American Idol 9 Top 9 Redux – Power List

My powerlist for the Season 9, Top 9 redux, after the jump!  I keep Crystal Bowersox in first place, with a caveat, Mike Lynch takes a hit,   things are looking up for Katie Stevens and Lee DeWyze and Casey James have juice.

How do you rate the Idols this week?

My list after the JUMP…

  1. Crystal Bowersox – Despite stumbling on her words a little, Crystal had a great performance, and has plenty of juice to keep her in the #1 spot. However, as a woman who speaks her mind, and doesn’t suffer fools gladly, she’s got to be careful not to appear ungrateful, bratty or entitled to voters.  Snitting at a-hole gossip columnists, shouting out to controversial websites and looking sullen on camera could turn off potential voters. It sucks, but that’s how Idol rolls.
  2. Casey James – I said last week that Casey had to have a breakout moment in order to move out of the middle pack, and he had it with his emotional rendering of John Lennon’s “Jealous Guy” last week.  If the dude keeps it up, he could be a contender.
  3. Lee DeWyze – Lee’s take on “Hey Jude” last week was a little pitchy and a little crazy, but the ballsy move–and his unapologetic owning of the decision when Simon asked–gave this unassuming contestant some sorely needed swagger.  Lee is headed in the right direction.
  4. Katie Stevens – Katie finally broke through last week when she sang “Let it Be” with palpable emotion. When she’s singing in tune, girl’s got pipes. Could a Diana DeGarmo like resurgence be around the corner? (Diana was constantly in danger of being voted off, until she made a comeback Barry Manilow week, and eventually finished 2nd)
  5. Siobhan Magnus – Siobhan seems to be really confused about what she needs to do right now.  She’s either going to get it together and break out, or not.  I think she’s OK for the time being, but could be a surprise boot in the next couple of weeks if things don’t turn around.
  6. Tim Urban – Oh. Timmie isn’t going anywhere, especially if he continues to trade in on his teen idol image. If he goes young elvis this week, he’ll be golden.
  7. Mike Lynch – Mike was saved, but took a huge hit in the process. I think there will be a few peeps who will throw Mike a few votes this week to keep him in it, but unless something changes, I expect him to go out next week or the week after.
  8. Aaron Kelly – Aaron’s performance was really weak last week.  If he doesn’t step it up this week, he could be out the door.  Aaron should grab on to that young country star mantle, and run with it. Picking big songs like “The Long and Winding Road” isn’t going to do it for him.
  9. Andrew Garcia – Andrew’s continual safety proves he’s got a mighty fanbase, but I doubt he’s picking up new fans along the way. Eventually, as others fall away, his number is going to come up. I expect that to happen within the next few weeks.
