X Factor 3 Top 16 Spoilers (UPDATED) (VIDEOS)

The X Factor Top 16 was chosen from a group of 40 contestants in front of a live audience on Sunday and Monday in Los Angeles. Here’s a list of The Top 16 and the original Top 40 from the spoiler thread at Idol Forums

This live round is new–replacing boot camp and the judges houses. Contestants were assembled for Boot Camp a few weeks ago, only to be told it was cancelled.  The 200+ contestants were assembled on stage, and the Top 40 were announced.

The new live Final rounds have a twist.  If a singer was safe after a performance, their mentor asked them to take a seat on stage. However, if  the mentor liked another singer better later on in the round, they could eliminate a contestant already declared safe to make room for the new contestant. Oh the drama!

X Factor premieres on WEDNESDAY September 11!

  • Kesia Monteith

Yeah, James Kenney! So happy he is back :)

  • No Thanks

Wasn’t that Jeffrey Gutt dude from last year as well?

  • Montavilla

Manufactured Girl Group called “Sweet Suspense” (Celine Polenghi (Put into Groups), Millie Thrasher (Put into Groups), and Summer Reign (Put into Groups)) (INTO LIVESHOWS. Classified by spies as a young Fifth Harmony.

A young Fifth Harmony? How do you get younger than Fifth Harmony? Are they embryos?

  • shell29

Me too! I was so disappointed when they cut him before-glad he’s back.

  • shell29

I think so…his name sounds familiar.

  • Franky

I’m almost positive he is the one that brought his son on stage after his audition. He was really hoping to make it for him, cried a lot when when he was cut (the father, not the son)

  • No Thanks

    12 – 13??

  • Incipit

Wait, wasn’t that the guy who sang “Hallelujah” as if he had actually read the lyrics, and knew what the song was about? It was such a novel concept, the name stuck in my memory – also because I thought he had an unfortunate last name for the a$$hats online to make fun of.

Almost sure this was the dude.

ETA: Yes, it was him. In 2012.

  • julia

I’ve heard this group is amazing. a fifth harmony fan that went to the taping is terrified by Sweet Suspense lmao.

  • julia

from what I heard, the talent is great this year. I’m excited

  • julia

    yes, it’s him

  • Anny_nanny

Delete. Franky gave a links to a video.

  • Franky

    I found some YouTube’s :)

Feel free to add… (I’m just going by name so I apologize if I got someone wrong)

    From Paulina’s crop-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sCvsfwIm2yA <- Josh Levi

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4DKzg6BCWUo <- Carlito Olivero

Couldn't find anything on Carlos or Tim.

    From Demi's crop-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MEvVmVWYB4 <- Ellona Santiago

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ct2C3ly3sfc <- Khaya Cohen (I think)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U5UaPAWsz8c <- Rion Thompson

    Couldn't find anything on Danielle.

    From Simon's crop-

For Alex & Sierra, I don't know which one of these they are….

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BSewdu4ciuk

    or

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qIWgKl-3aO0

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ga4n1liBTnk <- RoXxy Montana

Not gonna post vids of the members of the manufactured groups but you can find SOME (not all) of the members if you search around. Obviously, the male group is country singers and the girls are very pop and very Fifth Harmony-like.

    And finally, Kelly's crop-

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fnmmetOpjg <- James Kenney

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBKuWF-JQAQ <- Jeffrey Gutt

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cT7JaXwHPA4 <- Rachel Potter (I'm not entirely convince if this is her because she seems quite popular, especially with Broadway songs and stuff ???)

    Couldn't find anything on Lillie.

Like I said, feel free to add if you guys find stuff and sorry if anyone is wrong. I did my best. :)

  • julia

simon said in an interview a while ago that girls was the best category. but looks like the overs are really strong. boys is gonna be the weakest category. i imagined they would give the weakest category to paulina anyway.

  • Jason Gorny

This is the same as the XFactor UK Bootcamp. Looking forward to seeing this!

  • Amy Beth

Interesting that they get a Latin judge, and BOOM, 2 of her 4 finalists have rather Hispanic names. Same thing happened with Shakira on the Voice–all of a sudden there were more Latin auditioners.

  • Jason Gorny

I remember Simon saying that he regrets cutting him last year.

  • http://www.mjsbigblog.com/ mjsbigblog

Alex and Sierra – It’s the first video you posted. They were part of the preview I watched.

Thanks for digging up the videos, I’m adding them to the post now.

  • gem2477

It should be good. I’ll be sure to tune in :)

  • Ari

Im already hating the show …Not sure Im even going to give it a third chance. Three strikes and youre out. If you want to shake things up a bit, why do you give the 2 returning judges the same exact categories they had last year? And stop with the manufactured groups. Yes youve had massive success with 1D but why have a group category if you cant find a decent duo or group? Every season, it seems at least half the category is made up of singers who werent good enough to make it on their own. Its just silly. And the new format doesnt make it sound that much more interesting. Judges house always seemed ridiculous, especially since they were rented homes.

  • Ari

So the girl with the deformed hands is going to be this years sob/backstory. I hope she made it because she was a better singer not because of sympathy

  • LeoCS

Jeffrey Gut is that rocker single dad with a raspy voice, right? he’s probably gonna win this year.

  • carla

lol one is 17 and the other two are under 14 I think.

  • carla

the girls is a strong category but they’re all so young. I think it’s groups can stand out, with that country boy group. who’s gonna defeat it.

  • JudinNH

    He was wonderful last year!

  • John Rocketship Potter Clayton

Rachel Potter is from Orlando. I know who she is. I have mutual friends with her. She’s done some music theatre stuff, and has worked for Disney before. She also has an indie album out I believe.

  • julia

well carly was 13 and almost won last year. we never know :)

  • Karen C

Yes, he was on last year. I’m glad he’ll be back, I really liked him last year. I saw some of his covers on youtube and he’s terrific, they were mostly alt rock. I really hope he gets a chance to show what he can do this season.

  • Bluebeat

Some ‘familiar’ faces in the live shows this year including Adam Gutt(yes). Nice, so another inTENsity member is going through to the live shows. Last year we had Arin Ray and now its Ellona this year.

  • Bluebeat

Yeah but Shakira’s latin singers didn’t even make it to live shows..

  • Sassycatz

This is what I don’t understand. Aren’t there actual groups trying out? The Sing-Off manages to find groups, even if they’re fairly new groups. They do show up to audition as a group, I assume. I just don’t get that.

  • Kesia Monteith

Before One Direction was formed on the season they were on in the UK X-Factor, they usually auditioned already formed groups, and never have attempted to form one on the show itself of solo singers (at least, not what I could recall). The only fully formed group pre-xfactor that has seen great success is JLS. Usually, the already formed groups are not all that great. But that’s what I could tell from video clips and reading about early seasons.

The season that One Direction was on I assume is where Simon wanted to start using the show to form his own creation. (although, I heard putting solo singers together was Nicole’s idea when she guest judged *shrug*) With the success of 1D, I guess they wanted to continue to form groups, as fully formed groups that entered the show wasn’t always up to snuff.

  • jork

Thanks for posting this mj, and spreading the word.

I identified the “Tim” in my thread by the way as Tim Olstad, a 24-year soulful guy in Paulina’s team.

By the way, if you guys have trouble identifying certain contestants, you can click on the idf spoiler thread (the first post) and there’s links to each name.

I’ll probably have more comments from my spies for each of the contestants coming soon, so keep checking back if you feel inclined =)

  • Wally.

    Interesting to note:

In XFUK the producers/judges also did form a girl group and spies/sources have said they were incredible/amazing etc now XFUS has formed Sweet Suspense as well and the spies are saying the same thing.

I just find it interesting. Possible TCOs from both shows? Atleast for the groups?

I also hope Rion does not win. I believe XFUS needs to find a global superstar WINNER to become legitimate and i think they COULD do it with this cast because the cast is pretty good/diverse I got to say.

  • Vetle Hovland

I actually remember Ellona from inTENsity. I also remember her being really good.

  • jms

From the auditions today, it looks like Carlito, Alex and Sierra, Lillie, and Rion made it. I haven’t seen Alex and Sierra but I’m pleased with the other three, and especially that James Kenney and Jeffrey Gutt (who I thought was…. well, “Gutt”ed last season) are back.

  • Kesia Monteith

Of the spoilers of the Overs I’ve seen this week, (making it to live shows) I can’t help but feel James Kenney may be the only non “ringer”. I’ve seen performances of him in clubs, and he’s been doing EPs I think, but Lillie and Rachel have plenty of showbiz experience. Don’t know much about Jeff, but have a feeling we’ll find out. Heh ;)

  • ptslittlecomment

She also had two supporting roles on Broadway ( “Mistress” in EVITA and “Wednesday Addams” in the ADDAMS FAMILY), toured as “Glinda” in one of the National Tours of “WICKED, has a video on CMT online and was nominated for an Independent Music Award.

  • Cary Gonzalez

Jeffrey Gutt all the way, the guy is amazing!

  • Chloe Wilson

Glad that Alex & Sierra made it. I like them.

  • Cory Patrick

So Simon has groups again? Didn’t he have them last season? I thought they were suppose to switch around.

  • Dexter

I believe “Danielle” Geimer should be “Danie” Geimer. She auditioned tonight and was amazing!!! One of my favorites. So far, I like Danie and Alex/Sierra the most.

  • carola99

Yay. So happy Carlos made it…

  • dems121

question how did they found out who is their mentor ? I mean are they even know or acts still don’t know.. because if they know does that mean there is no jouges houses this season ?

  • ashley perk

Shouldn’t the judges decisions be kept in private, why would they announce who’s going thru in front of a live audience, of coarse they will boo if there favorite didn’t get thru but they are the judge not the audience…Stupid how they switched timmy thames for tim olstad just because of having an audience reaction…This season is pissing me off so far..

  • Jon Glass

HOW DID RION GET IN AND BRANDIE LOVE DIDN’T?

  • dems121

are we sure Demi got girls ? because going by her reaction in new promo it doesn’t look like she is happy tbh

  • Kevin J McMonagle

Why are there only 9 girls in the Top 40 instead of 10?

  • litdgram

I so agree Jon. She was awesome. I guess she just didn’t have a sob story!!

  • litdgram

    where is Brandie Love.

  • iluvai

I like all of the girls in the top 40. I wish they all made it. eta: I do like Rion but don’t think she should have made it past some of the other girls in the top 40. I think she served her purpose in the auditions. I know that sounds harsh.

  • Jon Glass

It doesn’t sound harsh! We can’t give people free full rides because they have special needs or something wrong with them. As mean as it sounds, everyone should be treated the same. That is all they want as well. To be treated normally.

  • Jon Glass

You know, Cece was called and asked to audition. She did a free m&g in St Louis and told us she didn’t have to do cattle call. I find this very interesting!

  • Aswen Sri

Why isn’t Primrose on the list of the top ten girls?????

  • valeegirl

I think X-Factor would be better off if they focused the whole show on finding “Second Direction”… groups are really the only thing that distinguishes this show, and I find it to be quite entertaining. and LOL at the way they pretend that Simon didn’t know he was going to coach the groups!

Haven’t read all the comments in this thread, but I am looking forward to the “4 chairs” elimination – even though I thought the Judges Houses schtick was the best part of previous seasons.

  • T Fan

    A few minor corrections:
On the top 10 boy’s list, the name Devin Guisande is incorrect & should be replaced with Isaiah Alston. For the top 10 girls, Hannah Johnson is incorrect & should be replaced with Primrose Martin.

    A few minor additions:
The duo in the manufactured boy group, Forever In Your Mind, is called,
Co-Ed. The are not brothers. They are (1) Jon Klaasen (15yo, from
Greenwood, IN.), and (2) Ricky Garcia (14yo, from San Antonio, TX.)

BTW, excellent reporting on these spoilers. I love it!

  • Wally.

jork does not mention Al getting switched out cuse I seem visbliy in the chair in this video. However, HE HAS been very accurate n the past so i guess we’ll see. The teenage grls are already crying.. lol

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ChTtFLlTaUk&feature=player_embedded

  • Emiliano

I like Ashly Williams! Why she isn’t in the top 16? :_ I’m so sad!

  • Whatiswrongwithus

The Overs seriously look like a strong category…

  • Charlie Goot

Why did Paulina had to cut Al Calderon! :C He was way better than Tim Olstad :C Actually, I think he’s the one she switched him with.

  • ashley perk

Hannah johnson didn’t make it thru in the girls category, you missed Primrose Martin!!

  • Chad

ashly williams should have moved on

  • Luv Support

Al Calderon is purely looks, Tim had a way better voice

  • Luv Support

It says Simon Cowell told her she wasn’t any good, I was like “what the actual fuck simon?”

  • Sarinha Fernandes

:( chase não passou, muito triste.. torcia por ele ://

  • Blirel

    also #teamellonaranosnatiago #teamalexandsierra my favs!

  • kyubunny

Lillie McCloud should be the most familiar out of all of these singers. She’s Nicole McCloud, an r&b artist from the 80’s. Her last album was in 2002! I’m surprised they haven’t touched on her experience or over-qualifications in the show; not that she was ever that commercially successful prior to.
