X Factor shock: Judges will eliminate a quarter of the acts after first live show
Four acts will be axed from the X Factor this weekend – in a surprise twist for the show.

The live ‘finals’ of the hit ITV1 programme will begin tomorrow, with 16 acts – the most ever – making it through to this stage of the competition.

However, in a shock change of format revealed last night, a quarter of the acts will be eliminated on Sunday evening.

In another surprise development, there will not be a public vote this weekend.

Instead the mentors – Gary Barlow, Kelly Rowland, Louis Walsh and Tulisa Contostavlos – will each have to send home one of their own acts at the finale of the Sunday evening programme.

‘X Factor’ Top 16 prepare for live shows at rehearsals – pictures
Despite Kitty Brucknell assuring mentor Louis Walsh that she’d refrain from acting the diva, the X Factor contestant was seen covering her head with a pillow and refusing to be photographed by the paparazzi as she arrived for rehearsals at Fountain Studios earlier.

The 26-year-old performer, who recently admitted to Digital Spy that she felt “embarrassed” by her behaviour during Boot Camp, also forgot to put her shoes on properly as she was guided into the studio.

Amelia Lily debuted her pink hair while Misha Bryan could be hoping for brownie points from her mentor with a Kelly Rowland bag.

Is that how Tulisa will keep her group in line? X Factor judge manages to stay in control of her overeager rottweiler
X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos proved she’s as tough as she acts today when she kept a firm hold on her pet rottweiler.

The north-London born singer, 23, held tight on the dog’s lead as she paid a visit to the contestants from her group at the house they share.

Tulisa’s dog is still a young puppy, but they are bred to be strong and could easily have dragged the pint-sized singer to the ground.

Cheryl Cole is continuing on her quest to take over the world by adding yet another string to her bow.

The Girls Aloud singer is in talks to host a Channel 4 fashion-based show.

Having already sat in the judging chair on The X Factor, she has proved to be quite a natural in front of the cameras.

A source told The Sun: ‘Cheryl is hugely passionate about fashion – it’s the thing she loves most after music.

‘Channel 4 is working with her on a variety of ideas as she’s interested in doing something with a bit more depth than just a frivolous fashion show.’

While various ideas are still being discussed, the 28-year-old is keen to present a programme as she delves behind-the-scenes of the industry.

Susan Boyle – You Have To Be There – Official Video
The song is a cover from Kristina – a musical from ABBA’s Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus.

So…. Two shows that have done just fine after Simon takes a hike. Maybe he’s not as special as he thinks.

  • happyhexer

I’m sure I’m in a very small minority here at MJs, but I love Susan Boyle’s voice! In fact, Susan is the reason I ever got involved with American Idol in the first place (or ever discovered MJs), because I normally don’t watch TV. I saw Susan’s viral video, and started watching performance clips from Britain’s Got Talent during her season. That got me curious about Simon Cowell, because he seems pretty fair/decent as a judge on BGT, but I’d heard/read he was a real a$$hole as a judge on American Idol. Season 8 had just ended, but they still had performance clips up on AI’s website. The first video clip I clicked on, I was hooked on Danny Gokey. Watched Season 9 on TV. Very meh. Thought CaseyJ had the most potential. Also watched Season 10. Liked the top 4 + CaseyA & Naima (albeit maybe more for her dancing).

    Well, I’m rambling.

Yes, I bought Susan’s debut, and yes, I intend to get her new release. But I didn’t get her Christmas CD because I’m generally not into that by any artist. Only exception is Paris Bennett. Her Christmas CD is awesome! Too bad she didn’t take a similar musical direction with her debut CD. It was junk; only a couple of good tracks on the entire album.
