American Idol Celebrates Mustang’s 50th Anniversary, Plus Backstage Interviews (PHOTO) (Videos)

American Idol Mustang 50th Anniversary

Entertainment Weekly previews tonight’s Ford commercial, with a photo and a few details

The Ford/Idol cross-promotion is nothing new, with finalists filming spots for the car company for the past two weeks now, not to mention the previous 12 seasons. But this season’s third spot, airing Thursday night, is a special tribute to the 50th anniversary of the Ford Mustang, which was first introduced back on this day in 1964. Though we can’t reveal too many details about the specifics, let’s just say that the Idols were able to have a little fun with their outfits. “We got the dopest glasses!” contestant Sam Woolf said on set. “We don’t get to keep them, though,” Jena Irene told EW. “They are rented from this company. I’m pissed, I really want them!”

FUN! I’m glad the Ford commercials are back. Via Entertainment Weekly

BONUS: Check out these backstage interviews with the Idols. Notably absent from the post-show media scrum this season are big outfits like Access Hollywood and E News. No videos from them this season.

Plenty of smaller outlets are backstage. Check out these videos from “Totally Lexi” split into interviews between the boys and the girls. Jessica Meuse revealed that she would love to do a folk project with Malaya Watson. When asked about the duets and trios, The idols seem to believe they’re unimportant throw-away performances. Oy. Every moment you are on the Idol stage is important, kids. How are they missing that important lesson?

CJ Harris has learned not to Google himself. The message of the song “Gravity,” for CJ, is about people trying to bring him down, but he’ll just keep doing what he’s doing.

Also, there is TONS AND TONS of love for David Cook’s advice. When asked what the best advice they have received is, most of them quote something David told them during his mentoring sessions.
