American Idol 2018 Spoilers Top 24 Contestant List

A twitter follower forwarded this screen shot of an American Idol casting notice to me:

To recap: Each of the Top 24 will perform a solo and a duet with a mystery celebrity. The performances, in front of the judges Lionel Richie, Katy Perry and Luke Bryan, will determine which contestants make it into the TOP 14.

Here’s the schedule:

Friday March 2 – Contestant Solo Performance – 3 pm
Friday March 2 – Contestant Duet Performance – 6:30 PM
Saturday March 3 – Contestant Solo Performance – 3:00 PM
Saturday March 3 – Contestant Duet Performance – 6:30 PM

Last season, the Top 24 solos and duets were taped about a week before they aired.  Will we actually have Top 12 spoilers before the season even begins? Because the performances will be taped in front of a studio audience, there will be song and celebrity spoilers. So get ready.

From everything I’ve seen so far, Disney/ABC is really attempting to young up the show. From the relative youth of the contestants (I just saw a screener of the premiere and there ARE SO MANY TEENS) to casting the audiences with young people. With so many youth-oriented brands under their umbrella (including the label, Hollywood Records, that will sign the winner), it makes sense that the network would keep things youth oriented. But does Disney run the risk of alienating American Idol’s loyal fan base which tends to skew older? Hm.

UPDATE: On Camera Audiences got a whiff of my snark (heh) and tweeted a clarification to me. “The age limit for the live shows have not changed,” the tweet reads, “and is the same as before. For this special taping you’re referring to, it’s a one time special that requires a casted audience.”

UPDATED: Edited to reflect that the Top 24 performed for a spot in the Top 14, not the Top 12 as previously reported.
