Billboard – Chart Date 11/24/12

Kirsten is away today. I can’t put together a thorough Billboard chart this week, but I can post a few articles that are food for thought.

First there is an article from Billboard charting the unlikely rise of Phillip Phillip’s “Home” to the top of the Triple A Format. Via Billboard.

“Oh, I was totally nervous about adding Phillip Phillips,” KGSR Austin, Texas, assistant PD/music director/midday talent Kristen Kurtis admits. “I was worried about the stigma that comes with ‘American Idol.’ After we got requests, we decided to add (‘Home’) – but instructed our jocks to not mention ‘Idol.’

“To my surprise, we haven’t received one negative message,” Kurtis says. “A woman even called me to say that she was grateful to hear it on KGSR because it fits so well with our sound.

“Foot, meet mouth,” she jokes.

HA!

BRINGING IT ‘HOME’: There is no place like “Home” on the Billboard charts, especially when “Home” is a song by American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips. The coronation song has conquered its fifth chart, moving to No. 1 on the Triple A (Adult Album Alternative) survey. The single’s sweep began the week of June 9, when it topped the Rock Digital Songs tally. That means it has taken five months and two weeks for Phillips to run up his total of five No. 1s. How does that compare to the six other Idol winners who have five No. 1s or more? Let’s find out.

Hopefully Phillip has opened the door to other Idol artists on Triple A.
