Here’s an American Idol tease. The famed Hollywood Round is happening this week at the Orpheum in Los Angeles. The contestants plotted a little surprise for judge Katy Perry, after walking into the auditorium with fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie the group, standing on stage, broke out into a rendition of Katy’s new Christmas song, “Cozy Little Christmas.”
The camera pans to the stage, and dang the faces are all blurred. The stage looks pretty full, so I’m guessing the clip was filmed on Monday or Tuesday. “One of the BEST gifts of being an artist is when people joyfully sing back the lyrics that you wrote, writes Katy on Twitter. “So excited to reveal the faces of these beautiful @AmericanIdol voices…”

While the judges stay busy whittling down the ranks, mentor Bobby Bones has been on hand to give the singers audition tips and advice on handling the stress of Hell Week.
American Idol returns to ABC for season 17 on Sunday March 3.
