Ratings are in from TVByTheNumbers

On ABC, Duets was flat with last week’s series-low 1.0 rating . Wipeout earned a 1.7 adults 18-49 rating, down three tenths from last week’s 2.0 premiere rating. Rookie Blue garnered a 1.3 rating, up two tenths from last week’s season-low 1.1 adults 18-49 rating.

On FOX, Take Me Out earned a series-high 1.3, up three tenths from last week’s 1.0 adults 18-49 rating. The Choice scored a 1.6, up four tenths from last week’s 1.2 among adults 18-49.

That horrible FOX dating show, Take Me Out is beating Duets handily. Also beating the ABC competition reality show featuring Kelly Clarkson? A repeat of The Big Bang Theory. Ouch.

Duets has to be the worst show on TV. It’s just so many shades of bad I don’t know where to start. Even my mother who is a singing competition show watcher thinks it’s bad and doesn’t watch. She called me last night and told me to put on Take Me Out the dating show. I watched it and thought it was way more entertaining. None of the “stars” including Kelly have the personality to pull off the show. Kelly is a good singer but she should stick to the studio. The whole premise of the show is bad. Because the judges sing with the contestants if takes the highlight off the contestants. But most importantly not one of the judges/mentors are right for this type of show.

I disagree with everything you wrote, except for this:

“Because the judges sing with the contestants if takes the highlight off the contestants.”

I think that this is a major problem with the show. I’m enjoying the show though, largely because I like these singing competition shows and I’m a fan of Kelly’s, but I’ve also enjoyed performances from John, Jennifer and Robin and a few of the contestants.

As for the poor ratings, I think that it’s because of the duets format (where it’s hard for the contestants to shine), plus the fact that the voting system of the coaches is pretty sketchy. lol

Odd you should say that, because I find I look forward to the show every week.  I don’t pay much attention to the contest aspects, I’m just in it for the music.  I will grant it is sort of an excuse for a music show because of the constant singing of the judges, but the judges represent some variety for me.  Nah, it ain’t a big show, but I sure wish Idol would do a retro night like last night; I thought it unusual and particularly fun, an island in a summer sea full of silly sharks.

I frankly couldn’t sit through The Choice at all and I tried.

For me, besides a few songs, it’s the same golden oldies we’ve heard butchered for years on Idol. ABC should have cleared more current songs.

I watched the first few episodes and really didn’t like anything about the show, except when John Legend sings. I love Kelly also, but she is annoying on this show. It seems the contestants cannot measure up to the mentors.

I started watching Take Me Out and The Choice on Fox. Yes, these are lame dating shows, but they are so entertaining.

They need more gimmicks, feuds, unfair eliminations. People watch TV for entertainment. This show is utterly boring.

I have to agree. I watched the first episode and it really didn’t connect with me. I am a huge Kelly Clarkson fan and voted for her in Season 1 of Idol. But this competition feels cold. While I would be shocked if ABC dumped the show before the finale, I don’t see if coming back for a second season.

I LOVED the show, especially last night’s!  FANTASTIC!  As for the contestants, the guys are my favorites ~ maybe because they’re paired with my favorite girls as mentors!!!

I “liked” this by mistake, but totally disagree!  Last night’s show was FANTASTIC!

I really like this show. I like to see a live show on during the summer as it is usually just repeats.

The only good thing if is it disappears a quiet death, it won’t do too much damage to Kelly- most people will forget about it in a month or so and it will be like it never happened.

”it won’t do too much damage to Kelly”
Whether it’s just one season or several, it won’t do damage to any of the mentors/stars. It’s free weekly publicity plus a paycheck. Exposure on broadcast TV reaches far more people than a normal concert tour.

I like the show. It’s not must see tv, but broadcast tv offers very little of what I would schedule my life around, most of these numbers look sad to me! This isnt gonna hurt Kelly anymore than the failure of Smash to smash will hurt Kat! In fact the failure isn’t the stars or contestants. It’s the dumbass format. Doesn’t allow viewers to be connected until it’s too late. That is the key to shows of this genre.

I’m sorry. I am not a fan….I just watched the First episode out of curiosity…I’m not impressed at all.. sorry… I have a good feeling this show will be cancelled or ABC…. will just replace it with another show.(hopefully)

couldn’t agree with you more… in addition they should add real “mentors” or singers….

lol, and I’m not being ironic. I really like music and I’m an amateur musician. I watch these shows just when I really like someone or when it’s funny somehow. If I would search for “real and pure music” it wouldn’t be on TV.
