Fifty-nine year old John Wines may look mild mannered, but when he plays his guitar on the America’s Got Talent stage, he transforms into a rockstar.
In a new early release from Tuesday’s Auditions 3 episode, the music teacher from the South Coast of the United Kingdom shares that he used to be an electrician, until a friend suggested he try teaching. The kids he teaches run the spectrum of ages and “keep me young,” he says.

He starts off the performance with some feedback before launching into an electrifying and skilled version of Queen’s “We Will Rock You.” Heidi Klum sings along. As he shows off his guitar chops, the audience goes crazy.
“I was not expecting that,” says Simon Cowell afterward. John becomes very emotional as the crowd stands and chants, “We want more!”
Sofia Vergara says, “That was so much fun to watch! You didn’t think that you could be a teacher. Did you ever imagine that you could be a rockstar?” John replies, “I have a mix of emotions. It’s the most nerve wracking thing I’ve ever done. But also the most exhilarating.”
“I was waiting for the red Xs”
“You look so normal, and nice and sweet,” Simon says. “And then you turn into somebody else when you perform. I love that.”
Heidi says, “You did become a rockstar…and you couldn’t believe your eyes when we were all standing up for you. You’re the cutest!” John confesses that he was waiting for the “red Xs.”
In the end, Howie Mandel, Simon, Heidi and Sofia give John 4 yeses, which earns him the opportunity to compete in the live shows.
A Tik Tok star
John is no stranger to social media. The guitarist has over 1.3 million followers on Tik Tok and often tackles iconic solos on his electric guitar. His video of him playing the solo from “Hotel California” by The Eagles has 23.5 million views and 4.6 million likes on Tik Tok.
