American Idol 11: 9, 000 Turn Out to Audition in San Diego

American Idol 11 cattle call auditions took place at Petco Park in San Diego today.

An estimated 9, 000 hopefuls showed up to audition today, which is actually 3, 000 less than in 2007, when 12, 000 people auditioned at Qualcomm stadium.

I wonder if the glut of competition singing shows is affecting the turnout? Idol is now competing with the X Factor and The Voice–two new shows that are undoubtedly pulling from the same contestant pool as Idol.

Watch a FOX 5 news report about today’s auditions below. And check out San Diego auditioner @blkeener’s timeline. She kept us all appraised of her adventures today in Idol land. Sadly, Brittany did not make it to the next round. There’s always next year!
