Adam Lambert Pre-Idol Album Expected this Summer

From the Associated Press:

Songs from the American Idol runner-up will be released this summer by Hi Fi Recordings and Wilshire Records, beginning with the single Want. A spokeswoman for the label said the tracks were recorded in 2007 and 2008 before Lambert’s rise on the popular Fox singing competition. The album will be titled On with the Show.

Why wouldn’t a producer with some pre-Idol recordings from Adam Lambert in the can attempt to cash in on them?

I’m guessing the rest of the material will be as mediocre as this offering. Sure, Adam’s powerhouse vocals are awesome, but the song? Not so much.

  1. Wow, Adam Lambert sings AC. That sure was boring. Glad that’s not the direction he is moving in.

  2. Oh thank GOD. I am spreading the word at…guess where…TWITTER. B/c so many people are saying it’s “Adam’s new album” or whatever. No. It is not. It’s comprised of songs he recorded pre-Idol and that are being released without Adam’s approval (that we are aware of). Still waiting for a statement from Adam, should he be allowed to issue one.

He can’t catch a break, can he? First the press has to focus on his sexuality, he has to defend his sexual preference, and now he has to worry about the one thing he really cares about, his MUSIC?

This pisses me off to no end.

  3. What about that awesome single “Pop Goes the Camera”? Hope that makes it onto his REAL album.

  4. Awww. Isn’t it nice when the bottom feeders come out and try and make money off of other people, while messing with them, and when the actual artist, won’t make any money from it. And then for the CEO to make the statement that they’re doing this to help Adam? http://my.att.net/s/editorial.dll?fromspage=all/home.htm&categoryid=&bfromind=7403&eeid=6644249&_sitecat=1479&dcatid=0&eetype=article&render=y&ac=-2&ck=&ch=ne&s=en&rg=blsadstrgt&l=hm Please. These guys are jerkfaces. Yes, I know it happens all the time. But it doesn’t mean I have to like it when it does.

  5. Hope SONY is on the ball to cut off every other citing of this. It’s on EW, Yahoo Music and already made a bunch of newspaper articles. Hope they kick the shit out of Prez and get it off his site too. We do not want anybody messing with our precious Adam and screwing with his real RCA album. Such douches , anybody will try to make a buck riding on coattails.

  6. Adam may have recorded several demos with a songwriter who in turn would have “pitched” the songs to a recording company. Adam, more than likely was paid a flat fee to record these. Now the songwriter has, it seems, sold them to this recording company as not just the “song” but the demo tape as well.

Since Adam will not be receiving ANY royalties off of the album he is basically off the hook legally. Now RCA may put a restraining order on the album (what I am sure the other label is looking for) and will eventually “buy out the album”. If RCA decides to do nothing, the album will be printed and marketed. Now, to put Adam’s name on the album might be tricky because Adam does own the rights to his name…so that is an issue. Also, without the artist to promote the album it would be hard to get the radio stations to spin any of the songs.

I think that there will be several more songs “leaked”, some money will change hands and the whole thing will go away. Besides, how much Upfront money is the original company going to be willing to put up, up front, to get the thing distributed. This will be old news in a week!

  7. Hilton has already posted an update correcting the original post, and a spokesperson for 19 Entertainment à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ which produces à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Idolà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and manages the post-show careers of most of the contestants à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ said Perezà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s post contained à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“false informationà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ and that a full statement would be forthcoming.

  8. I don’t think this is anything quite that alarming since this won’t be on his new album…I’m sure he will come out with much better material…the song is not horrible but its not that great either…it gets better towards the end though…w/e he is still a great singer and the mark of any great singer is what he does here” he gives some life to a song that is sub-standard with his vocals.
That being said, if this were the material he’d be putting out I wouldn’t buy it LOL

  9. Kind of a lame song. Beautiful voice though.

I hope Sony and 19 squash this like a bug. I’m not sure what the legalities are.

  10. Didn’t this happen with Taylor too? And he had to get his lawyers on some guy?

I’m just praying for Adam that he has better material this time around….that was pop sludge.

  11. This is really unfortunate (in the headline thread I called it shitty, but I’ve calmed down somewhat since then).
The song is already being downloaded all over the internetz, I already have mine, so who’s gonna buy a single that everyone will have by next week????

Poor bb. I ope Sony does something about this to at least delay the release until after the fall.

His vocals are awesome though aren’t they?!!!!

    ETA:

I pray to the heavens you’re right Tess. Please be right.

  12. doesnt sony have controlled over everything entitled “adam lambert” which would smash this little cd to pieces?

  13. In truth, other than us internet junkies, mainstream America isn’t even going to get wind of this….yeh, a few douche bags at a few radio stations will spin it but, like everything else it will dissolve into thin air very quickly. Though, I do expect it to be on Twitter shortly…..well just more AI and Adam buzz.

  14. Well I bet there are some 19/RCA lawyers pissed off about having to work this weekend.

Another perk of celebrity……..the scuzzballs that come out of the woodwork to make a quick buck off your name.

  15. In GOOD news, Adam’s Lyndsey Parker interview is up now at Yahoo. It was done yesterday while he was at rehearsal. She does indeed squeal like a fangirl at the end — but it’s a great interview and doesn’t seem to be edited down. It’s just 14 1/2 minutes of pure Adam — love. Thank you to Gossip Candy for being so fast to put this information up!

    http://new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/realityrocks/243532/adam-lambert-the-reality-rocks-interview/

    Okay, must go watch again…

  16. Can you tell if this is authorized, MJ, or is it similar to the kind of situation Taylor dealt with when he won?

  17. He sounds like Leona Lewis. That was awful. Again, how is he not considered a ringer?

Hopefully, 19/RCA will give him better songs to sing. Cuz, again, that’s an awful song. So this is / was Adam’s style of music? Doesn’t sound very rock either.

  18. This is ridiculous! I think this is very bad publicity for Adam. The fact that the song is totally different than what people imagine Adam will sing. This will shift people’s opinion of Adam’s real image and his real artistry. I don’t know, I hope this stuff won’t have a negative impact on his real debut album coming out later this year. I don’t want the casual listeners to be confused by the two albums being released a few months apart from each other. Does anyone know if Adam have the power to stop this from being released?

  19. ugh. i went over to perez’s and happened upon a newer post about adam criticizing him for wanting to buy a house “in this economy”… wtf. seriously. i hate when i end up on his site to see an adam link. barf.

i love his voice but the song is so cheesy. (eagerly awaiting 19’s statement…)

doesnt sony have controlled over everything entitled à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“adam lambertà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ which would smash this little cd to pieces?

That’s what I’m thinking. And it looks like Sony/BMG and 19E are working to squash this already.

  21. I hope Adam didn’t write this song, because the lyrics are pretty lame. His voice sounds fantastic as always, but this doesn’t seem like the type of song I could see Adam wanting to record — at least not at this point in his career.

If nothing else, maybe 19/RCA can at least delay this release until AFTER Adam’s debut album drops. After all, we always see archived material and outtakes from musicians released to the public — but usually not until after they are well established in the business.

  22. I believe, and I am not speaking for MJ ;), that this track was NOT authorized, hence Sony removing it wherever it can. HOWEVER, you can still hear it at the mtv.com link and other sites. Twitter is all abuzz over this. I am serving as the official “this is not from Adam’s REAL album” spokesperson. ;) I am happy to hear that if money trades hands that this CAN be squelched. Why? Because Adam has a LOT of fans (as if you didn’t know), and if they hear this song and think it’s representative of the kind of music he will be putting out, and it is not, then they won’t bother with the awesome album he is in the process of making. (Not that I am biased in any way, of course.)

The entertainment industry really does suck, doesn’t it? Fortunately, Adam knows it well, and this probably doesn’t come as any kind of shock to him.

And yeah, Lyndsey’s interview kicks serious butt.

  23. Unlike Kris’ Pre-Idol songs, Adam’s Digital Glitter and Citizen Vein songs were removed from his myspace page the minute he signed with RCA. This tells me that Sony BMG, RCA and 19 were fully aware of the copyright issues. The fact that this single is being released now and the album in the summer tells me that a deal could not be reached between all parties.

I pray that you’re right Tess, but the pessimist in me thinks you might be wrong about this one.

  24. He sounds like Leona Lewis. That was awful. Again, how is he not considered a ringer?

How does sounding like Leona Lewis make one a ringer? Confuzzled.

Because clearly this was some low quality stuff that was never finished and that Adam never went/got anywhere with. This doesn’t make Adam any more of a “ringer” than BNS did for Kris or the aforementioned previous works by Taylor.

The song is trite as hell, but his voice is really purty on it.

  25. Also, if people really want to hear some of Adam’s, or Kris, or some of the other Idols’ earlier stuff, why not just go on youtube? I know there’s lots of Adam and Kris stuff on there — and it a lot of that youtube stuff is way better than this “single”

  26. Oh, Lord, that’s a bad song. I think I prefer No Boundaries!

I don’t get what the original recording deal was with Adam though. I can see getting paid a flat fee for doing a demo, but wouldn’t they have to pay him something additional if they released it as a single?

I don’t see how anybody can stop them, though, if the recording is their property now. I mean if Adam appeared in a film, could anybody stop the producers from releasing the movie to capitalize on his newfound fame?

Where’s SybilTrelawney? We need a lawyer — STAT!

And re Kris, he recorded that album on his own, a la Cook’s Analog Heart. This, I presume, is something Adam was paid to record, ergo a contractual relationship was entered into with the producer. Again, not a lawyer, but I’m not seeing an analogous situation here.

  27. I agree–he sounds fantastic, but mediocre song. So, hopefully they won’t be able to release the album since it seems annoying to have people thinking it’s his new music, but I suppose it won’t matter much in the long run either way.

  28. Yeah, kinda trite, but pretty vocals.

Who knows how this went down. I know Adam said he had recorded some demos in hopes of shopping them around before trying out for Idol, but wasn’t getting anywhere. Wonder if he traded studio time for the rights to the songs? It’ll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

ETA: Apparently Ryan tweeted about his blog just 6 minutes ago. I guess he didn’t get the memo that it was removed from there. LOL.

  29. That’s my question, too: Does RCA/SONY/19 have any control over this? Or can they just issue a statement expressing that this is unauthorized and has nothing to do with new and forthcoming Adam Lambert material? If Hi-Fi refuses payment from RCA/19 and releases it, what happens? Does Adam have any say over this at all?

And if not: Maybe the Tour will squash this. Thankfully, it begins in on July 5 (of course, that’s probably the release date of the album, so that Hi-Fi can *try* to tie it in with the Tour).

  30. I donà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t get what the original recording deal was with Adam though. I can see getting paid a flat fee for doing a demo, but wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t they have to pay him something additional if they released it as a single?

Someone on IDF found this: http://www.welsford.net/player_rockPop.html

One of the tracks called “December” is the same song as this. It made me wonder if Adam did some session work and they are trying to release that?

  31. they just played it on my local radio station!! Oh my God, it sucks!! They better get a handle on it, or people will think his album will be full of this crapola.

  32. I must be DESPERATE for Adam music, lol. I’m still listening to this song over and over, despite its mediocrity! Actually, it sounds like a Beatles knock-off, as some others have mentioned, the instruments and melody. He might have written this, but it’s not like these are top-notch producers who know what’s hot and fresh or young. His voice sounds awesome. He sounds like he could be singing in a Broadway play with this type of song. And yeah, to further show how pathetic I am, if somehow this company is legally allowed to sell this album–I’ll go right out and buy it. :redface_wp:

Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. Session work or demo sounds about right. The recording itself sounds demoish to me.

  34. they just played it on my local radio station!!

Eek. This is like gokeyisadouche, it’s out of control. Somebody better get the lawyers off the golf course.

  35. *****Someone on IDF found this: http://www.welsford.net/player_rockPop.html

One of the tracks called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Decemberà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is the same song as this. It made me wonder if Adam did some session work and they are trying to release that?

    Same freaking song.

  36. Oh, it’s already being played on-air?!

    *slamming head against wall*

  37. I’m confused. Where does it say that this was a demo and how do people know he got paid a flat rate to record whatever songs these are?

  38. I love Adam and it hurts when people are doing things to hurt him. I so want him to succeed and if people keep doing this to him, i fear he might not. For one, i will be supporting Adam. Once RCA is out, i will buy the album.

Adam – even if the road ahead is difficult, i would like you to know i a true glambert fan. Will always be a fan no matter what. And don’t worry about shit head Perez Hilton – “he is a dirt and ugly one at that! I hope all the Glambert fans thinks the same way as i do.

  39. Ryan just twittered about Adam’s “new single” AFTER his own site pulled the song down. Density, thy name is Seacrest.

  40. Hmmm. Curiouser and curiouser. Session work or demo sounds about right. The recording itself sounds demoish to me.

It does have a demo quality to me. When it was first leaked by Perez with talk of it being his first single, I thought it was some random demo. Then the pre-Idol information came out, so I didn’t really think about it, but then someone found that.

So if he did session work for a demo, how does that work when it comes to rights and releasing it? I figured session work would imply that Adam wouldn’t really have a say or profit. I guess it just comes down to Adam’s name.

  41. What I cannot get over is that apparently both Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton at first believed that this was a track from Adam’s first post-Idol album. AS IF! That recording has the raw, unfinished quality of a cheap demo, which should have been obvious to them both. ESPECIALLY Ryan. Doesn’t he sit and listen to “America’s Top 40” every week? I mean come on!

  42. Just read Perez’s post on his site and the comments. Most people seem to like it! Well, if he can weather yet another storm, this time about a so-so song, people are proving they really adore him. That’s something I as a fan am grateful for.

Has anyone thought of this song as similar to the overblown, melodramatic songs they foist on the Idol winners?

  43. they just played it on my local radio station!! Oh my God, it sucks!!

Or it could join Never-Will-Die Magic Rainbow in the canon of craptastic inspirational hits.

  44. What I cannot get over is that apparently both Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton at first believed that this was a track from Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first post-Idol album. AS IF! That recording has the raw, unfinished quality of a cheap demo, which should have been obvious to them both. ESPECIALLY Ryan. Doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he sit and listen to à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Americaà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Top 40à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ³ every week? I mean come on!

No kidding! Seacrest has been a DJ at one the biggest radio stations in the country for how long? How the hell could he believe that this was going to be an official release?

  45. Ryan is so clueless sometimes – why would he even talk about this, wouldn’t he know better…

oh well at least Adam’s version is better than that other guys.

  46. One of the tracks called à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“Decemberà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ is the same song as this. It made me wonder if Adam did some session work and they are trying to release that?

Lol. It’s so ridiculous. This entire thing is ridiculous. It seems that Adam can’t go a week without causing a media uproar.

And as for the song… well, at least he sounds good.

  47. A little confused…. I thought Idol contestants couldn’t already have a recording contract? How do these recordings not equal a recording contract?

  48. What I cannot get over is that apparently both Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton at first believed that this was a track from Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first post-Idol album.

I’d bet that both of these guys have cute little $10 an hour interns doing their research for them. I bet they never even listened to the song before posting. They don’t have the time to verify the accuraccy of anything they say or do….they pay a little intern for that.

  49. Ryan must be pre-occupied with the 7 million other things he tries to do simultaneously. I can see Hilton believing it, but Seacrest?

A few of us *waving to Sunn* twittered back at him to basically say, WTF?

Still waiting for an official statement from Sony/RCA/19…

  50. A little confusedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. I thought Idol contestants couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t already have a recording contract? How do these recordings not equal a recording contract?

No. When they can’t have a current record deal. Previous failed contracts are fair game.

  51. Squirrely:

Ryan is so clueless sometimes – why would he even talk about this, wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he know betterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Why do I think some dumb intern was ghostwriting for Ryan? I can’t believe Ryan would ever be THAT clueless, LOL!

[Are you the same Squirrely from Rickey’s last year? I’ve missed you in Idol Land! Do you still think DC will be as big as the Beatles one day? ;-) ]

  52. Margie, no recording contract. Kris put a demo album together, David Cook had one, Taylor Hicks had one. They didn’t have contracts. They were just trying to peddle their music and make it.

  53. As I said in the other thread, ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s basically a neo-Brit-pop knockoff of the Beatlesà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã…“All You Need Is Loveà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦.

Actually the first song I thought of when I heard it was “Eternal Flame” by The Bangles.

  54. A little confusedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. I thought Idol contestants couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t already have a recording contract? How do these recordings not equal a recording contract?

I can go into a studio this evening, lay down some tracks, put them in a drawer, go on idol next year, come in second and someone will find those tracks and release them. Well not as easy as that, but anyone can record a cd.

  55. “A little confusedà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦. I thought Idol contestants couldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t already have a recording contract? How do these recordings not equal a recording contract?

Just because someone has done demos and/or sent tapes to a record company is not the same as having an actual contract. Most record companies want to hear what someone sounds like before they sign them

  56. People can record songs without any contracts with recording companies. Adam’s song, Crawl Thru Fire was written for the Zodiac show, but wasn’t part of any recording deal. Seems like someone got ahold of several demo songs and compiled them into an album, not that Adam made the album for a company in the past.

  57. So if he did session work for a demo, how does that work when it comes to rights and releasing it? I figured session work would imply that Adam wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t really have a say or profit. I guess it just comes down to Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s name.

If it is session work then Adam was payed a flat fee and has no rights to the recording. It is the property of the commissioning company in this case Wilshire Records. Wilshire, as we know from the HIFi statement, sold the rights to HiFi for release of the album. Adam wont see a penny and has no legal right as an artist to stop the release. Sony BMG and RCA however might have recourse through ownership of Adam’s name.

However, I don’t think this is a surprise to Sony BMG/RCA, I think they’ve known about it for sometime. It makes sense that Wilshir would have approached Sony first for the sale and when Sony said no- probably not to buying but to releasing the music, Wilshir went to HIFI.

Can Sony/RCA/19 do something about this? I don’t know.

  58. That makes sense but then doesn’t the artist own the demo if it isn’t picked up to a recording contract? It sounds to me like Wilshire is already defensive in their press release – as if they were anticipating legal action but no one has been clear about the ownership issues.

I hope Adam can nip this in the bud….. He doesn’t deserve this.

  59. WTF Ryan!!! Are you really the one twitting or you asking one of the interns to do it. Shucks!

  60. It would be funny if this craptastic song became a hit — THAT would prove how much of a star Adam really could become. Because this song is just B-A-D. It’s up there with “No Boundaries” in the “someone got PAID to write these lyrics?? –WTF???” canon.

  61. Adam has released a statement. It’s at ew.com. He said it was session work. Check it out.

  62. Oh, Lord, thatà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a bad song. I think I prefer No Boundaries!

    Me too. LoL

Someone else mentioned Leona Lewis. I actually prefer Best Kept Secret over Spirit. Bleeding Love was the only song I cared for on her post X-factor cd. I haven’t listened to her earlier Twilight demo. She was kind of young then so who knows….

  63. Adam’s statement concerning the song “Want”………

    Quote:
    Update from Adam re “Want”
UPDATE: Lambert has just released a statement responding to the release of this new song:

“Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. I was broke at the time and this was my chance to make a few bucks, so I jumped at the opportunity to record for my first time in a professional studio. The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on. I’m thrilled to be working with some of today’s hottest songwriters and producers and can’t wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like.”

It’s what I figured. I hope RCA can squish them like little bugs or at the very least make them look like the scuzzbuckets they are. They won’t see one penny of my hard earned dollars.

  64. From EW:

The work I did back then in no way reflects the music I am currently in the studio working on. I’m thrilled to be working with some of today’s hottest songwriters and producers and can’t wait for people to hear what my music really sounds like.”

So that settles it. The tone of the statement indicates to me that Sony/RCA will not be able to stop the release :(.

  65. ADAM’S STATEMENT

UPDATE: Lambert has just released a statement responding to the release of this new song:

“Back in 2005 when I was a struggling artist, I was hired as a studio singer to lend my vocals to tracks written by someone else. 66. So it was session work.

Oh, man — it’s not just the media glomming onto Adam now. No wonder he made his coattails detachable (random reference to his Reality Rocks interview).

ETA: Sunn, oh — you are right. It doesn’t say anything about stopping it. How did Sony get it removed from sites though?

  67. Someone twitter Seacrest – his twitter says this song is 8 months old and clue him in what’s happening. Thanx. I can’t twitter.

  68. Adam must wake up ever morning thinking “what now” every day google alert goes crazy spitting out Adam stories.

  69. This is the continuing saga of Adam Lambert. Stay tuned next week for Chapter 34. What do we have in store for you? It’s anybody’s guess, but it will be interesting.

  70. We need a twitter and online campaign to ensure no one pays any money for this single or the “album”. Question – how bad are the other tracks if Want is the first single to be released?

    Poor Adam.

  71. *****[Are you the same Squirrely from Rickeyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s last year? Ià ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ve missed you in Idol Land! Do you still think DC will be as big as the Beatles one day? ;-) ]

I am Squirrely over at Rickey’s , but I don’t remember this conversation – but that’s not saying much because I barely remember yesterday ;p

I have never posted much over there until this season

  72. He has an amazing voice and so distinctive, how on this earth he was not picked up by a recording company years ago I just don’t understand it (and nor could Paula). Yes the song is lame but to me it prooves he literally could sing the phone book and make it sound good!

  73. I wonder if this will speed up the release of Adam’s first single to beat these jerks to the punch.

  74. Adam released a statement:

“UPDATE: Lambert has just released a statement responding to the release of this new song:

    http://music-mix.ew.com/2009/06/adam-lambert-want-new-single.html

  75. Well on the bright side, at least we now know he didn’t write that song. Phew!

As for what can happen legally? Not looking great, but on the other hand Sony could still just drag this out long enough to get real Adam stuff produced. Eh. I hope they do. I’m pretty much rooting for whatever Sony/BMG can do to these cockroaches.

  76. Yep, perfect song for Adam non-fans, sugary sweet repetitive chorus should do very well on Billboard especially in Middle-America!

Beautiful voice, I agree, Adam can sing anything! Still better than NB!

  77. How did Sony get it removed from sites though?

My guess is it was done because of the Ryan-AI connection. I think Ryan is probably obligated to play official 19 releases first.

  78. I still like hearing Adam sing this “new” song. It will probably be popular despite the fact that it’s not what his new stuff is supposed to sound like.

  79. Well, it seems that every word of that blurb on the Hi-Fi Recordings site is a lie, including the dates of the recording sessions and that he co-wrote many of the tracks. Adam should shut that site down immediately.

  80. It would be funny if this craptastic song became a hit à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ THAT would prove how much of a star Adam really could become.
I said something similar earlier. People’s comments on Perez were mostly positive about the song, lol! It may fall in line with another comment I made, about being desperate for ANY Adam music.

But now I’m having second thoughts about the whole thing, seeing as how Adam may not get one thin dime off of his own voice and performance. As a session singer it does sound like he may have been paid one flat fee with no royalty arrangement. The royalties would go to the songwriter, I presume. Seems so unfair to Adam after struggling so long. Further, from the EW comment, he is quite embarrassed at the idea this song would in any way represent him as an artist.

  81. So it was session work.

Oh, man à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not just the media glomming onto Adam now. No wonder he made his coattails detachable (random reference to his Reality Rocks interview).

ETA: Sunn, oh à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ you are right. It doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t say anything about stopping it. How did Sony get it removed from sites though?

    :lol_tb:

He really does need detachable coattails!!

Ryan’s site probably didn’t want to fight Sony when they asked him to take it down.

  82. At least Adam is keeping us all entertained as we are getting daily fixes! Something always happening in the life of Adam Lambert, he should have his on ‘soap opera’ :clap_tb:

  83. Aussie fan: One reason he was not picked-up, Adam insisting to be himself and not compromising with anything so early in his career. They probably recognized his talent but were afraid that his life style would turn people off and they  «chicken-out ». They were wrong, talent and honesty will transcend everything and now they come out of the woods!

  84. Ryan is still clueless he updated and said the tune was 8 months old when it’s actually a few years old. Ryan *slap* wake up!

  85. This sucks for Adam. I know I wont give them a penny. Maybe some illegal downloads for my curious mind.

  86. This is the continuing saga of Adam Lambert. Stay tuned next week for Chapter 34. What do we have in store for you? Ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s anybodyà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s guess, but it will be interesting.

    ain’t it the truth!

  87. Ryan has to tweet again because he said that song was eight months old. It was recorded five years ago!!

  88. Further, from the EW comment, he is quite embarrassed at the idea this song would in any way represent him as an artist.

I daresay this won’t be the last statement Adam makes about it. He’s the media darling right now so I expect we’ll be hearing more from him on it.

I hope that RCA and Adam can get a single ready for release early on in the tour so Adam can promote the hell out of it at every radio station he gets to visit the next few months.

  89. Adam is not selling himself as a song writer artist but as a performer. That was his Idol brand. And now, this just proves it. He sings other people’s songs and materials. This album coming out before his major label Lord Gaga-esque one sucks for Adam, but it’s not like people will care. He’s a performer. Doesn’t help his brand and it’s more over-exposure. But if comes out with a kick ass album or single in the fall, he should be okay…

No Boundaries is a better song.

It just proves that Kris Allen is the artist / song writer. All his pre-Idol stuff sounds and feels like Kris. So his new album should do quite well.

Now if that is the case isn’t that terrible! I’m afraid I have a very hard time dealing with discrimination of any kind. Like you say Talent is Talent whatever package it is wrapped in :biggrin_wp:

  91. That was a pretty good statement from Adam – it sounds like he wrote it himself too and not just the publicist from RCA.

Short and sweet – he was a hired voice 5 years ago, he didn’t write the (crap song) thing, his new album is nothing like it with emphasis on hot producers for his new album.

  92. Sashab-have you heard any of the preidol songs written or cowritten by Adam? I think they sound like him. Sorry, but No Boundaries and this song suck equally as hard. Also, since most idols first albums seem to be written by committee, I wouldn’t count at least each of their first releases to be totally THEM. I hope I’m wrong, but David cook’s album kinda proves my point.

  93. To clearone – don’t think that is possible. I wish it can be done that way. And normally, the first release the winner’s CD for the runner-up.

My heart is breaking for Adam. I am sad if this track can’t be put on-hold. I don’t want this to ruin his career.

BUT, VISIT YOUTUBE AND CHECK OUT ALL THE ADAM SONGS THERE. FABULOUS!!! LET’S NOT FORGET IT. ALL WE HAVE TO TELL PEOPLE TO REMEMBER HOW GOOD HE IS, IS TO POINT THEM TO YOUTUBE. LIKE THIS FOR EXAMPLE:

This sucks for Adam. I know I wont give them a penny. Maybe some illegal downloads for my curious mind.

Don’t worry. This song has already been downloaded by hordes of Adam fans, and I have no doubt that if they ever release an album it will also be available for illegal downloads in a matter of minutes.

Poor Adam, his struggle it seems continues. Just when his dream is just a bout to come true the leaches appear and suck the life blood right out of it. Poor boy, I really feel for him. This is such rotten luck.

  95. Adam is not selling himself as a song writer artist but as a performer. That was his Idol brand. And now, this just proves it. He sings other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs and materials. You can be all three, and Adam has proven to be two of those to me (I do really enjoy some of his pre-Idol songs, but I don’t know his track record as a songwriter overall–I will be aware of that when I get more material from him). I agree this doesn’t help with his image/brand, but I don’t see how this proves he isn’t an artist? Adam said he was a session singer at one point to pay the bills. That doesn’t negate who he is as an artist. It’s like having a day job while striving for your art; it’s just Adam’s “day job” was as a singer/performer, while most people tend to have more mundane jobs when they are struggling artists.

  96. To wiccagirl2009 – Archie released his single and album before David Cooke did, so, yep they can get something out there as soon as it is ready.

  97. “Adam is not selling himself as a song writer artist but as a performer. That was his Idol brand. And now, this just proves it. He sings other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs and materials.”

Umm, Adam does write his own songs. As stated previously, Crawl Thru Fire was one such, and it truly shows his style which he displayed throughout AI.

  98. *****It just proves that Kris Allen is the artist / song writer. All his pre-Idol stuff sounds and feels like Kris. So his new album should do quite well.***

Adam has great pre idol songs that he wrote, I don’t see how singing a few demos for cash is proof that he is not an artist.

  99. To ShasaB

As an Adam fan, i liked him because he is a total performer (talent, charisma, style, etc…) It doesn’t mean that one has to play instruments to be a music artist. Doesn’t follow. Music is all about the end result, the song that you hear.

Bottomline, i am one with Adam on everything he pursues in life. I pray for his success.

  100. I don’t know if RCA/Sony can do anything legally, but I would be surprised if they couldn’t put a lot of pressure on radio stations to ignore it, etc. The word will spread pretty fast that it was an old demo and people will probably just move on. However, I’m glad Adam jumped on this quickly with a statement before it got out of control.

btw. Adam is selling himself as a songwriter/artist AS WELL as a performer. He is writing songs for his album and exerting a lot of creative control. Of course, he’ll perform the hell out of everything, but it’s going to be “his” music that he performs.

  101. CindyM,

    Agree with you.

    SashaB,

I am forwarding this link to you. So you can have a better appreciation of adam’s music. I hope you like it, coz a lot of people do like it. But hey to each his own. I can post more of it if you want.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SJwlfcCMhI

  102. Ryan is so clueless sometimes – why would he even talk about this, wouldnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t he know betterà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬ ¦

Ryan tries to work 24-7, he is a work-a-holic, but you would think he might have an assistant to help him out? Or maybe just Ryan needing to stay in the AI spotlight post-Idol. As for Perez…….never mind.

  103. lol. I don’t understand why everyone is getting all upset. This happens all the time. I remember when this happened to Christina Agurillera. Its common sense that people are going to cash on other’s popularity. I will be SHOCKED if anything on this album gets any radio play.

  104. This sucks. This doesn’t add much to his brand. Hopefully, he gets better material in his Idol album.

  105. Thanks for the Adam links. Bottom line, this album is not good for Adam given what critic’s have said about him. I have no pony in season 8. To be honest, I’d like all the AI8’ers to be successful because it helps the overall Idol cred to have successful Idol alums. Abates any of the alleged Idol stigma. I don’t think it has to be Sophie’s Choice. So goodluck to Adam, Kris and Allison. It’s a tough world.

No matter how you spin this, it is not good for Adam to have this out there or marketed because if Seacrest and Perez thought this was his first single, what will casual Idol fans think? Again, if his first major label “real” album rocks, then he should be okay. But this is an unexpected and not good hiccup.

  106. I remember when this happened to Christina Agurillera.

When? Did it happen before her first album release? please unique28v say yes, it will make me feel better.

  107. I think/hope this is all much ado about nothing. After Adam’s statement, which will be read by millions, I don’t think much will come of this. I don’t think radio will be playing it, they listen to the music news.

Perhaps the best that will happen for this song is that it will be illegally downloaded. Wouldn’t bother me, as someone is trying to ride along with Adam. What next, poor guy?

This should also be an embarassment to Perez and Ryan IMO.

  108. Adam is not selling himself as a song writer artist but as a performer. That was his Idol brand. And now, this just proves it. He sings other peopleà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s songs and materials. This album coming out before his major label Lord Gaga-esque one sucks for Adam, but ità ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s not like people will care. Heà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s a performer. No Boundaries is a better song.

It just proves that Kris Allen is the artist / song writer. All his pre-Idol stuff sounds and feels like Kris. So his new album should do quite well.

Well, I think it comes under the heading of “making a living.” And preferring to make it in music, if possible.

If you’re barred from being considered an actual artist if you’ve ever sung/written/painted/played stuff that didn’t reflect your personal vision but was essentially contract work to pay the bills, then there aren’t many actual artists out there! A few people make it to the mid-20s without doing some kind of tacky contract work and/or living under a bridge, but not awfully darned many.

I assume Kris is one of the few, but who’s to say that his worship-leader gig isn’t a form of contract work for him? For all we know, that work doesn’t express his real musical vision either.

  109. I don’t think it’s all that bad. Some people liked it. Ok, I agree the melody and the lyrics sounds amatuerish. But he displayed great vocals. The fact that it is already being picked up on radio (as others claimed) is a good sign. This will disprove what other non-fans are saying that his voice is not radio friendly.

Also, this will ,in a way, keep Adam in the music scene while waiting for his album which will be a surprise for everyone. It is just equivalent to Kris’ No Boundaries (which also is a song that he doesn’t intend to sound like in his album). I’d like to think positive about this so that positive energy will set in.

  110. Okay, once again, I’m unplugged for like two hours and all hell breaks loose. How did I ever survive without being connected to this blog before? I’ve sped read all the comments and listened to the track and I have to say, “Guys, please don’t panic!” This is nothing. It’s ridiculous and my gut feeling tells me it will only end up working in his favor à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬’ again. it will be yet another PR coup for him (man, Glinda the good PR witch is working overtime … see, it pays to play Fiyero).

Yes, the song is fluff, but it’s not horrible and he sounds great. It will get either get him airplay or proliferate more press. I don’t think ANYONE is going to say, “Well, I heard that one song that one time and it wasn’t great.” Right. Because bottom line, he sounded amazing (as always) and he was likely a voice for hire. We all know he did studio work, which in the music industry, is considered elite.

If 19 and RCA decide to pursue the case (which they may do just for PR value), it will continue to keep Adam’s name in the press and keep everyone hungering for his first “official” album. And he’ll kill it.

  111. AussieFan, I would echo the sentiment of this comment on that website:

I don’t think that is Adam. The voice sounds different. I have heard a lot of his preidol stuff.

The timbre of the voice is just not like Adam’s at all. Just because it appears in Wikipedia doesn’t mean it’s true. . .

  112. @elw, you’re welcome. I truly believe that. He will be fine and I do not think this will affect his career in any way, other than further it. That being said, I hate that these leeches are coming out of the woodwork to cash in on his name. Then again, they rarely do that for losers.

I’m not 100% sure its him either but there are planty of comments saying they think it is!! Who Knows? Just thought it was interesting in light of everything else going on and how it was coming out in the news when I googled Adam for things appearing in the last hour.

I also think Adam will be fine. He’ll end up winning even his biggest doubters over ;o)

    Exactly!!

  115. When? Did it happen before her first album release? please unique28v say yes, it will make me feel better.

Yes. It was a HUGE thing. Her record company took them to court. She recorded songs when she was like 15 years old, so of course the quality wasn’t up to par. The name of the album is “Just Be Free”. Look it up. It doesn’t seem to like her any does it?

  116. This sucks. This doesnà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢t add much to his brand. Hopefully, he gets better material in his Idol album.

Does no boundaries help with Kris’s brand??? of course not, but its not going to hinder his future record sales. lol

    Great points Susan!!

  117. To wiccagirl2009 – Archie released his single and album before David Cooke did, so, yep they can get something out there as soon as it is ready.

From my understanding there is a window that the winner has over the other contestants. For example, say the window is two months after the tour. So if the tour ended Aug 31st, two months would be Oct 31st. That means on Nov 1st, Adam would be able to release an album whether Kris did or not.

  118. Just don’t buy the freakin’ song – it’s already available for download all over anyway (ex. just one of the links floating out there).

For a single it can be earlier. Archie’s single “Crush” was released to radio on 8/1/08, released for sale in 8/12/08.

David Cook’s single “Light On” was released on 8/30/08.

  120. From my understanding there is a window that the winner has over the other contestants. For example, say the window is two months after the tour. So if the tour ended Aug 31st, two months would be Oct 31st. That means on Nov 1st, Adam would be able to release an album whether Kris did or not.

There’s no such window. Last year, Kristy Lee Cook was the first out of the gate with a single and an album. Of course, it was a rush job and the album didn’t do very well. She parted ways with the label less than 6 months after signing with them.

Archie’s album came out a week before Cook’s.

Usually the winner is the first out with an album due to being the first one signed by a label. Last year the Davids were more or less signed by labels around the same time. Ditto for Kris, Adam and Allison this year.

  121. Adam’s vocals are still amazing, but the song… = =lll
I mean, unfortunately, I will probably buy this mediocre CD. Although I really don’t expect other songs would be better than this mediocre pop boring song, I still want Adan’s amazing vocals. Yes, this album will definitely create confusions for a lot of people, especially for those that are not Adam fans; it will only hurt but will not help Adam in any way, I believe it will not ruin the sales for Adam’s first debut album in a big way though.

From a business perspective, we cannot really blame on this record company, as they said, they have an opportunity presented to them and they have the rights, RCA cannot do anything about it, so why not ride with Adam’s fame and make some $?!

Anyway, I am not upset by this news, it’s common and understandable, and there is really no one to blame and nothing to do about it.

Btw, I have to say that No Boundaries is actually way better than this one.

  122. What I cannot get over is that apparently both Ryan Seacrest and Perez Hilton at first believed that this was a track from Adamà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s first post-Idol album. AS IF! That recording has the raw, unfinished quality of a cheap demo

Ryan has heard enough Idol debuts to know exactly how crappy they are. Was that your point? They are essentially demos with an Idol vocal laid in place over the demo music. I think that has been established over the years. The faster the turn around the less real creativity is involved and these things are coming out sooner and sooner.

  123. Just listened to “Want” on your site and I can tell it’s just a demo (idea of the song). But if it was taken past that stage to be totally rocked out it could be a great rock anthem ballad song..cause I love the lyrics and what they say!!! HOPEFULLY, Adam gets a chance to re-do the version of the song to truly represent him.
