American Idol 10 Top 4 – Recap Roundup!

‘American Idol’ Elimination Night: What You Didn’t See on Thursday’s Show

It was an extra teary Thursday night in the Idol-dome for James Durbin, who came so close to the crown, only to be denied entry to the Top 3 after singing his heart out. That’s the way it goes on American Idol. How Ryan Seacrest can stomach it week in week out is beyond me. What didn’t you see on Thursday’s elimination? Plenty. Read on for the off-camera scoop.

Live at American Idol: Did James’ Elimination Bring Scotty to Tears?

After Ryan Seacrest announced that Scotty was the final member of the top three, James couldn’t stand still to watch his farewell video package. He was walking in circles, jumping up and down and even walked close to the large video screen onstage when his fiancée, Heidi, and their son, Hunter, were shown. James sang his final song, during which Haley turned to Scotty and said “I’m gonna cry.”

After the cameras turned off, James was immediately surrounded by the contestants and judges. James and Scotty shared and extra-long hug and Scotty pulled away crying. He looked, dare we say, guilty that he had made it to the final three and James had not.

‘American Idol’: James goes home and the Idoldome mourns, on the scene for Top 4 results night

Jennifer Lopez is still not wrong If I had any lingering doubt that Haley wasn’t going to make it to the Top 3, it was obliterated watching the Wednesday recap back at the top of the show: The loudest and longest cheers were reserved for whenever the bluesy spitfire appeared on the screen. But Ms. Lopez would still not be deterred. Much like when it happened the first time on Wednesday night, after the clip of Steven announcing, “THEY’RE BOTH WRONG, ” J.Lo just could not help herself, turning to Steven with joking-but-not-really stank lips and announcing to him, “No, we weren’t wrong.”

American Idol Recap: Precious Mettle

No matter which contestant ended up going home, Thursday night’s American Idol Top 4 results show was destined to be a tough one. Not since Season 5 — when Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee, Elliott Yamin, and Chris Daughtry were the last singers standing — has an Idol competition boiled down to such a closely matched quartet. And that’s why there’s no shame in James Durbin’s somewhat surprising exit, especially considering Idol tallied some 72 million votes this week — a record for a Top 4 telecast.

‘American Idol’ Results: James Durbin Sent Home in Elimination-Night Shocker

James, who performed “Don’t Stop Believin'” and “Love Potion No. 9” under Lady Gaga’s tutelage on Wednesday night’s episode, appeared stunned when host Ryan Seacrest revealed that Scotty was safe and that the rocker was eliminated. After watching a retrospective of his Idol run, James proclaimed, “I did so much stuff that has never been done of this show before, ” while Jennifer Lopez was shown crying at the judges table.

The sad news for Durbin fans arrived after Lauren and Haley were announced to be safe, marking the fifth straight week in which a male singer was booted from the competition.

‘American Idol’ recap: Tail of Tears

James Durbin may not have been vocally consistent as of late, but I don’t think many American Idol fans expected season 10’s only tailed creature to head home on last night’s Final Four results show. I didn’t. The PopWatchers didn’t. Certainly J. Lo didn’t, her glossy pink puffer fish lips wiggling gently in stunned silence. And the Durbs himself definitely didn’t fancy himself a loser. “God, ” said James in disbelief, “I did so much stuff that’s never been done on this show before. In my eyes, in my mind, I did what I came here to do. Gave metal a chance.”

James Durbin Sent Home In ‘American Idol’ Shocker

This part of the “American Idol” season is full of stress and nerves. In theory, we’re down to the four very best contestants, picked from more than 100, 000 wannabes, and it’s painful to see any of them go. But the awkward tension following the judges’ Haley Reinhart pile-on Wednesday night made Thursday night’s (May 12) results show even more intense.

Clearly fans were invested in supporting their favorites, because, according to host Ryan Seacrest, more than 72 million votes were cast Wednesday, the highest top-four total ever. And America obviously still loves an underdog, because even after openly sneering at the judges and putting on both the worst and best performances of the night, Reinhart growled her way from certain oblivion into the top three while rocker-with-a-heart-of-gold James Durbin went down in a blaze of glory.

‘American Idol’ 2011: Judges’ fave James Durbin out

Tonight on “American Idol, ” the herd of Idolettes will be culled to three. It’s an awesome judge fashion night: Jennifer Lopez has grown green scales, Steven Tyler is the victim of wild-posting, and Randy’s shirt looks to have big bubbles silk-screened on the front – let’s just say it’s not a slimming look for a guy with middle-aged spread.

American Idol Sends James Durbin Packing

Raise your hand if, five weeks ago, you thought that the American Idol top three would be two-thirds female. Hell, raise it if you thought there would be a woman contestant remaining at this point at all. And yet that’s the case thanks to James Durbin’s elimination tonight; Lauren Alaina, Scotty McCreery, and Haley Reinhart are the last singers standing while James, he of the constant proclamations of his metal ‘tude and his not-quite-there vocals and his overall realy annoying attitude, is left to appear on the finale in some sort of runner-up position that he’ll probably ham up anyway.

American Idol Recap: Paul F. Tompkins on Enrique, Jordin, and Another Tear-Stained Elimination

The show opens with … clips from last night. I’m willing to say right here and now that this serves no one. Who is just tuning into American Idol? And did these clips help? “Okay, I think I got it. I saw six seconds of four strangers performing songs. That’s all I need to be 100 percent emotionally invested in whatever decisions are made this evening. Thank God for those clips.”
