Deals deals, and more deals

During her stint as guest host yesterday on The View, Kellie Pickler announced that she had a record deal  with 19 Recordings/BNA Records, which is the country division of Sony BMG.  Kellie announced that her record would drop on November 14, leaving Idol watchers wondering about the release dates of the other Idols who have been signed by 19 Recordings.

According to this morning’s Variety, (you can read the article here in comments) CDs from  Taylor Hicks, Katharine McPhee and Kellie Pickler will all be released on the same day–November 14.  Chris Daughtry,  also signed by 19 recordings, has no firm release date yet.

Other Idol alums releasing albums this fall:   Clay Aiken’s third album is due September 19, Ruben Studdard’s third is scheduled for September 26 and Fantasia’s second CD for October 17.  Mario Vazquez who dropped out of the Top 12 season 4 is set to release his CD September 12.

Kelly Clarkson will release her third CD early next year.

In seasons past, 19 Recordings signed only the winner and the runner-up, with separate release dates for each CD.  This year, with at least 4 Idols signed to 19, management is taking a different marketing approach, releasing multiple CDs on the same day.  Taylor Hicks, as the winner, is not getting first crack.   Will all the Idol releases flood the marketplace with too much product at once?  Or will the big publicity push behind multiple releases benefit all the Idols’ releases?  It will be interesting to see how it all pans out.
