19 Entertainment has brought on two MTV music award vets to help produce American Idol 13
An individual with knowledge of the negotiations told TheWrap that producing pair Jesse Ignjatovic and Evan Prager are close to signing on to the music competition as the producers for 19 Entertainment.
Under their production company Den of Thieves, Ignjatovic and Prager are well versed in creating big televised music events.
No strangers to reboots, the duo took over production of the MTV Movie Awards last year, edging out “The Voice” producer Mark Burnett. They have also produced MTV’s Video Music Awards, VH1’s “Divas” concert and the CMT Music Awards.
The Den of Thieves duo will join Swedish Idol producer, Pers Blankens, sports producer David Hill (who will oversee production in place of the departing reality chief, Mike Darnell and former Freemantle, COO, Donna Redier Linsk, will help bring production up to speed through the end of the year.
Longtime executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Ken Warwick have been fired. Also expect some MAJOR shakeups on the judges panel. Randy Jackson, Nicki Minaj and Mariah Carey have all announced their departures. Only Keith Urban remains as a possibility for next season.
So, does that mean American Idol will turn on the glitz and glam this January? Can we expect bigger, showier production values on the Idol stage? What do you think?
