The Voice 5 Top 8 Results, Recap, Videos

Tonight, 8 will become 6 on The Voice as two more contestants are eliminated from the competition.

Plus, CeeLo Green performs “Amy” from the Goodie Mob’s latest album, “Age Against the Machine.” And British pop star Ellie Goulding will sing “Burn” from her album “Halcyon Days.”

I’ll be liveblogging right here!

I assumed Matthew had a fan base that would save him from the bottom 3, but I guess not. Are The Voice fans so casual, that contestants live or die by the strength of their performances? Two weeks ago, he was at the Top of the iTunes chart. This week, he was nearly eliminated.  I’ll admit I stopped what I was doing to twitter vote for Matthew.

The right two people went home. Poor Caroline Pennell. I always felt she was limited. Once Cee Lo stupidly began giving her songs out of her lane, she began to falter. Now, if she had Blake Shelton as a coach, he would have figured out what worked for her and STUCK WITH IT. She might have made the finals.  Now Cee Lo is without a team. he brought that on himself. He’s the worst.

Ray Boudreaux had a longer run than I expected.  He, Cole Vosbury and Austin Jenckes, all Americana artists, were vying for the same spot. Cole won that three way weeks ago, so it was just a matter of time. I know it seems cynical, but I suspect Blake wasn’t trying as hard with Ray. What else would explain this week’s terrible song choice. Up to this week, Blake was careful to pick songs that worked for Ray.

At this point, with how crazy the bottom 3 and eliminations have been, this competition is anyone’s game. It’s going to depend on how the contestants perform week to week.  None of the remaining 6 artists can coast.

Blah blah recap is first. Hilarious hearing compliments for performances that really weren’t good (I’m looking at you: Matthew, Caroline).

The show has surpassed 15 million downloads since the show began. Every download from now on will count for the person’s cumulative total.

Ellie Goulding takes the stage first to sing “Burn.” The band’s kinda loud. Or she needs to be mixed up higher. Still, I like her angelic voice. She’s joined on stage by James Wolpert, Will Champlin and Matthew Schuler to sing backgrounds.

Filling time with the coaches: Adam feels really strong about his team. Hm. You might lose Tessanne. Cee Lo is very proud of Caroline. No one can argue with her talent! He’s ok with being the underdog. Christina refuses to divulge her strategy. Her heart will be broken if she loses a team member. Blake feels good about what Cole and Ray did. Nobody deserves to go home, but somebody must.

The Top 8 take the stage for the eliminations. He chats with them first. Zzz. This is too boring to transcribe. OK. The first artist whom America saved IS Will Champlin! No surprise there.

Carson in the Sprint Skybox with Ellie Goulding. They discuss EDM. She admits that she never had a singing lesson. “Burn” was a big hit in the UK. Performing with the guys was like being in a boy band, she says.

The Top 8 take the stage for a special holiday performance of “Will the Circle be Unbroken.” YEEEE HAW. This is kind of awful, but their hearts are in the right places. There’s a choir of middle aged people singing behind them.  We’ll find out who they are soon, I’m sure.  It’s the Starbuck Chorus. Really? From Starbucks? I’m confused.

The 7 remaining contestants await their fate on stage.  Each of the contestants are asked what it is they’ve learned from their coaches. It’s basically an opportunity to do some ass kissing. Alright. The next contestant saved by America is…Cole Vosbury. Also? Not a surprise.

Blake and Adam beat the First Family in a poll asking who responders would like to share Thanksgiving with. WHAT?

Now, Cee Lo Green takes the stage to sing Goodie Mob’s “Amy.”  No contestants join him on stage.  He’s creepily dancing with background dancers dressed as circus-mimes lowered from the ceiling.

Time for a The Voice confessional. I’ll have the video later. Tess is really from Boston. She’s wicked cool (Not bad with the accent there girl). These are conspiracy theories. True or not? And impressions.

Six remain. Caroline just got her first college acceptance letter. That’s a very good thing. The next artist saved by America IS…Jacquie Lee. Still no surprises. TELL ME SOMETHING I DON’T KNOW.

Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic will be working with the Top 3 finalists to write an original song.  The winner of The Voice will premiere that song on the live finale December 17.

The Top 8 sing “Apologize” by OneRepublic. Once again, the vocal blend is kinda sketchy. There is a nice moment or two. Jacquie, Will for instance.  The song morphs into “All the Right Moves” and the song deteriorates.  James, Matthew and Cole are HORRIBLE. So off pitch. Tessanne comes in to save the day.

Two more artists SAVED BY AMERICA ARE Tessanne Chin! That WAS a bit of a surprise. James Wolpert is also safe. Carson asks the coaches to plea on behalf of their contestants. Adam remains unscathed, once again.

Ray Boudreaux, Matthew Schuler and Caroline Pennell are in the bottom 3.

TIME TO TWITTER SAVE #Voice Save *insert first name*

Adam believes America will twitter save Matthew.

America INSTANTLY SAVED MATTHEW SCHULER! YAY.

Ray Boudreaux and Caroline Pennell have been eliminated.
