ABC announced Monday (Aug 5) at the network’s Television Critics Association presentation that The Bachelorette, was picked up for its 16th season, and Bachelor in Paradise, will return for its seventh season.

Last week, the dramatic 15th season of The Bachelorette, featuring Hannah Brown, aired its shocking season finale with a surprise breakup and potential rekindled romance. The season finale telecast grew year over year by 17% among Adults 18-49 to post the show’s highest-rated telecast in two years and delivered a season-high 2.2 million total social interactions.

These “Bachelor” franchise properties join the already announced 24th season of The Bachelor, which will also return in 2020. During its 2019 run, featuring Colton Underwood, The Bachelor ranked as Monday’s No. 1 TV program in Adults 18-34, Women 18-34 and Women 18-49, standing as the night’s top-rated series on each of its 10 telecasts of the season.

ABC Entertainment president Karey Burke was asked at today’s TCA session about the potential for the first black Bachelor and said conversations about the new Bachelor are still ongoing: “I do think that the show has worked hard to increase diversity in its casting and is continuing to evolve. As that evolves, you will continue to see more diversity from the franchise moving forward.”

Meanwhile with Hannah Brown’s rejected suitor Tyler Cameron out and about on dates with reality star Gigi Hadid, host Chris Harrison warns that makes him less desirable as the lead for the next season of The Bachelor. “If Tyler is bouncing around from girl to girl and loving the life and enjoying the limelight, which, by the way, good on him. That’s fine. If that’s what you want to do right now, I don’t blame him. He’s probably enjoying life really, really well — but that’s not someone we’re going to want to have as our Bachelor or Bachelorette,” the host told Entertainment Tonight on Monday (Aug 5). “So, it’s about sincerity. It’s about where you are in your life. And if that’s where he is in his life, then he’s not the guy for us.”
