Thursday Ratings: X Factor Rises, Glee Dives

Good news: X Factor is up from last week. The bad news: Glee is down in double digits.  The musical comedy will likely be renewed for a 5th season, due to syndication  and a loyal teen audience. But I remember the days when the show was pulling in 4-5 ratings and 11 million viewers. It’s fallen hard.

On FOX, The X Factor earned a 2.4, up 4% from last week’s 2.3  adults 18-49 rating. Glee notched a 2.1, down 13% from  last week’s 2.4 rating.

Damn, BBT rantings are massive! I think it will become the number one show next year.

  • jlscott13

I still love Glee. I actually thought last night was pretty good. Viewers can be quite fickle sometimes.

  • Whatiswrongwithus

Ugh….I don’t think it’s good news that X factor rose a little. It may just make Mr smirky Cowell think he is doing something right, when in fact he is doing the opposite.

I never thought I’d say this but I am actually hoping this season will plummet so bad in ratings it will slap Simon in the face and he’ll run back to the UK with his tail between his arse. Oh, and then i’d like to see him BEG Cheryl cole to return to XF UK.

  • tripp_ncwy

Xfactor getting killed by The Voice in the demo & total viewers. What is the next trick Simon has up his sleeve?

  • hcpoirot

One thing for sure, when the rating slipping down hard like Glee, it will be tough to climb up to the previous glory no matter if you change the actors, better the script etc etc.

Main point is: when a show is at the top of the game, they need to make sure each episodes are as good as the previous. Otherwise when the viewers become bored and leave that show, it hard to gain the viewers back.

I just love Glee so much!  Old people are allowed their guilty pleasures.  Glee and Smash are mine.

Whatiswrongwithus, please know you are not alone in your feelings about Simon and the X-Factor.  I am enjoying Tate and maybe one ot two others.  I just cannot take Simon.  I laughed when I read your post!

Prediction, if Glee will be renewed, then Season 5 will be the last season and the last episode will be a double wedding… Finchel and Brittana….I think  Kurt and Blaine will still have a good future…in work and love… but not with each other..

  • BigNLiddle

    I actually love Simon x)

Glad XF gained viewers, but they still need to get more in order to be considered “okay”…lol

  • fantoo1

X factor wasn’t running against the Voice like it was last week.

I don’t think shows need to run 5 years anymore in order to get syndicated.

  • Axxxel

I think Glee was also Ryan Murphy’s guilty pleasure that will only be appreciated 20 years later… when today’s Glee fan base will be in the driver’s seat in entertainmant companies and all of a sudden suggests to TV networks (if it still exists) to remake Tv Musicals agai.n

  • mjsbigblog

The more episodes to syndicate, the more money there is to be made.

FOX is having a weak year overall.  There are scripted shows with lower ratings on FOX than Glee.

  • Nicole Overstreet

No matter what I still love Glee. I am personally liking this season more than last season. Six episodes have aired so far this season compared to last year I wasn’t a fan of most of the episodes. I only really liked episodes one and six which were The Purple Piano Project and Mash Up. I personally think the school play episode was so much better this season than last season. I think Glee will most likely be renewed for a 5th season but it will most likely be the last as much as I hate to say it. I personally think switching to Thursday was such a horrible decision. But as you think of it Fox shows really do that well compared to these other tv stations. But we’ll just have to wait and see what happens.

I don’t think that Simon, Fox, or the other producers should worry about trying to beat the Voice or do better than AI’s ratings.  For the most part the ratings are stable, they’ve been around the same area since the live shows started, so they need to try and make the show better, and build on that stability.

Right now the show looks like a singing version of America’s Got Talent, and they won’t be able to attract more viewers until that image changes.

  • RockiDreams

Glee sucked last night.  The newbies are not all that great and definitely nothing there I would download and listen to.  Disappointing season so far that is for sure.

  • WestiesRule

Glee is on a bad night. It’s better on Tues. I watch Grey’s and Glee On Demand.

  • Kitwana

Glee sucks. The first Season had good stories, character development and good musical numbers. Now the whole shows seems to be focused on jamming in as many of those stupid musical numbers as possible and making marginally talented Darren Criss happen. Everything else seems secondary. Total fail. Glee totally deserves the ratings it’s getting. Just a year ago, “A” list celebrities were campaigning hard for a Glee guest spot. Don’t see that happening with a show with just 5 million viewers. Hope Fox puts Glee out of its misery and cancels the show.
