The first two American Idol 13 audition stops in Salt Lake City and San Francisco reportedly had lower turnouts than usual, but it appears that Idol fans came out in full force the Detroit stop at Ford Field on Sunday.
8,000 turned out for a shot at being the next American Idol, and producer, Pat Lynn, couldn’t have been happier with the enthusiasm of Motor City hopefuls:
“You have to believe that you’re going to win it, and that’s why we come to places like Detroit: That attitude is everything,” Lynn said. “There are 8,000 driven singers (here) and they all want one thing, and that’s to get inside.”
Host Ryan Seacrest arrived at around 8 am to film segments with the crowd, and he enthused:
“We’ve seen a large crowd this morning, one of the best crowds we’ve seen in a long time. So that’s encouraging. I was up (on the lift), and as far back as I could see it was heads, faces, anxious contestants. There’s a lot of musical history that comes out of Detroit. We hope to continue to capitalize on that and find somebody that hopefully makes it to the final rounds. There’s gotta be somebody good in that big group.”
Next, American Idol auditions heads to Atlanta on Friday, Boston on Aug. 2, Austin on Aug. 7, then winds up in Omaha on Aug. 11.
