Whitney Houston Offered Seat on X Factor Panel (Report)

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that Whitney Houston has been offered a spot to take the place of vacating judges, Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger. The legendary pop diva is said to be considering an offer.

Whitney was spotted at a pre-Grammy bash on Thursday, hosted by singer Kelly Price at TRU Hollywood, where she reportedly clashed with X Factor contestant, Stacy Francis The 48-year-old diva is also expected to appear at Clive Davis’ annual pre-Grammy party on Saturday.

Even off drugs, Whitney strikes me as still pretty cray cray. If she’s supposed to bring an element of unpredictability to the panel, then I suppose she’s the right choice.  I can’t imagine her as a level-headed mentor of hopefuls.  Maybe she’ll surprise me.

On the other hand, this report could just be Simon trying to get some buzz going for his show.

Does Whitney have any buzz these days?  This seems like a really strange choice.

“On the other hand, this report could just be Simon trying to get some buzz going for his show.”

    Really? He would do that?

  • Anonymous

How strange that would be she’s so fried its way past funny!!

  • Anonymous

Doesn’t Whitney always have a buzz? ;) That seems to be the root of her problems.

  • Anonymous

Probably the first of 100 other names that will be floating around.

  • Anonymous

Interesting. She involved in some “drama” with an X Factor UK contestant. Apparently, Simon got special permission to use an unreleased song from her album “I Look To You” for a contestant, but, according to the contestant (Danyl Johnson) what really happened was that the song choice made Whitney Houston angry and Whitney was apparently horrible to Danyl about choosing that song.

For some reason, that makes it hard for me to see this happening.

  • Anonymous

hm I’m not thrilled at all for this. Might be like S10fan said, one of 100 names floating around haha.
They should bring back Cheryl Cole

they REALLY SHOULD bring Cheryl Cole back. Love her.

BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!  *excuse me while I wipe the tears of laughter from my eyes. Ok. All done.* BWHAHAHAHAHAHA!!

SeriouslY?  Whitney? I will admit I’d watch her for the train wreck potential. But, I can’t believe for a second that it’s true.  Whitney is far to grand a diva for such a gig. I keep cracking up, though, because I picture her leaping on the stage during auditions, shoving the contestant aside and announcing, “THIS! Is how it’s done! Bobby Christina? Join me, won’t you? LalaLALAAAAAAALAAAA!”

  • Jewlmc

Yes, they should bring back Cheryl…..

To the UK version. Nobody gives a crap about her here. Sorry.

    Scary, scary prospect.

  • hcpoirot

Simon had to considered that judges at X Factor also be mentoring the singers. He had to find judges that seems to care mentoring their singers. (Or at least pretend to care in front of the camera)

Whitney 100% is not the caring type.

But whats new? Simon is a fool. He fired Paula the only judge that seem had genuine care of her singers in season 1. And did not fired himself and LA Reid, who seem just giving crappy songs to their singers and yapping at each others in the panel round.

  • hcpoirot

I do think Simon and at some extend Nigel are too delusional about themselves. Even if Simon did not appear as judge in X Factor USA and Nigel in So You THink USa, I do not think the ratings will plummet down. But they just love to see themselves in front of TV. They had to admit that their fame time in front TV is over. Deal with it and make a better talent show competition.

You beat me to the punch! I’m sure we will be hearing about potential people up to a week before the show goes on the air next fall.

  • http://twitter.com/ladymctech ladymctech

I want to see Whitney decide whether to vote or let the decision go to the public. Lots of potential for cray cray there. And we thought Nicole was bad!

Just throw all the cards in now and make Cecile Frout-Coutaz a judge.  She helped ruin the show with inept production input, why not put her front and centre so she can go down with the ship.  its not like there is going to be a 3rd US season anyway.  Have Simon’s team of kneeling sycophants take over hosting duties.  They can host the show while huddled around Simons ankles like they did in his crass french villa.  Might as well get all the losers and hangers-on in front of the camera.  So put that ego-inflated choreograher as the announcer, because, if he cant tastefully choreograh a 70 second song, he surely must be a great announcer, right?

Hum, Whitney as a judge/mentor.  Not sure I’d want to be on the receiving end of either option.

  • Anonymous

Does anyone under 30 know who she is?

  • Anonymous

The only thing I know about the lady is she’s a diva and she can’t act. This is either a disaster in making or the greatest thing to ever happen to the show. They should have kept Paula. She was the best.

  • http://www.facebook.com/mcwoods85 Matthew Woods

If they want ratings they should hire someone who IS a star not WAS. There is a certain lady who is taking a break from singing and yet is still a huge star. Her name ADELE. Hire Adele she would be AMAZING!!

  • http://twitter.com/bignliddle BigNLiddle

Um, Whitney’s reality show with Bobby Brown was even more of a train wreck than Paula Abdul’s.

  • http://twitter.com/KariannHart Kariann Hart

Adele would be great, but working with Simon is a chore.  Why would she take it?  I’d like a female judge who wouldn’t take his baloney.  Maybe someone like Cyndi Lauper  I heard she was a joy to work with when appearing on American Idol.

  • getgetaway

Adele is currently is an A-list pop star and I only see her career soring.  I see no good reason as why she would be a judge on a reality TV show.

  • Anonymous

She needs the cash.  I can see her doing this.  It costs a lot of money to keep herself and “BO-BEEEEE!” in the quantity of drugs they are used to.

And trainwreck is right.  This woman is a mess.  Gawd, I feel sorry for that kid of theirs.

  • Anonymous

That would be a big mistake.  She’s always out of the frying pan into the fire with both her personal an professional life.

  • http://twitter.com/RonnieDRocks Ronnie D

I don’t think she is with Bobbie anymore. I also don’t think she would be able to handle the stress. It’s sad what Whitney has become, she was one of the best singers ever when she was in her prime.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_SYFK77IYLRQIVATQ2MJKSW2J7Y Pam

Honestly, I don’t see this as a good idea.  I think Simon would be better off to bring back Cheryl.

  • Anonymous

Can’t believe they don’t get it (if this proves true). Secret “The Voice” found – “contemporary.” Like it or not, it’s fun to watch – and the judges are charting in this decade, not the last decade. Or the 90′s. In addition to revamping their format, X-factor needs to cast artists from today as judges…

  • Kirsten

When Whitney doesn’t generate enough cray-cray and ratings, is he going to sign up Lyndsey Lohan and have her mentor from jail?

Whitney needs to take care of Whitney before she takes a soul-sucking job like this one. Simon should try to find a likeable, opinionated star who has had hits, but needs to break back into the market. Somebody who will stand up for themselves. Then, he needs to treat them with respect.

  • chessguy99

XF is to much of a time commitment. The audition shows are done during the prime summer touring season, and require a four day commitment each. The Voice is a good gig for current artists as the audition and battle rounds take only two weeks to tape, and its done in the lull of Nov/Dec. Then the judges have two months of TV time, right before the summer touring season starts. For current artists, The Voice is a career enhancement, where XF actually is at best a no loss situation; the hype of the show countered by the time taken away from touring.

Cheryl and Whitney ..craze,crazy talent with charm, and cuteness. :) I’d watch the show to see how that worked out. :)

  • larc

I think Simon needs to look first for somebody who is fully capable of handling the judge/mentor job.  If XF is really about the contestants as is claimed, that’s more important than whether somebody is or has been a big star.  Some washed up diva like Whitney, who can’t even manage her own affairs capably, would bring nothing of value to the game.  Even though she’s still relatively young, I see her more as one of music’s Norma Desmonds.

  • Anonymous

Not a fan. Took the kids to see her years ago and she lip synced the whole show. I would have walked out but they wanted to see her. At one time she was a huge talent but she chose Bobby Brown and the road to nowhere. She needs to stay there. I want Paula back (the other 2 I’m happy to see go). Shame on FOX. X Factor is going to continue to be 3rd rate in this country…and… before some one tells me how many viewers they had just remember nothing else was on the tube! Of course we watched!

  • Anonymous

Absolutely.  If a woman who is not really strong appears on that show, I am unlikely to watch it, because I don’t think the purpose of female judges  is to satisfy the Cowell need for verbal abuse.  I would like to see a really respected female rocker in the job, but I don’t think it likely to happen.  Too bad, b/c there are some interesting personalities.

  • Listening

Umm yeah Whitney might be washed up/past her prime/ or simply notably less popular but wasn’t every female judge or male judge for that matter. I mean unless they were totally unkown Randy and Kara from Idol.

Christina and JLo where clearly waning stars before the voice and Idol. I believe both their singles before they were hired onto shows had floped/ under performed.  They were ridiculed too Jlo for her performance during an award show where she fell and Christina for a song where in her video people thought she was trying to copy lady gaga. It’s only after their shows they became hot commodities again, especially in regards to Jlo she blew up and is like endorsing everything.

I don’t care how many times Whitney has gone to rehab or been mixed up in drugs she seems clean now and is trying to change America loves a good redemption story. Chris Rene became beloved by America and he didn’t even have the adoration Whitney has had w/ the public. I think America will take to her and she’ll bounce back into the limelight. I love to see her as a judge but I bet you it wont happen.

  • Anonymous

Whitney would bring nothing to the show.  I’m not even sure the show brings anything that would make anyone want to be a judge/mentor on it.  To me, it was DOA.  Simon is beginning to sound like Charlie Brown’s teacher to me, mwaa mwaa, mwaaa.  I’ll just wait and see what he brings forward when the season starts and skip his attempts at “buzz” by mentioning potential judge replacements on what may become a weekly basis.  Yawn.

  • Anonymous

I’ve got it!!!  A current female star who never tours and would not take any crap from Simon…….SuBo.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_VCEZD3N6FHT6AVC6TG7VKTBONQ Raftrap

I’ve said this a million times, but I have to say it again, it’s not about being known, it’s about being right for the show. I don’t think there’s anyone more known in the world than freaking Ellen DeGeneres and she did great on “Idol” remember?…exactly, Simon Cowell was an unknown a decade ago, I had no idea who Blake Shelton was when “The Voice” started, ditto with Cheryl before XF USA started, big names don’t necessarily translate to great reality TV judges. It’s infinitely better to see these relative unknowns with charming personalities every week. So bring Cheryl Cole back already and stop the unnecessary second guessing.

  • Anonymous

At least the entire panel will be eligible for social security if the show is cancelled.

  • larc

LOL!  Afraid she wouldn’t work, though.  They at least need somebody who’s conscious.

Isn’t she taking over Paula’s slot though?

Simon is so wrong to want to bring in even bigger names as judges.  The show needs to be about the contestants, not the judges.  Why not Tony Bennett, Barry Manalow, Barba Streisand, Patti LaBelle (she’d be a hoot!), Gladys Knight, Dolly Parton (another hoot!), or numerous others who peaked decades ago?

    2 words. train. wreck.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Why on earth would Adele accept a position on the X-Factor?  She’s the top pop artist in the world right now who also composes her songs and there’s no way that she would even consider such a position.  Hopefully, Simon wouldn’t be that deluded to even tender an offer to her.

  • fuzzywuzzy

Yeah, Whitney would be a disaster as a judge/mentor.  As for getting someone who will stand up for themselves and Simon treating them with respect?  I don’t think that either will ever happen.  Simon probably thinks that patronizing and insulting the female mentors is entertaining.

  • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_ACMLXLYSSX73RNYQOUZWSO2I4U Enough already!

Ha!  bring in another train wreck to this already train wreck.   Hey why not hire Bobby also, then let the sparks fly.   Think Bobby has new wife, hire her also.   Make this a family affair.  Whitney doesn’t sound all that together at the moment, or for that matter ever.   Too bad, because she’s a natural born talent!

  • Anonymous

UGH. If Simon’s srsly considering Whitney, he’s more out of touch than I thought.

  • Anonymous

Whitney has been through everything in the music business and knows how to have a successful career and be a great singer.  I totally think she could mentor tv show contestants in starting a musical career.

  • Anonymous

REALLY??? I can’t imagine a bigger train wreck waiting to happen. Then again, maybe THAT is the goal.

No, it is real, so shocking and sad.

  • Karen C

Simon Cowell was just on CNN and he said he was going to talk to Whitney about the X Factor on Monday.

  • sdmama

This has to be the craziest thread we have on this site.  I did not expect Whitney to die all of a sudden while we debate if she is a good candidate for X-Factor or not. I had no idea that she was sick/in trouble.  Very sad for her mother and child.

  • Axxxel

I read somewhere that she partied very hard the night before she passed away… Still, her passing is a great loss… I could have seen her as a guest judge/mentor though… Condolences to her family and friends.
