  1. She performed Just Like Me also, but I don’t have a link. Agree that is was totally fantastic!

  2. Stunning, stunning, gorgeous, so full of energy yet so soulful. I’m really hoping for some great things for her, she’s just so good.

  3. Love Allison. She will do great, all it takes is a little promotion.

  4. She’s amazing.

Love the song and love her even more singing acoustic!

  5. You can’t put a dollar figure on that voice.
    Excellent.

I wonder what song she played the guitar with?

  6. I wonder what song she played the guitar with?

Just like you, it’s the other song she’s been playing in these radio stops.

  7. Wow. That’s incredible. I do wonder about marketing her talent at this age. Her target audience is college and above, not young teens.

  8. THIS is why we fell in love with her. Just incredible. Nobody can touch her.

Oh, hey mj, the album is Just Like You, not Just Like Me, haha!

  9. She needs to enunciate.

Why? That’s her style, plus, I understood her just fine.

  10. allison just may turn out to the the dark horse winner in the s8 sweepstakes, hahaha… this young lady, in the words of simon cowell, ”has got it”… dynamite vocals, and lotsa time on her side to continue growing… there’s real talent here that needs to be nurtured, and i hope jive gives her what she needs in support to get her music heard… yep, best keep your eye on allison….

  11. That young lady is sensational. I hope Jive shows patience and nurtures her talents.

  12. Allison…amazing, so talented, can’t wait to see where her career takes her!!

  13. Love it love it love it

She needs to release an acoustic album, and Jive needs to stop screwing with her unbelievable voice (to wit: FIBOU). Oh, and I heard her just fine. I didn’t so much on the tour, but here? Absolutely.

  14. That young lady is sensational. I hope Jive shows patience and nurtures her talents.

Amen! Stick with her, label! She’s terrific and just starting out!

  15. Another video from today, same song but just sitting in front of the station’s microphone:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VLIoj6Up0GA

She needs to release an acoustic album, and Jive needs to stop screwing with her unbelievable voice

Luckily, it seems like that’s one of the few tracks in which she doesn’t sound like her. Judging from the song previews, there’s a lot of THE VOICE in her album.

  16. Wow, amazing. Her acoustic versions are so good, I wonder if I’ll be disappointed with the CD versions? (Doubt it!)

  17. Fabulous! Wow, she is amazing, I love her natural voice. They song is killer, too. All my best wishes for Allison to have a wonderful career. She’s got the chops, now we just need the radio stations to give her a chance and play the bejeebus out of her songs. They’ll be no holding her back, then! I’m doing my part and have pre-ordered her deluxe album. From teh sounds of this song, I won’t be wasting my money. Go, Allison!

  18. OMA ALLISON F$&KING IRAHETA WAS LESS THAN AN HOUR AWAY FROM ME!!!!! I FLOVE HER!!!!!!!

    *dies*

ok,idk how this works so hiw does it get played? is it only on the station website? will it only be played once;when)? or will it get played multiple times?!!

  19. She needs to enunciate.

Maybe she should get the braces put back on! :-P

PRMari, I think we should just give it up — some people are just never going to get her.

  20. Dang, girl can sang alright! I love it! I think I am going to love her album the most out of Season 8. Her voice is just powerful and distinctive, you go girl!

  21. I prefer this much better to her single. Love Allison’s voice when it is more stripped back rather than ‘shouting” over the music!! I hope Jive also give her a chance to develop & mature & give the album & singles a chance to make it in the long run!!

  22. Damn! I like this girl more and more. I mean, I’ve loved her since “Alone” on Idol, which gave me goosebumps, but I’m loving these acoustic releases of her songs. Really can’t wait for her CD now. Love the guitarist rockin’ the Adam look.

  23. did her album stream today as planned?. i am dying to hear the full version of scars.

  24. If google maps is correct, that f**ing station is literally 20 minutes from my f***ing home!!!
I don’t listen to that station though. I will from now on, that’s for sure.

  25. did her album stream today as planned?. i am dying to hear the full version of scars.

Her album wasn’t supposed to stream today, her video was supposed to premiere today and it did, last night.

Love the guitarist rockin’ the Adam look.

Don’t you mean the Kate Gosselin look?

  26. Amazing. Now compare that with the 30-second snippet of the same song on iTunes. It’s a crime what these pop “producers” do to a fantastic, natural talent like Allsion. When’s her acoustic EP coming out? *sigh*

  27. Amazing! Allison is a very talented young woman, and I hope that she has great success with her album. I wasn’t fond of the snippets, (though I really, really want to like the album), but I totally loved the acoustic version that she did here. There is a big future ahead for Allison!

  28. She sang this one better than the other song she did “Just like You”. she was off key on that one. This one sounds good though.

  29. She’s very good. I will have fun looking her progress artistically in the upcoming years :)

  30. Enunciation there are artists out there that do just fine with that problem even thought understanding would be nice..

Imo Allison looks like a 16 year old the problem with that is she has mature raspy vocals emulate from her that causes a double take..Her looks and age you know the lable is thinking teen/tween pop queen but her raspy vocals more than that…So yes the label watering down those raspy vocals will be a shame..An acoustic CD would be great ..

  31. That was a great performance and I hope we hear more of Allison on hot 99.5.

I personnally have my doubts – this station seems to have about the shortest playlist known to man and if you turn them on and it’s not Britney, Taylor, or Lady GaGa, you should check to see if you are on the right station. Seriously, it is almost funny. Once I heard “3” twice in one hour. They added Kris’ LLWD and Adam’s FYE for about 5 minutes ( I don’t see them anymore on the playlist), but I NEVER heard either of them on air. I dial in during my commute to work and back, so probably a couple of hours per day. I’ll keep listening and glad they at least showcased Allison, and she sounded terrific!

  32. WOW!
I didn`t think i could love Allison anymore than I did!!

    But I do!!

    AWESOME!

  33. Wow, seriously. This was one of my favorite songs from the snippets and the acoustic version is different but equally as good. I love the vocal and I love the *rhythm* — love that she and the guitar player are obviously in sync and hearing the same beats. Gives me very happy thoughts about how the band might develop.

Plus, she and her music are finally out and about! Yay, Allison!

  34. I really love this. I’ll be buying this track. I can’t wait to hear the full album.

Very gritty. I wish I could remember what song and artist this reminds me of.

  35. unique28v: She sang this one better than the other song she did ‘Just like You’ . she was off key on that one.

    No she wasn’t.

  36. Absolutely incredible. Gave me chills. An amazing talent she has. I’m glad she’s doing things like this so people can hear her unvarnished.

I have never noticed an enunciation problem, ever, not on the show and not now. So I guess her enunciation is fine for me.

She doesn’t really remind me of anyone else, she has her own sound. I mean I hear a little of Janis Joplin, a little of Kelly Clarkson, a little of Pink, a little of Heart, but just as they are each distinct, so is she. She’s definitely of their calibre though, I think she’s right up there with them and with Patsy Cline, Aretha Franklin, Bonnie Rait, they are each different but all powerful female singers, and Allison will be one of them I believe. Check back 20 years from now. Someday the label will let her talent shine through, meanwhile it sucks what they do to talent nowadays, with their oversized egos run amock in the recording studio. Instead of letting us hear the singer, they want us to hear *them* and their *incredible prowess* with tweaking and twisting and distorting the singer. Fools.

But I can’t wait to hear the cd! I am sure that FIBOU is the most heavily processed and of course that’s what they pick for the first single. It’s okay, it’s catchy, I don’t hate it, but there’s so much more to her. Now she just needs to “catch on” and be heard, needs to get some buzz going and some radio play, it can’t happen too soon for me.

unique28v: She sang this one better than the other song she did ‘Just like You’ . she was off key on that one.
    No she wasn’t.

JohnM, as always, is correct. I think you are mistaking a difference in equipment (mics, electronics, etc) and mixing for what you find less pleasing in the sound. What about it JohnM?

  38. ok that was good but I wouldn’t classify it as “stunning”. I like it much better than FIBOU.

  39. Considering this was performed in a radio station studio, I’d call it stunning for several reasons; the biggest reason: I was stunned.

  40. LOL I was stunned too, ppwars. stunning is a personal response and we are all stunned by different things.

I didn’t find the other song out of tune and I honestly don’t think Allison sings out of tune, like most good singers she has a good ear. That song, the guitar was louder than her voice for the first half of the song, then it changed.

I like both songs, the lyrics are interesting. Don’t Waste the Pretty sounds like a good message for girls to hear, but I have to hear all the lyrics to really know.

I’m tweeting this link to lots of people, hope all her fans do the same. People should hear this … she’s amazing.

  41. Just wonderful!

This girl is just exciting me so much. I hope she is given a real chance because she really is just that awesome. I can’t wait to hear the whole album!

  42. TwigLA
Very gritty. I wish I could remember what song and artist this reminds me of.

This song has a bit of the melody of “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield in the pre-chorus. For some reason, the soulful improvisation (for example, between the 3:40 and 4:00 marks) reminded me of the Black Crows “She Talks To Angels”, which is odd. I will not be offended by “are you out of your mind” responses.

  43. To me she’s the winner from the last season. no diss to anyone else, i just think she’s really good

  44. Hot99.5’s playlist: 80% rhythmic/hip hop, the other 20% split between Gaga, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Britney.

Offtopic, the funny thing is that I work in the same building as their studio. ClearChannel runs at least half a dozen stations out of the same office suite: this one, a country station, a HotAC, a sportstalk, an oldies…

  45. Wow, that was really beautiful. I really wasn’t into “Friday” – too poppy for me but this totally reminds me why I liked her on the show. Very very cool. I liked her demeanor and look also. And speaking of pretty – the guitarist – yum. Nice goin Ally. Great song too.

  46. LoveDaRocker –

your’e not crazy. I think she would be great doing an updated Black Crowes thing – she definitely had that vibe here. Nice.

  47. THAT is exactly why Allison was my favorite! She’s freaking amazing, and I can’t wait for her album! :)

  48. NewAIFan_S8
Hot99.5’s playlist: 80% rhythmic/hip hop, the other 20% split between Gaga, Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Britney.

I tried it on my way home and didn’t like it. Also, I don’t think that’s the kind of station where Allison would be played. I listen to 94.7 Fresh FM and I think Allison’s music will probably fit better there.

  49. larchcat
your’e not crazy. I think she would be great doing an updated Black Crowes thing ‘“ she definitely had that vibe here. Nice.

Agree. Since Allison is covering Dilana’s Holiday in the Album, I was checking Dilana, and found that she had an acoustic cover of “She Talks To Angels”. I think Allison would be amazing on a soulful slow rocker like that.

  50. She sounds fantastic!! Out of all the females to ever be on Idol, she’s tied (with Kelly) for my favorite voices. Absolutely wonderful, she’s so talented.

  51. Yeah – her and Kelly are my favs for the ladies too. I really hope her career takes off in 2010………3rd place on Idol hasn’t been all that great in the past – time to change that!

  52. Wow. She’s really GOOD on this song. I hope her career takes off also, am quite impressed with the young lady!

  53. I really like the song, but she sounds like she needs a throat lozenge. Just not my cuppa.

  54. 3rd place on Idol hasn’t been all that great in the past ‘“ time to change that!

LOL. Allison came in 4th, not 3rd. (Poor Gokey, he gets no respect!)

  55. Wow, Allison sounds great, but I’m disappointed. From the pic MJ put up, I thought ALLISON was playing guitar!! Oh well.

  56. “3rd place on Idol hasn’t been all that great in the past ‘“ time to change that!”

LOL. Allison came in 4th, not 3rd.

And that worked out pretty well for Daughtry. ;-)

  57. I still can’t figure out why she didn’t win. For me (for you?), she is the breakout talent of AI8 and am looking forward to following her career. That performance was amazing. I just hope her first album allows some of this vibe to shine through.

  58. I do think she could be the breakout star in the long run. Thanks for posting. Awesome.

  59. I get goose bumps everytime I listen to this!

And JohnM, it worked out pretty well for Eliot Yamin as well. Not Daughtry like numbers but still pretty good

In fact, I think Yamin might be the second most popular Idol ever here in Japan after Kelly.

  60. Allison came in 4th, not 3rd. (Poor Gokey, he gets no respect!)

People say she came in 3rd because she should have, especially the way Gokey destroyed the Aerosmith tune that week on AI.

And lately Gokey isn’t even getting respect in Milwaukee, of all places, with a DJ or PD at a country music station there saying Gokey isn’t right for country music, and will not last in that genre.

Alli already proved herself by coming in first on Telemundo. The girl is so talented and at such a young age.

She could have 3 different careers, in pop, rock, and Spanish language…

  61. Allison is adorable and seems to be a real talent, but I find her voice really difficult to listen to. And very one-note so that she sounds monotone. Maybe I’m completely wrong, but sometimes she sounds just like a much better Amanda Overmeyer. “Don’t Waste the Pretty” sounds more “her” though than FIBOU. Rocker ballads seem to work for her.

Her one Idol performance that I thought had a lot of different levels and dynamics to it was the Cryin’ one (not so much on tour). I do find her refreshing, as a counter to Miley, Selena, Demi, Miranda. I think she’s a strong performer too with natural charisma.

  62. Allison, if you are reading this: Thank you for singing something fresh and interesting with a catchy arrangement and your unique voice. Couldn’t stop listening and smiling. You didn’t waste the pretty.

  63. I have to add one more thing.

As impressed as I am with Allie’s vocals, I have to give props to the song writers. These are extremely well written and catchy tunes.

They don’t sound like anyone’s rejects. As if they were written specifically for Allison. This was my biggest worry about this album.

    Jive came through for her!!

Now put me in a time machine to Dec 1st!!

  64. Wow – I loved this! She is so young and so incredibly unique.

Although I purchased her first single, I’m not in love with it. However, I love these songs. Looking forward to her album.

    Thanks for posting this MJ.

  65. Wow, Allison sounds great, but I’m disappointed. From the pic MJ put up, I thought ALLISON was playing guitar!! Oh well.

She played the guitar for the other song she did there, Just like you. I’m really looking forward to a video of that, she’s been doing it in different radio stations but so far, we’ve only gotten this good video for Don’t waste the pretty.

  66. Wow- beautiful! Go Allison!

How come no one has commented on the fact that her guitarist looks like Adam Lambert??? Or at least trying to impersonate him with that hair and clothes, lol

  67. That hair style predates Adam. It’s actually getting old.
I can’t wait for the live version of FIBOU – it’s gotta be nasty sick.

  68. I can’t believe that I missed this on my station here in DC! I listen to 99.5 all the time, however have been away listening non-stop to Kris. Anyhow, I don’t see her fitting in on this station, but freakin love this song. I was a wee bit worried for her (as I always am for all the idols) but I think she will do well. Go Alli!!

  69. How come no one has commented on the fact that her guitarist looks like Adam Lambert??? Or at least trying to impersonate him with that hair and clothes, lol

Nobody is trying to impersonate him, jeez…it’s not like he invented this look. If you look at pictures of this guy, this is not a new look for him.

  70. Yeah, he looks like Adam. I hope this one gonna love her, Adam apparently didn’t …she looks so, so, so sad. She is not happy at all. But on the other hand, Adam looks unhappy to. Take a look at him. I am wandering if this two even talk to each other anymore. Big brother and lil sis, where are they now? I haven’t heard anything since idol about them. Isn’t that weird ?

  71. I love acoustic performances; they’re so pure. This was a really good one from Alli. Great vocals!! And even when seated, that left arm just starts moving–so endearing! My eyes and ears have been elsewhere this week (and probably next week) but I’m definitely looking forward to checking out her album. Hope it streams soon.

  72. Heh, just saying…yeah, that whole post confused me. Adam and Allison are two separate artists with separate careers now, no need to hear of them together anymore.

Great vocals!! And even when seated, that left arm just starts moving’“so endearing!

A sitting performance isn’t enough to stop the T-Rex arm! :)

  73. GaryJ: People say she came in 3rd because she should have, especially the way Gokey destroyed the Aerosmith tune that week on AI.

While that’s true, I think the people who say she came in 3rd have developed that impression simply because she was one of the 3 who got contracts right away, and the 3 of them have been mentioned together since then because of that. Gokey just hasn’t been in the public consciousness much since then.

happycat14: Her one Idol performance that I thought had a lot of different levels and dynamics to it was the Cryin’ one (not so much on tour).

Boy, I wouldn’t put Cry Baby at the top at all (as great as it was). I think the two that showed her levels / dynamics / expressive range the most were I Can’t Make You Love Me and Someone To Watch Over Me. On both of those, she ranged from some belting notes to some very subtle passages — in fact, her delivery of the title line in STWOM was so delicate at times that some people here thought she actually didn’t pronounce parts of it — they apparently didn’t hear those parts. I think her ability for subtle delivery is wildly underrated.

matkojapan: As impressed as I am with Allie’s vocals, I have to give props to the song writers. These are extremely well written and catchy tunes.

They don’t sound like anyone’s rejects. As if they were written specifically for Allison. This was my biggest worry about this album.

While the songwriting is important, of course, my biggest worry about the album was that they would bury her voice under too much production. We won’t know for certain until we hear the whole thing, but based on the 30-second clips, it sounds to me like they didn’t do that on most of the tracks, thank heaven.

washyourhands: I can’t believe that I missed this on my station here in DC!

I don’t know if it has even been broadcast.

goallison: I am wandering if this two even talk to each other anymore. Big brother and lil sis, where are they now? I haven’t heard anything since idol about them. Isn’t that weird ?

No, it’s not weird at all. They (and Kris) have been so busy with their own careers that they don’t have time to be a public group anymore. And that’s fine. AI was one step in their careers, and now they’re on to another step. I’m sure they’ll keep in touch to some extent, but they’re on different career paths now.

  74. LOL I said she came in 3rd upthread – shows ya how much into the season I was. So, OK, I hope she does a Daughtry then.

  75. She is awesome. Her voice is just incredible and she sounds so good live. I wish her all the best and I can’t wait till Dec 1.

  76. I hope she does a Daughtry then.

I’m looking forward to watching that happen!!

  77. How come no one has commented on the fact that her guitarist looks like Adam Lambert??? Or at least trying to impersonate him with that hair and clothes, lol

Nobody is trying to impersonate him, jeez’ ¦it’s not like he invented this look. If you look at pictures of this guy, this is not a new look for him.

I love the Glambert with all my heart, but I completely agree with PRMari. :-)

  78. Back on topic: Allison sounded terrific on both songs. I love ‘Don’t Waste the Pretty’. On ‘Just Like You’ just a tad bit cracking almost at the end, or was that just me? Overall, love the rocker chick. My son, is a huge Allison fan and when he saw the video to ‘FIBOU’ yesterday, I thought he would have a heart attack.

I’m so glad that Alli kept her signature red color on her hair and that she did not change it as so many commented that she should during her run on Idol.

  79. Yeah, her voice cracked a little bit in Just like you. There were a few factors involved there. The key is not totally comfortable for her in those high notes at the bridge but also, that mp3 comes from an interview in which she was sitting rather uncomfortably in front of the radio microphone, singing for the radio listeners. I bet it would’ve been much comfortable for her to reach for those high notes had she been standing up and her body had been in proper singing position. Regardless, she’s got so much soul on her voice and I love those little cracks of emotion.

My son, is a huge Allison fan and when he saw the video to ‘FIBOU’ yesterday, I thought he would have a heart attack

Aw, she does look really gorgeous in the video. I’m also really happy to see she kept her signature red hair.

  80. Allison’s great! She sings with so much genuine feeling for the music. She’s the real thing.

She sold me on this song and I don’t even think that much of the chorus.

I may actually buy her album.

I hope she gets a chance.

  81. PRMari: The key is not totally comfortable for her in those high notes at the bridge

Well, of course that’s my cue to stop procrastinating and check out the song’s range! Those highest notes are D5, which is a step below the highest she sang on AI. She hit that note very well in several performances on the show. I suspect you’re right that the physical setup for this made it tougher. At the other end, the lowest note is G3, which is a step above her lowest on the show. As much as I’d like to see them set the key a bit lower here, I suspect G3 may be the lowest that she’s really comfortable hitting with sufficient power, and given that it shows up a lot in this song, it might not be a good idea to go lower.

fadetowhite: I may actually buy her album.

Please do! She’s going to need all the sales she can get.

  82. You never cease to amaze me with your technical analysis of song’s ranges, heh. So in which songs did she hit a higher note than this one? I still think the sitting position and setting wasn’t the best for her belting out these notes. Of course that doesn’t stop me from totally loving every second of it. I am in love with the angry lyrics from Just like you. You called it, when you said it wouldn’t me “I wanna be just like you” but something totally different. I can definitely see Just like you being a single at some point down the line. Also, she has changed my mind about Don’t waste the pretty. It was one of the few songs that I wasn’t totally feeling from the 30 seconds snippets. Well, color me impressed and I take it back. I will wait for full album version but I already love this version.

  83. We can all agree, the acoustic version of DWTP, is at the very least a good song. Right? I love it, btw.
It boggles my mind how some bloggers, Im talkin’ to you Cantiello, are irresponsibly quick to review a :30 second clip of beautiful song and call it: “Whoever gave Iraheta this bland track should be choked..” WTF!!
No one should even make an attempt to try to do this on any new song at all. Has anybody ever tried a 30 Sec. snip of their favorite song of all time? I have, and they sound like crap. The snippet is meant to help you find a song you’re looking for but forgot the name, and you’re going by trial and error to catch it, simple.

And then there is Slezak who rained on a 17 year old’s parade in her first debut video single. I don’t get these people…
I bet he’ll try to interview Allison when she arrives in NY for the GMAs. I hope she has a tight schedule and postpones both New Yorkers.

  84. They are good promo though, so I hope she meets with them. That said, I also hope she T-Rex-slaps them :-).

  85. LoveDaRocker, yeah I hope she lays the smack on both sellout clowns. I don’t know about “good promo” though. Other than Idol fans, who sees these things? The general audience? Maybe a little, but you’re right any promo will do. My goal for her is to be a supporting act for a respectable artist that can draw her audience like Pink. The way to do it is to tour major cities, promote the single, put it in people’s ears and develope a faithfull following. Also try to score a spot in one of those televised christmas concert specials, because people will see those rather than the New Year’s gig which nobody cares coz they’re out and about.
    exposure exposure exposure.

  86. All good points. For now, she and the band need to kill the GMA and Ellen gigs. That should help with getting more gigs and being noticed by bigger acts looking for an opener.

  87. I LOVE this girl! I loved Allison on the show but this acoustic set is fan-freaking-tastic! I realize her album has a different flavor, but I will buy it and look forward a long career for her.

  88. thanks PRMari!!

That version sounded better than the one posted!

    better acoustics methinks!

damn, buried under the second page for more Gokey and Sarver stuff.

    lame

  89. Thank you PRMari.
In this version of JLY, she hits all the notes because she was able to belt-out using her abdominal muscles freely. I commented earlier(2 days ago) that in an intimate setting, for a vocalist like Allison, becomes difficult to reproduce sounds in the 3rd octave or higher of her range especially in a seated position trying not to drownout the guitar. I think you also seem to agree with me with your position comment. Normally she would lean her head back or whatever it is she does to help reproduce the notes she needs. Her sweet spot is standing with mic in hand performing and feeling the song.

Its safe to assume though, her voice is not completely healed, but at her current stage its night and day compared to the condition of her voice during the summer tour. Its important to note aswell, that her vocals was/is on overtime since last may, practically singing daily if we include all the responsibilities to the tour, multiple album sessions and rehearsals with the new band.
What I also love about Alli, is the fact that her voice cracks every now and then. Thats Alli and I dont want it to ever go away, and I dont ever want her to enunciate clearly either. One of my favorite songs of all time is Yellow Ledbetter by Pearl Jam. You can’t understand anything Eddie says because he uses his voice to make art with feeling. I don’t think any of the artists I enjoy can enunciate clearly. Its not a deal breaker for me, if anything I lean towards it.
You don’t like it, go listen to Celine, Streisand and the rest of the boring enunciating crowd.

  90. You know, I think Allison sounded AMAZING during the last 4 shows of the tour, specially in Cry baby. Check out when you can the youtube version for that song in the Providence show but yeah, her voice has been through a lot in the past few months and there hasn’t been time for her to completely rest her voice and I don’t think that’s going to change anytime soon unfortunately.

I agree about the enunciation thing as well. It’s not a deal breaker for me.

  91. PRMari: I think Allison sounded AMAZING during the last 4 shows of the tour, specially in Cry baby.

I agree, the voice was fuller. But, can you really compare them to the first 5 shows, and possibly LA?
    Check this one out

She stopped doing the extra 20 seconds after the 5th show.

  92. How long can we keep this thread trickling along?? Maybe until Sunday when we might get a Torrid listening party thread to hide out in while 2,000 messages get posted about The Greatest Performance In The History Of This Or Any Award Show? ;-)

PRMari: So in which songs did she hit a higher note than this one?

Slow Ride. That was the only one on the show, although she went even a half step higher than that during the tour on Cry Baby and some Barracuda performances.

She matched JLY’s D5 note on Give In To Me, Papa, I Can’t Make You Love Me, Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing, Hot Stuff, and Cry Baby.

Also, she has changed my mind about Don’t waste the pretty. It was one of the few songs that I wasn’t totally feeling from the 30 seconds snippets. Well, color me impressed and I take it back. I will wait for full album version but I already love this version.

Yeah, that’s an interesting one. In terms of structure, it’s very simple — the chord progression is a standard 1-7-4-1 (which in this case is B-A-E-B) that is the backbone of a gazillion rock songs, and so it’s not very creative in that way. But the clip hit me right away as having the potential to be one of my favorites on the album, because of the arrangement — mainly the harmonies and the cool guitar/bass riff in the chorus (starting at the 7-second mark in the clip), as well as the verse’s melody (especially the last note she sings in the clip). On the flip side, as an acoustic song, there’s essentially no arrangement attraction to make the simple structure more interesting, but her vocal more than makes up for that, of course.

By the way, in this live performance they lowered DWTP a half step from the album version. That makes the highest note — guess what — that same D5 as in JLY and all those other songs. I guess that’s really as high as she wants to go.

    Geekfest complete!

Rub: I bet he’ll try to interview Allison when she arrives in NY for the GMAs. I hope she has a tight schedule and postpones both New Yorkers.

Well, although I don’t know what Slezak’s problem is with the video — seems like pure fun to me — he’s a fantastic interviewer, and Jim loves her too, so I think she’d do well to visit with both of them.

LoveDaRocker: For now, she and the band need to kill the GMA and Ellen gigs.

No worries about her killing it! As for the band, we’ll see — I have a feeling that her promo was “slow” in starting because they spent a lot of time rehearsing, and I think that’s a very smart thing to do, because you really want them to be as tight and comfortable as possible when they hit national TV on the 1st.

Hey, I think that new performance of JLY is a lot better! Thanks PRMari!

Rub: becomes difficult to reproduce sounds in the 3rd octave or higher of her range

Well, she’s never shown us more than 2 octaves, but yeah. :-) You’re right, she does like to lean her head back — and turn it sideways some — on that high stuff.

I don’t think any of the artists I enjoy can enunciate clearly. Its not a deal breaker for me, if anything I lean towards it.
You don’t like it, go listen to Celine, Streisand and the rest of the boring enunciating crowd.

    Can I get an “Amen”??!!!!

  93. The kid feels the music deep inside her. That is a gift most don’t get.She nailed JLU and the people there knew it.That song has rock all over it.
The day i heard TeresaLWhites was her A&R I had no worries about her. This kid will be around a long time.

  94. I woke up with “Don’t Waste The Pretty” in my head this morning. Maybe it will be her second single. :-)

  95. I have Don’t waste the pretty and Just like you stuck in my head non stop.

  96. Hey JohnM, hasn’t she hit at least a G on the third octave? I know I’m a little rusty on the octaves up and down the staff, but hey, you’re the rhythm guy.
And yes Dont waste the pretty is now on the iPhone and being blasted on the car.
Btw, that Billboard article makes me feel better about Jive’s commitment.

  97. Rub: Hey JohnM, hasn’t she hit at least a G on the third octave?

Has she? My apologies — I don’t have a record of her hitting anything above the F (on Cry Baby and Barracuda), which makes exactly two octaves. But I didn’t watch a whole lot of tour videos (didn’t want to burn out). I’d love to know where she went up to the G…

Btw, that Billboard article makes me feel better about Jive’s commitment.

Man, now I really feel out of it! What Billboard article? My wife was telling me about an article that said they were going for Hayley/Avril territory with her, but she can’t remember where she read it.

But I think the mere fact of the New Moon promo indicates a pretty strong commitment, as I can’t imagine that that came cheap.

  98. John, I posted the link on TWoP. But just in case, here it is again.

    http://twitpic.com/qdsl1

It’s hard to read but basically some big guy on Jive was saying that she’ll be targeted to her teen peers but also hitting the Latin market with the release of El viernes te olvido yo to the radio as well.

I’ve never seen the “Avril/Hayley” article but that’s surely a good place to start with her, much better than Miley/Selena/Demi.

  99. Thanks. For some reason I’ve been forgetting to go to TWoP recently. That’s a pretty cool article — and very appropriately titled!

  100. PRMari
Live performance video for Just like you:
Acoustic guitar from her too, very nice

    INCREDIBLE!!!
Sometimes I have questioned my enthusiasm for this girl. Now I think it wasn’t enough!
Her guitar playing added a lot to it. I hope she does more of that.
The bridge section was a lot better here than the Pennsylvania performance. And I have the feeling it will get better the more she performs it.
I thought that the second single should be DWTP. Now I am not so sure. Need to hear the produced songs. NOW!

  101. Anybody home?

OK, for all you hardcore Allison fans lurking in this “underground” thread, I bit the bullet and went to the Torrid “listening party” this afternoon. Did anyone else, go – anyone at all?

First of all, my mistake, I was actually expecting some kind of event. Like maybe a little table with some volunteer handing out some promotional material. I also expected more than the 3 people (2 sales clerks, and myself) to be in the store at 3 PM, Pacific Time. Keep in mind that I was a (almost) 65 year old man hanging out in a young woman’s clothing store, supposedly shopping for a present for my wife. Actually, that part was partially true, as my wife is a plus size, and I would have gladly bought her something if I had seen anything remotely right for her. But, in 5 minutes I knew that there was nothing in the store appropriate for her taste.

Now I had to stall for about 40 minutes, while one of the sales clerks felt determined to help me find something to buy.

To make matters more uncomfortable, the speakers were very close to the corset section, not exactly where I wanted to hang out. But, I was determined to at least get some reasonably good sound out of this venture, so I steadfastly lurked by the pink corsets.

On to the album – cutting to the chase.

All of the non-FIBOU cuts give us plenty of the Allison we know and love. I liked “Robot” much more than I expected. It’s really catchy and might make it as a pop hit. I think the production “Just Like You” also is very strong and is a great showcase for Alli. DWTP is solid, but I absolutely love the acoustic (maybe a little bit more). I was a little disappointed in “DIFD” – but I think I need to hear it again. Liked “Still Breathing” a lot more than the snippet. Real nice song. “You Don’t Know Me” is good, but I have a feeling that a live version could be even better. Have to reserve judgment on most of the others until I hear them again, especially Scars and Beat Me Up. However –

“TROUBLE IS”. Absolutely blew me away. I love, love LOVE the way Allison delivers this song. Wow! I love everything about this solid song. If this isn’t a hit it’s a crime!

One other thing – I swear I didn’t hear Holiday. I might have been distracted by the sales clerk at that time, but it’s hard to believe I wouldn’t have noticed that song. Wonder if the Dilana situation caused them to pull the song? Hope not, because I love Holiday.

Anyway, the second sales clerk, who actually knew who Allison was and was a fan, gave me a little pink bag with an Allison decal and a discount coupon to their store. And that was the end of my adventure.

Again, was I the only one? BTW this was at the South Bay Galleria in Redondo Beach, CA.

  102. I guess Sunday afternoons are slow business but glad you got to hear it.

I’ve read a lot of comments about how gorgeous Trouble is is and it seems that they didn’t play Holiday in any store, I don’t know why, maybe because it was too hard or something.

  103. 134 :-)

    PRMari, just wondering:

Did Jorge Nunez made something out of his stint in Idol?; and

Was there any buzz in PR regarding the fact that Gokey’s wife was Puertorrican? He mentioned he would go there to visit family after Idol. I like Gokey, not enough to forgive Rock Week, but wish him well.

  104. For the 2 or 3 of you who might actually still be checking this thread, and not obsessing over the topic of the day (Are you a member of Team Glambert or Team Slambert?):

Allison’s twitter account mysteriously has morphed under the name of Quinvherli Mananà , Location: En la Punta del Serro. 4 followers, 1 post. It no longer appears on her official web page.

Interesting, since her last post prior to this purge was something like “I’m so proud of your crazy ass, mi hermano,” to guess who.

I will now wait anxiously for hundreds of comments to this posting.
