One Direction Makes History With No. 1 Debut on Billboard 200
U.K. pop vocal group One Direction makes history on the Billboard 200 albums chart as the first U.K. group to bow at No. 1 with a debut album. “Up All Night” enters atop the list with 176,000 copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

One Direction leads the way
In Natick, Mass., 5,000 fans mobbed a mall when the members of One Direction held an autograph signing there. In Nashville, dozens of girls chased the band’s car through the streets of Music Row. When the group performed live for the first time on American television last week, a New York crowd 10,000 strong prompted NBC’s Today show to employ security measures usually reserved for the likes of Lady Gaga or Bruce Springsteen.

One Direction make history as first UK group to hit No.1 spot in the US album charts with debut
The Wanted became the most successful UK boy band in America earlier this month when their track Glad You Came entered into the US charts at number five.

But fellow British band One Direction have made history as the first UK group to debut at No.1 on the BillBoard chart with their album Up All Night.

The previous highest entry for a UK group’s first album was number six – when the Spice Girls entered the charts with their album Spice in 1997.

X Factor’s One Direction make chart history in the USA
One Direction have made history in the US.

America is usually one of the toughest places for UK artists to crack but the boy band have made it look easy.

Their album, Up All Night, has reached number one on the Billboard 200 albums chart.

It makes them the first British band to top the charts with their debut, something even The Beatles failed to manage.

The band have given Newsbeat behind the scenes access to their promotional tour in New York.

One Direction top US album charts
Former X Factor contestants One Direction have become the first British group to go straight to the top of the US music charts with their debut album.

The group shifted 176,000 copies of Up All Night, which only went to number two in the UK charts back in December.

The five-piece act were formed in 2010 by the X Factor judges after they failed to impress as solo artists.

Band member Harry Styles said reaching number one was a “dream come true” for the group.

“We simply cannot believe that we are number one in America. We want to thank each and every one of our fans in the US who bought our album and we would also like to thank the American public for being so supportive of us.”

One Direction make transatlantic pop history with US No 1 album
British boyband become first UK act to top American chart with their debut
The debut album by One Direction, the boyband put together on The X Factor, has struck a blow for Britain by entering the the US album chart at No 1 – displacing Bruce Springsteen’s Wrecking Ball. Up All Night sold 179,000 copies in a week after an intense promotional blitz that had some excitable commentators comparing it to the Beatles’ first visit to the States in 1964. Its sales made One Direction the first British pop band to go straight in at No 1 in America with their first LP.

“Whenever we talk to people from the label they don’t know what’s going on – everyone’s just overwhelmed by the reaction,” the five-piece band’s chief heartthrob, Harry Styles, told the Guardian. “We’re just loving it.” He described his band’s achievement as “incredibly humbling”.

His bandmate Zayn Malik played down the Beatles comparisons: “It seems ridiculous for that sort of thing to apply to you – you laugh about it, someone comparing you to such a huge phenomenon.”

Hanging out’ with One Direction in the US
When One Direction finished third in the 2010 series of the X Factor TV show, they could not have predicted that they would become the first British group to go straight to number one in the US charts with their first album.

I had never heard of One Direction – five guys aged 17 to 20, from the UK and Ireland, who had known each other for less than two years after being put together on The X Factor. But now I have spent three long days with them in fancy New York hotels, as well as in black vans with tinted windows, radio-studio green rooms and a few dingy basements inside suburban shopping malls.

When we arrive outside a downtown studio, there is a long line of teenage girls whipping themselves into a frenzy, despite the cold.

Many have bunked off school for the day to spend 20 minutes in the proximity of Liam, Zayn, Niall, Louis and Harry.

One Direction’s US jaunt provokes war with the Wanted

The US success of former X Factor darlings One Direction has clearly riled at least one of their pop rivals
These days, we prefer all our wars to take place on foreign soil. It saves on cleanup and means we can get on with our daily lives in peace. Thus news that the Wanted and One Direction were slugging it out for chart supremacy in the US felt entirely apt. The Great Satan probably deserved to host a conflict, just on the Buggins’ turn principle, and we could enjoy the sanitised footage back home without experiencing the visceral horror and wondering why such young men were caught up in it all.

Alas, all is apparently not as it seemed. Admittedly, one of the Wanted was quoted in People magazine saying: “If you look at One Direction’s chart position and then look at ours, they’re not really even our rivals. We laugh and say that their fans are our fans’ younger sisters.” But the same Wanted – or is it Wantee? – has since fired off anguished tweets denying any friction. “When someone takes your words and twists them,” ran one, “its like a knife in the back #whathappenedtothe goodguys?!”

Love helps shape pop sensation One Direction
Manchester-based creative agency Love says it has played a part in the success of the boy band One Direction.

Tulisa obtains gagging order from the High Court after ‘sex tape’ hits the internet
A sex tape alleged to feature X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos has been banned from the internet after her lawyers obtained an injunction.

Lawyers on both sides of the Atlantic took swift action after the lewd video was uploaded on a website on Monday.

The injunction prohibits anyone from using, publishing or communicating or disclosing to any other person… all or any part of the film.

Furthermore, her representative Simon Jones told the MailOnline: ‘Tulisa has asked us not to comment on speculation about her personal life.’

The ‘tape’ first appeared on a website available to download for £3.90 on Monday morning and caused a social media frenzy.

The six minute film, taken from a camera phone, shows a blonde performing a sex act.

Tulisa faces backlash from fans as she releases suggestive video for We Are Young… just days after ‘sex tape’ leak
In showbusiness there are two sayings often repeated, there is no such thing as negative publicity and timing is everything.

Just days after an explicit sex tape was leaked online and 24 hours after Tulisa took a vicious swipe at her ex MC Ultra for betraying her over their ‘intimate moment’, the singer has released her debut single Young.

Along with the catchy lyrics, including ‘forgive me for what I have done’, the song comes with a rather suggestive video, showing the singer licking up ice cream with her tongue.

Perhaps unsurprisingly her fans have taken to Twitter, accusing the 23-year-old of orchestrating an elaborate stunt to grab their attention.

‘I actually like your gold shower cap!’ Singer who performs Evanescence in four giant wings is surprise hit on Britain’s Got Talent
Britain’s Got Talent kicked off once more tonight, offering the usual selection of weird, wonderful, and often terrible performances from the thousands of hopefuls taking a shot at the £500,000 prize.

And it’s safe to say that though he might not have been the most vocally gifted hopeful on the show tonight, one contestant in particular left the judges stunned.

Dennis Egal, a 43- year-old window dresser from Germany- astonished the panel and audience with his extremely unorthodox performance of Evanescence’s Wake Me Up Inside.

Despite having buzzed ‘no’ seconds into his performance, Simon Cowell said: ‘This is totally bonkers, but another side of me says because I’ve never seen this before and I’m kind of intrigued by you, I’m going to say yes.’

Who needs The Voice of reason, when you can have Cowell’s razzmatazz
Lovers of coincidence might find it timely that ITV1 is launching its latest costume drama Titanic tonight. Because only last night ITV teamed up with Simon Cowell to plant an enormous iceberg in front of the BBC’s new multi-million-pound musical flagship, The Voice UK.

Like a well-fuelled gipsy wedding conga rampaging through a genteel tea dance, Britain’s Got Talent returned, hellbent on spoiling the party. And even if you don’t care for Cowell’s brash approach, at this early stage there seems little point in the BBC’s band playing on.

Yes, Britain’s Got Talent may once again have been over-scripted, over-edited, over-contrived, overly-pleased-with-itself teen-movie nonsense. And yes, the actual talent on display may have left a lot to be desired – especially that gladiator impersonator who really should have called himself Tedious Maximus.

But with memories of last year’s damp squib still fresh in the mind – I mean, can you even remember who won? – this first episode must go down as a refreshing lick of paint. Cowell, of course, had already won the pre-show publicity battle – although that wasn’t too difficult a task given the way 90 per cent of entertainment reporters buckle at the knees if he so much as looks at them across a crowded screening room.
