s such a good guy. He’s a great dude with a first-rate sense of humor and we connected through the song and through music and I had a great time doing that. It was all I thought it would be. I loved it.”
The Top 3 will debut their singles on the American Idol season 20 finale airing on ABC May 22. But before that, the Top 5 will sing two songs on the Top 5 performance episode airing on Sunday May 15. Ryan Seacrest will reveal the Top 3 at the end of the episode after a nationwide vote.
