So You Think You Can Dance 9 – Top 6 – Recap, Results Videos

Recapping So You Think You Can Dance tonight! The judges are no longer in charge. Your votes last week count! But no voting this week.  And no results next week when the Top 4 perform. the SYTYCD winners will be announced on the September 18 final.

Christina Applegate is the guest judge

Witney Carson and Cole Horibe are eliminated

The judges tried as hard as they could to prop Witney up and keep her in it, but the audience just never really warmed up to her. They probably would have saved her AGAIN if it were possible.  Having said that–Witney was a talented dancer, but the remaining two are even better.  Eliana or Tiffany would be a worthy winner.

Poor Cole. When he wound up standing next to Cyrus, he knew he was toast.  Cyrus was the least talented dancer of the remaining 3 guys, but he connects to the audience. Personally, I would have been fine with him leaving the competition. I’m still waiting to find out about the dance training he’s had in the past…

Group number Choreographed by Sonya Tayeh

Tiffany and Benji – Jive – Choreography by Jean-Marc – “What I Like About You” by Lilex – Benji returns to the show for the first time in 7 years!  Benji pulls a million faces doesn’t he? The jive is so much fun. Especially this one. Standing ovation! Nigel says the energy just lifted the entire audience. Nigel calls Benji the best swing dancer ever on the show. Tiffany stepped up to the plate. “Amazing you guys!” says Mary. “Wow you did keep up with Benji!” Christina says, “It was a performance of people doing the Jive, beautifully and perfectly.”

Whitney Solo – Brian Setzer Orchestra – Whitney performs a Latin solo.

Cole and Melanie – Contemporary by Sonya Tayeh –  “Too Close” – Sonya wants to show a softer side of Cole this week.  Cole wants to break free. Melanie is the clingy girlfriend. This was really different for Cole. He appeared more human and vulnerable tonight. Sonya’s chroeo is supurb as always.  Mary thought it was a gorgeous piece. Cole drew her in. Christina calls him masterful. He has the ability to embody his character, she says. His feet were kind of bad, but it didn’t matter. Nigel likes that Sonya breaks the gender rules. And is thrilled to have Cole and his unique style.

Chehon Solo – “Way Back Home” – District 78

Eliana and Twitch – Hip Hop by Christopher Soctt – “Please Mr. Postman” by Marvelletes (District 78 remix)  – The letter carrier and the hip hop hottie! Ha. Eliana can pretty much do anything, can’t she? She’s totally holding her own.  Christina says shes so wonderful to watch, that it doesn’t matter that she’s not a hip hop dancer. Nigel repeats that she’s her favorite girl. Nigel felt the routine relied on the comedy and the character. He wants to see her dance more. Mary thought it was fun and entertaining. But the routine may not be powerful enough for her–but she’s memorable.

A So You Think You Can Dance Experience will take play in Las Vegas featuring a bunch of choreographers and dancers. September 21-23. Go to Fox.Com/Dance for more details

Tiffany Solo – “Just The Way You Are” by Carmen Reece

Chehon and Kathryn – Contemporary by Tyce DiOrio – “Eli Eli” –  Tyce gets deep. The dance is about losing everything, but still carrying on. It was a little awkward when Kathryn stood on Chehon’s back? The choreo is a little strange, but Chehon– a superb, emotional dancer– performs it beautifully. Nigel was really moved by the piece. Loved it both emotionally and technically. He thanks FOX for allowing them to be emotional? Ok. Mary is close to tears. Chehon is still moved. “You just oozed with passion and power.”  Christina loves his contemporary. “Watching you grow on this show…you are beautiful.” Christina also close to tears. “Unbelievable.”

Cole’s Solo – “Night of the Wolf” – Aaand Cole is back to being creepy! Heh.

Witney and Marko – Lyrical Jazz by Ray Leeper –  “No Nothing” – Witney has second thoughts at the alter! Whoa. Marko has NO HAIR. He was my fav boy his season.  Witney continues to prove she’s more than a ballroom dancer. Mary says Witney is a star.  Marko was a great partner. “Really beautiful, really lovely,” says Christina, “Maybe too much hairography.” Nigel says it’s very easy to save Witney. He appreciated her commitment to the dance.

Eliana’s Solo – “Ill Follow You Into the Dark”

Cyrus and Comfort – Dub Step by Christopher Scott “Cinema” – Lucky Cyrus dances close to his style this week. He’s fantastic. Standing ovation from the judges! Christina loved the choreo.  “That was carved out for you.” she says to Cyrus, “I think you’re so fantastic.” Nigel says, “Just incredible to watch…We know how good you are. You’ve never been in the bottom 2!” America loves him! “We love you, because you connect with us,” says Mary.

Chehon and Witney –  Cha Cha – Jean Marc – “Where Have You Been” by Rihanna – I can’t take my eyes off of Witney. But the ballet boy is having trouble with the cha cha.  Mary thought it was a big improvement from the samba, but Latin dancing is NOT his thing.  Mary calls her Lindsay. Oops. She felt bad that Witney couldn’t go full tilt. Christina was so mesmerized, she forgot everything. Nigel lamented that the lift fell apart. He is disappointed.

Cyrus’s Solo – “Harem” by Sarah Brightman

Cole and Eliana – Contemporary by Mia Michaels – “Adagio for Strings” – The piece is about hatred. She was inspired by how rams fight. It’s very physical. Standing ovation from the judges. Nigel thinks he was the inspiration for Mia! He calls Cole brilliant and is glad Eliana is dancing. Incredible. “Absolutely mesmerizing” says Mary. She loved the way they used the stage. “There’s light coming out of your feet,” Christina says to Eliana. “Remarkable. I’m so happy for both of you.”

Cyrus and  Tiffany – Broadway by Spencer Liff – “Treat Me Rough” from Girl Crazy – Cyrus is charming and holds his own enough to be convincing. He’s got such a great personality, he’s fun to watch in Broadway numbers. Christina loved it. Choreography is splendid and sassy. Cyrus has accomplished incredible things, says Christina. He loves Tiffany because she’s like the girl next door. “That was the cutest number ever!” says Mary.
