Only a few weeks ago, Olivia Rox was a front runner, seemed beloved by TPTB and now she’s gone. The critique of her performance was roundly negative–a sign she was a goner. To be fair, out of the three save me performances Avalon Young’s was the best. Heck, hers was one of the best of the night. She deserved to stay. But it was so disheartening to see 3 females in the bottom 3. Lee Jean is skating by on his cute boy looks but that’s the way it always goes. Tristan McIntosh shined again once she got behind the piano, but she doesn’t have Olivia’s maturity, experience or versatility. I think Olivia has performed better overall than Sonika Vaid has.
As far as Gianna Isabelle is concerned. Sweet kid, but she was in way over her head. I hope mom doesn’t take it too hard. I suspect she’ll be more upset about the elimination than Gianna.
The light up chairs are gone, but it’s a small consolation when the performers are back to waiting for their names to be called to sing. Why not reveal the Top 3 at the beginning of the show and have them perform at the end? That allows the safe singers, at least, to relax and not worry about elimination on top of singing live for votes.
I thought the performances were better overall last week, but there were some good ones. The best performances were La’Porsha’s Halo and Avalon’s “Earned It.” Olivia Rox delivered a supburb vocal, and the judges were unfair to say it lacked substance. She performed a fun pop song, and did it well. Tristan gets an honorable mention for finding her way back to the thing she does best. All of the boys performances were flawed in one way or another tonight.
