Tonight Simon Cowell has the Golden Buzzer!
Issy Simpson – Kid Magician – Britain’s Got Talent 2017 – Runner-Up – She got a congratulatory phone call from Daniel Radcliffe, which was very exciting for a little girl! She’s 10 years old now. All grown up. Heh. She’s does a bit with books and cards and words on a blackboard. She’s a very clever little girl! It all ends with Issy wearing a Howie Mandel T shirt emblazoned with the card he pulled. Cute trick! “Britain has adorable talent,” says Howie. Mel calls her seamless and full of confidence. Heidi calls her a little firecracker. “That was incredible,” says Simon. He loves her competitive spirit.
The Texas Tenors – Opera Singers – America’s Got Talent 2009 – Finalist Season 4 – They are excited to sing in front of Simon for the first time. The judges were really tough on them all the way through the competition. Ultimately, they finished in 4th place. After, they toured all over the country. They sing “Unchained Melody.” The blond dude isn’t really an opera singer? The other two are more operatic. They mix some Italian in. It’s a bit of a mish mosh, this arrangement. Heidi thought it was a little schmaltzy, but pretty. Mel liked when they sang together. “I loved it,” says Howie. Simon thinks they got better with age.

Drew Lynch – Stand-Up Comic –America’s Got Talent 2015 – Runner-up Season 10 – He came in 2nd behind winner Paul Zerdin. After an accident, he developed a stutter that will always be with him. He’s excited to go up against Paul again. He stutters less than he did before. He has also upgraded his look! Jokes about invisalign braces? That’s a first. After, he gets a big standing ovation. Mel calls his set “Too short! I just love you.” Heidi says he is one of her favorite comedians on the show. Simon thinks he’s done better bits in the past, but he respects him. Howie thinks he’s grown by leaps and bounds. Drew looks disappointed that he didn’t wow Simon.
Paul Zerdin – Ventriloquist – America’s Got Talent 2015 – Winner Season 10 – He has a headlining show in Las Vegas. Once again, he’s competing against Drew Lynch. “I want that champion title,” he says. He does a bit about elevators before launching into the night’s big trick. He beat boxes and sings at the same time. It’s a semi-cool trick, but variations have been done by ventriloquists in the past. It’s cute, however, having the puppet be skeptical. The crowd gives him a standing ovation. Howie loves the way he plays with the art form. “You really had me laughing,” says Heidi. Simon thought it was original, funny, but not a progression from 2015. Mel disagrees.

Moonlight Brothers – Dancing Brothers – Denmark’s Got Talent 2018 – Winner – They realize that they have to step up their game to compete in the US. Eehhhh. So many dance shows in the US, this routine is so mediocre and corny by comparison. They have some humor in the act, which is good. Mel expected a little bit more. Howie didn’t personally love it. Heidi liked the humor and the energy. Simon calls it fun, different, but not good enough. Expecting these winning acts from smaller countries to compete with talent from the US is really unfair.

Tape Face – Comedic Mime – America’s Got Talent 2016 – Finalist Season 11 – Tape Face is as weird as ever! And that’s a very good thing. First, he does a bit with Howie and some record scratching, followed by enticing Terry Crews to do a construction worker strip tease–which is hilarious. Terry is such a good sport! Tape Face brings his own Golden Buzzer on stage setting off the whole confetti deal. Terry is on to the finale! Not really. But maybe he should be. Howie calls Tape Face memorable, and mentions his Vegas show “House of Tape.” Mel could watch him all day long. Heidi’s kids love him! Simon calls it silly and funny.

Kechi – Singer – America’s Got Talent 2017 – Finalist Season 12 – 28-year-old Nigerian-born woman currently living in Houston survived a plane crash that took the lives of 107 of 109 passengers in Nigeria in 2005. She suffered 3rd degree burns over 65% of her body. The audience is standing for her before she even performs. Since she has competed, Kechi has been working with Shriners Hospital. She sings “You Are The Reason” by Calum Scott. Her matter-of-fact acceptance of the hand life dealt her has always been admirable. She has never felt like a sob story. Beyond which–she also happens to be a good singer. Howie says she does so much more than just show up. “Champion of life.” Mel thinks she’s improved. Heidi says she looks and sounds beautiful. Simon says, “I didn’t really like it that much…I LOVED IT!” Oh who didn’t see that coming? Simon hits his Golden Buzzer. Kechi bursts into tears, she is so emotional.

The Professional Regurgitator – Regurgitator – Britain’s Got Talent 2010 – Finalist – Stevie Starr was a finalist on “Britain’s Got Talent” in 2010, “America’s Got Talent” in 2015 and “France’s Got Talent” in 2015. And this act is exactly how it sounds. He swallows things and barfs them back up. And….you’re on your own kids. I can’t watch this. Inexplicably, this is Heidi’s favorite act. Simon is so grossed out, he buzzes him.
Brian Justin Crum – Singer – America’s Got Talent 2016 – Season 11 Finalist – He grew up gay and overweight. AGT gave him a place to belong. He was disappointed to come in 4th place when he competed. Looking back, he feels he sang the wrong songs. He performs a dramatic rendition of “Your Song” by Elton John, starting off acapella with a big note. No messing around! The arrangement is a little choppy, but it does give Brian an opportunity to show off his voice. The crowd are on their feet. Howie calls him “brilliant” and is sure that he’s “locked it in.” Mel calls it a “killer performance.” Heidi feels it when he sings. Simon calls his voice amazing. “It’s in a different league than anything you’ve ever done.”

Kenichi – Projection/Dance – America’s Got Talent 2013 – Winner Season 8 – He’s now a worldwide internet sensation. He wants to become bigger and better, but he’s racing against his age. It’s another creative routine from Kenichi that involves an internet game and an adorable robot dog! Want to impress Simon? Introduce an adorable robot dog. Ha. Heidi is a huge fan. You are already a winner, says Mel. But she feels that maybe he overachieved? What? I’m not sure what she’s talking about. Simon, of course, loved the routine and little robot dog–which you can apparently order from Amazon.
