Jamie Scott on the Secret to Writing Hits for One Direction, Justin Bieber & Niall Horan
Jamie Scott is currently on his way back home from his Richmond, U.K. studio after a day with Canadian artist Royal Wood. “I’m working with him for a couple of weeks,” says Scott. “I’m a fan of his music, so we’re making a few records for his new album. He’s really cool.” If Scott’s track record is any indication, Royal Wood should brace himself for superstardom considering Scott’s eclectic discography as a songwriter is filled to the brim with career-defining or trajectory-changing hits.

It’s Scott, after all, who was with One Direction during their first-ever writing session and later guided them toward musical adulthood by helping radically change their sound from teen bubblegum pop to mature adult material. It was also Scott who gave One Direction’s Niall Horan his first solo hit with the thoughtful career-launching singer-songwriter jam, “This Town.” It was even Scott who contributed to Justin Bieber’s latest dance hit alongside Major Lazer and MO, “Cold Water.”

FIGHT TO THE FINNISH Sharon Osbourne snubs Saara Alto’s X Factor homecoming campaign in bitter blow just days before the final
The judge opted to fly to the US and leave the show’s host Dermot O’Leary to travel with her act to Helsinki for homecoming publicity campaign

SHARON OSBOURNE and SAARA ALTO haven’t exactly got a mother/daughter relationship.

Indeed, they’re more like distant cousins, a point proven by Mrs O’s reluctance to join her own act for her homecoming publicity campaign in front of 10,000 people, a huge show of force from Helsinki.

Days before the X Factor final, Sharon left host DERMOT O’LEARY to travel to Finland to meet Saara’s fans on Monday in favour of flying back to the US as she does every week.

It’s hardly the show of support Saara needed despite the fact she’s now favourite to win the show causing telly bosses to investigate whether votes are being cast from her homeland, which I revealed on Monday.

Speaking ahead of an X Factor sound check, she said: ‘We all have pieces of paper in front of us and it says “The person I’m sending home is…” and we fill them in then they take it.

Panto pull-out X Factor bosses forced to buy out winner Matt Terry from pantomime contract where he was set to play Peter Pan
Singer had set himself low expectations for the ITV contest which he eventually won on Sunday night
X FACTOR winner Matt Terry’s ambitions were so low when he auditioned for the show that he’d already signed up to do panto this Christmas.

ITV bosses were forced to “buy out” the singer from a local production in Barrow, Cumbria, where he was due to spend three months starring as Peter Pan.

Officials had to act quickly to get him out of a contract with Shone Productions when it became clear the 23-year-old waiter was heading for greater things.

The broadcaster paid an undisclosed sum to the small independent production company for the panto in the Lake District.

If ITV had not taken steps they would have been faced with a conflict in the now winner’s diary as he was due to star in the panto at the Forum Theatre, Barrow, from December to March.

Did the John Lewis advert help Matt Terry win The X Factor?
The fact that Terry performed a song featured repeatedly during ad breaks in The X Factor final may have influenced viewers to vote for him, say experts

On Sunday night, Matt Terry beat Saara Aalto to the 2016 X Factor crown in the closest final for five years.

Aalto, who had slowly gained ground on favourite Terry in previous weeks, was actually out in front when the voting was frozen after the first part on Saturday night.

But when the polls closed for the last time on Sunday, Terry had clinched it.

So what swung viewers back in his favour? One theory is that it was all down to his choice of song – and the fact that it was also the soundtrack to a certain Christmas advert that had been playing during the ad breaks on X Factor that night.
