Congratulations are definitely in order for Carrie Underwood.   According to Ken Barnes at Idol Chatter  Carrie  Underwood’s  CD, “Some Hearts” has been officially certified by the RIAA  for 5 million units shipped.   To date, the wildly successful CD has sold 4.69 million units total.

Also, according to Idol Chatter, from a BMG release:

Some Hearts has now become the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo female in the new millennium.

“Some Hearts is also the best-selling, single-disc country album by a solo artist (male or female) in the last six years – since Tim McGrawà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢s Greatest Hits, released in November of 2000. ”

“And with January 10 SoundScan information, Some Hearts earns the further distinction of becoming the best-selling, single-disc country album by any artist (solo, male, female, group, duo, etc.) since the Dixie Chicksà ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã¢â€ž ¢ Home, released in August of 2002.”

Impressive!

Anyone remember Simon’s remarks after Carrie’s (incredible) performance of “Alone” (with over 10 weeks in the competition to go)?

“Carrie, you’re not just the girl to beat, you’re the person to beat. I will make a prediction: not only will you win this show, you will sell more records than any other previous ‘Idol’ winner.”

  • hicksmayer

I remember that remark very well. Simon was right on the money.
Carrie’s album is amazing, I bought it a year ago when it was released and is one of the albums I enjoy the most. She is amazing, and I am pretty sure she will become the next Faith Hill if she is not already. Heh.

Carrie also is such a sweet girl, I am so happy for her success. She deserves it. She is beautiful talented and has one of the best voices ever on idol.IMO.

  • hicksmayer

By the way here is Carrie’s Alone Performance when Simon predicts she will be the highest idol debut ever! Boy was he right!

I think its due in part, in large part, because she’s country. Almost anyone is accepted in the world of country music, especially today. (I go by a general rule regardng country music: if it was released after 2000, chances are I don’t like it. This doesn’t apply to everything that’s been released, there are exceptions.) I don’t know how much control Carrie had over the album, but really I don’t think it’s Carrie Underwood so much as it is the team of producers and such that are behind her. I don’t really care for her, I think she has no personality or orginality. But that’s just my opinion. :)

What excatly did you mean by that?

    DaniCalifornia,
although I appreciate your opinion it might be wise to get your facts straight before making them. First off Carrie has acknowledged all the people that have helped her with this album but point is that Carrie is much loved and is a fantastic vocalist and this album is solid.

As far as you saying that Carrie sold 5 million copies because Country will accept anyone there my friend is where you are really off base. Carrie obviously has cross over appeal these albums where bought by all genre listeners, do you have any idea how hard it is for Woman to make it in country music? It’s along the same lines as a woman becoming President, Carrie has broken into the boys club and will be a force to be reckoned with. I have to wonder who you favorite it, and I think I can guess by your last comment.

  • DaniCalifornia

babarocks, the fact remains that a whole team of producers made that album, and no one ever gets credit except for the vocalist. I don’t think that anything you said were “facts” either. And I don’t think its hard for a woman at all to break into country music! If anything, I think that someone, especially a woman, has a better chance in country than they do any other genre. (In fact I actually want to hear Kat sing a country song, I think she’d be amazing at it, and 100% accepted, but that’s a tangent.) Saying that its hard as a woman becoming president? Come on, that is totally off base. There are TONS of women country singers. I think that Kellie Pickler was signed in large part because she’s country. If she was pop, I don’t think anyone would have signed her. My favorite? My favorite is Taylor, however I like almost all the idols, and I’m not sure which comment you are refering to. I don’t care much for Carrie, or her album, that’s the truth, and I didn’t try to conceal that.

  • hicksmayer

Well, I respect your opinion, but this is a thread to congratulate Carrie. If you don’t like her then don’t post anything. Just saying.

She deserves all the success! She is amazing, and yes I am also a Taylor fan, but a Carrie fan as well.

I have to agree with this. While I’m not a fan of country music in general, I really love “Some Hearts” because of the crossover material. It’s the only country CD that I have. I probably would not like it if she puts out a “countrier” album.

Anyway, congrats to Carrie! I hope her sophomore album is not a disappointment. But I wouldn’t worry about that right now, “Some Hearts” is still hot!

    DaniCalifornia,
I am not trying to be disrespectful, However please research the facts on women in country music before you tell me that I don’t have the facts. It is a well known fact that Country has been a Male dominated genre since it’s beginnings and though women have made alot of headway in the process, it is still remains such. Look at the top 10 selling acts in the past years and anyone can see that. Carrie was the only female to be in the top 10 last year and if you look back you will see it is a pattern. Women have a very difficult time in Country. I have followed country for many years and Carrie is a phenomonen in the genre. I believe Kellie was signed because they knew that her exposure on Idol would add up to some money Plain and simple. Kellie will never have the success of Carrie in the music side of things however She is going to be very successful in TV. Her personality is her strong point, not her vocals.

How many female presidents does America have anyway? I thought 0. Pretty sure the female country stars in the same country is more than you can count with both hands.

As far as music genres go, country IS huge, that’s a fact. Given the exposure of AI, I think anyone who can establish him/herself into a certain mainstream genre (country, pop, pop/rock/) and do well at it, will certainly thrive in the real industry as well. At least for a bunch of years.

Having said that, Carrie Underwood IS one hell of a vocalist, but I do think she’s a bit robotic. Some of her moves don’t really make sense, even in the above video I just saw where I thought she did awesome. A very awkward jump/dance in the middle that seemed a bit “off”.

  • sallykyy

Congrats Carrie! Love your vocals and personality.

MJ is there a reason my vids aren’t showing up?
    Thanks
